i agree with Q, i find the cops super easy to lose in gta V, at least at the lower star levels. i find that its also easier to get stars than in past games. what i usually do is just run around a corner and enter sneak mode while standing behind something. dont move as they can hear you. this is how i keep robbing armored trucks. i wait til the guy goes to put the money in the back of the truck and when he opens the door i shoot him. then i kill the driver when he comes around. pick up money and run to a back alley and just wait it out. easy 7k or so

Helis get a bit more complicated though, which is nice
and yes, police helis in the windfarm is as fun as advertised

yeah it does seem like it's easier to get stars. i think killing a cop instantly gives you 3 stars.
Escaping the helicopters is a bit more tricky but it's like the police cars: if you drive fast enough you can lose them. the problem is that they can spot you in alleys, so you need to go to a parking garage

The best way I discovered to lose heat is to go into hiding, in the Franklin & Lamar shoot up the Ballas mission, I ended up getting out of the car and just chilling outside Los Santos. Eventually the police go away. I need more practice with that.

I am yet to try 4 or 5 star cop chase but I feel cops are stupider than ever before. Only reason they're dangerous is because 2 or 3 gun shots can kill you. Otherwise they're pretty easy to dodge. Cop cars are slow, weak, predictable, sucks at reading routes, few in numbers. Only frustrating part for me has been it takes longer to kill the heat completely in hide.
Mon Sep 23, 2013 9:01 pm
At the core, sure, they're still easy to dodge. But you can't seriously think they're dumber than in previous games. They were able to wedge me either in between their own cars or against walls on numerous occasions.
If you want a challenge, hop over the gate of Fort Zancudo, hop back over again and try to escape them on the freeway (with a shitty car for even a bigger a challenge). And that's only 4 stars.

You guys are boring. Bring the cops the fucking pain. Use your special abilities. Get armor and bullet proof tires for the cars. It's gta. Fucking hiding.

I'd much rather pay my bail and give them my insurance information, thank you.

Don't you lose your weapons when you get arrested?

My copy arrived today, which was a pleasant surprise. Given that it was coming from the UK, I thought it might be another week or so, but here it is. Anyway, some thoughts after my first few hours with the game:
- I probably should've played a bit of GTA IV as well as San Andreas in the lead up to getting this, as I'm out of practice with the more realistic physics of the current generation. The PS2 era games were, shall we say, a lot more forgiving when it comes to wild driving. I'm getting a handle on it again, though.
- The playable intro was a good idea to introduce some of the new controls and concepts. Better than some of the mundane/overly easy missions of earlier games.
- The Quick Save/Retry Mission options are fantastic, addressing one of the biggest drawbacks in GTA games so far. I'd say that the retry checkpoints are reasonably fair, at least so far.
- I made the first mission way longer than it needed to be as I tried to outrun the cops instead of being evasive and finding a place to hide. Once I started employing that strategy instead of just racing up the highway, it all clicked.
- Lot of fun so far. The staging, the storytelling, the cinematography, the world...it's amazing and very well done. But since you've been playing the game longer than I have, you already know that.
- I've mostly been playing through the storyline missions so far, though taking the scenic route a couple of times (including that first police chase that went longer and further than it should have done) has allowed me to unintentionally explore a bit. At some point, I'll take a break and just have a wander.

Only ammo I think.
But at some point you just wanna get on with your missions and don't fuck around with the police for hours.

Finished the main story line, man this game is awesome. I totally loved it.

For some reason, I don't want to finish it. Gta iv seemed so long that I just started doing story missions to get it over with. I'm nearly half done and don't even have the entire map uncovered. I barely have any money to buy properties. I almost feel like starting over since I screwed up with the stock trading.
Tue Sep 24, 2013 7:45 am
Well... I'm not that far into the game like you guys but barely have 24% at the moment. One thing I'm bothered so far into the game is that I mostly got BRONZE on missions, and some SILVERs and no gold. Am I just bad at this game? How about yous, folks.
Tue Sep 24, 2013 7:55 am
no need to spoiler that NovU, I get a lot of silver and bronzes because idgaf usually, so I die a lot, or will flag down a taxi which voids mission time.
I'm the opposite of you Pat, I want to race to the finish so I can fuck with the stocks more and feel more restrained by the money, and do the diversions.
Tue Sep 24, 2013 8:20 am
I would just finish the game and worry those kinda stuff later. Because we got ONLINE to worry about pretty soon. I want our crew to dominate the server quickly b4 noobs show up.

Most of the objectives that give you a gold medal I have no idea about. But there is the replay mission for that since you might not know it was an objective until the mission ends.

I didn't buy anything because I'm cheap, am looking forward to playing again with the knowledge I have now. I vary on the missions, mostly silver with some bronze and gold thrown in there.
I never finished GTA 4, I hated Niko.
Btw:
According to Rockstar support, players should avoid using the game's garages as they look into fixing a bug that causes cars and car-upgrades to mysteriously vanish.

yes, I had a character-specific customized Infernus for all three of them that have all disappeared because of that. Ah well. I started pimping their "normal" rides anyway.
Tue Sep 24, 2013 10:57 am
one thing i have been doing (not sure if its been mentioned or not) is putting all my cash into ammunation stock. since the price of dying goes up based on how much money you have its best to just throw it all into stocks and ammunation never seems to go down
finally unlocked trevor. very cool intro for him. was the guy we killed the same guy from the lost and the damned? after i killed him i ran over the girl too for good measure. the first heist was so much fun. i hired packie as my gun man even though i didnt need one that good. he is packie so i wanted to help him out.

Definitely loving the retry mission/checkpoint feature after a couple more bungled attempts last night. The need to drive back to the trigger point, drive somewhere else to get to the heart of the mission and re-attempt a lengthy sequence is what often led to me putting GTA games down for a while in years gone by. Such an improvement, one that allows the game and story to flow much better.
Tue Sep 24, 2013 11:14 am
agreed. that one feature alone makes this game better. the cops are also far better and more realistic. man they are brutal in this game. really the one and only complaint i have about this game is the lack of vigilante missions. i understand that they felt they didnt fit in to the game but i still liked them. the game also almost feels too short. i feel like i am progressing too fast and i am doing so much side shit its not funny. well by short i mean, as long as GTA 4. i wanted an even longer game but it seems they want online to be the place to go. well they win this time cause come october first i will be online wishing i had a mouse for easier aiming. man i cant wait til we all get to do heists online together

Absolutely. I'm getting a bit better at shaking them and finding a place to hide but as noted before, you've definitely got your work cut out for you when helicopters get involved.
Also, there's
speculation of microtransactions being in the game.
