I think the ending will pretty much stay the same. He will still go to Argentina after killing Saxon. But then why did we need another episode? BTW, how dumb was it of Dexter to let go of Saxon? Saxon knows everything about Dexter, even knows about Hannah. Dexter decided to let him go without thinking that Saxon might tell anything to the cops?
And Elway has no life, apparently. He is the head of his company but spends his time running around airports. And why is he so in desperate need of that reward money? And in which basis did the US Marshal issue a warrant on Deb's house? Talking about laptops, apparently nobody password-protects them anymore.
The side story this season "Masuka & his daughter" was probably the worst ever in Dexter history.

It was nice that they brought back Sylvia Prado in a way that made sense. It was weird how she suddenly stopped being Rita's friend after Miguel died. (Probably more to do with the actress having other work than the writers forgetting about the character though)
It's just a shame that the writers were too lazy to check if she had kids or not.. She mentioned to Dexter that 'she and the kids' downsized their home after Miguel died, but they didn't have kids in season 3.

I like the suicide option because with this revenge killing of Saxon, he will be no better than the people he has killed. he fits the type of person he kills. he must be the one to put himself down. i like it. i hope it happens.

Maybe Dexter & Miguel adopted some kids secretly. They certainly did have a thing going on.
I also like
Sauru's ending. But Dexter doesn't kill innocents. So how can he fit the code?

Why the last minute? Why?
I was actually okay with him dying.
Also gotta love Masuka's daughter being the most useless TV character of all time, if it weren't for tits.

Supposedly it was
to show that he is no longer killing. "Anything that was a part of his life that gave it meaning is gone. He’s banished himself as far away from Miami and anyone he’s loved."I was actually okay with him dying.
I actually was hoping for it, got teased by the hurricane, and was ultimately let down just like i have by this whole season.

soooo what you're saying is since she has tits, she's not the most useless character of all time?
I don't like that
Deb died. Dexter finally learned that he's fucked up, but she was "his last kill" as he pulled the plug, but it's a bit unrealistic (like a lot of things this season) that he could pull all that shit off, steal the body, and dump it in the ocean with no one stopping him or seeing him.GOOD RIDDANCE. my time is too valuable to be wasted on junk like this. One week until Breaking Bad Finale!

I guess there was never going to be a happy ending on a show about a serial killer.

Not sure how I feel about Dexter going from 'I want to get out of here and start a new life with Hannah" to "I'll only ruin their lives too" in only a few hours. I suppose losing the person that meant the most to him made him realise the effect he has on people close to him in a major way. Although he's been dealing with that since season one.
I wonder how Astor and Cody will feel about Dexter and Deb being 'dead' and Harrison just vanishing into thin air.
Not really any closure with any of the other characters either. Maybe they can do a spin-off show with Batista, Quinn, Matthews and Masuka. Everyone else is gone. Dexter, Deb, Doakes, LaGuerta, Mike Anderson and Miller just disappeared half way through this season after she got promoted.
Ironically, I think Dexter screwed up Batista with his exit strategy. Angel had already lost LaGuerta the year before and then Deb. Then he sees Dexter kill Saxon and the look on his face was just horror. I half expected him to come out and say that he knew it was murder and conclude that LaGuerta was right about Dexter all along. But in the end Dexter's 'death' just added another emotional catastrophe for Batista to deal with. I'm sure he wouldn't be the positive-thinking, happy guy he once was after all of that happened. I assume Quinn would be back drinking and dating strippers again as well.
I'm not really familiar with regions in America, but is it possible that Dexter moved to Portland? I remember him mentioning a few seasons ago that he'd always wanted to go there and Harry mocked him, because it was cliche "A serial killer in Portland?"
The irony of Deb's death is that if she hadn't put Elway onto Hannah, the marshal wouldn't have been following her and wouldn't have released Saxon. Or you know, Dexter could have just killed Saxon and left for Argentina and everyone lives happily ever after. But again, this show was never a sitcom.

Very disappointed with the ending obviously. Elway ended up being a pointless annoyance, Masuka's daughter was an utterly useless side story, Dexter killing Saxton that way and barely being questioned about it was plain ridiculous, and him taking Deb out of of the hospital like that without being detected made no sense.I don't really know what ending I would have liked to see, but this was certainly not satisfying in any way.
Tue Sep 24, 2013 3:13 pm
It was pretty selfish of Dexter to just dump Deb's body into the ocean. I mean, didn't she deserve a proper burial with full honours? She was a good cop and she died in the line of duty. Plus everyone at the station will just be plain wondering where she disappeared to.
Maybe the writers allowed for a movie in 10 years or something by leaving all those loose ends. Or maybe they just suck.
Tue Sep 24, 2013 3:19 pm
I don't think there was or could really be a satisfying ending to such a story.
As for the cops just letting Dexter get away with that murder and barely questioning him, it pretty much sums up everything about that department while he was working there, anyways. If they were to wise up to Dexter like LaGuerta or Doakes, the hurricane would have probably swept in and killed them or something.
I think the worst part about the ending is that they really didn't close the story arcs of many of the characters. Although, on that note they did close Masuka's story line with finding a daughter. I think they would have done better finding him a wife, but whatever.
I wonder if the writers wanted us to hate the ending.

There could have been many satisfying endings.
They could have ended with the last episode with Dexter moving to Argentina after killing Saxon. Or to my personal liking, maybe Dexter would realize that he can't stop the urge to kill and stay in Miami. And keep on cleaning trash. That's what I call a happy ending.
There have been many unrealistic things about this show. But to end it with so many "glitches" was unfair. Anyway, seasons 1, 2, 5 & 7 were awesome and that's what I will remember this show by.

In my television experience, there's never been a show that's been so so good, and so so bad. Season 1 and Season 4 were two of the best seasons of television I've ever watched. I even really enjoyed the Bay Harbor Butcher piece. After Trinity, though, the entire show became almost unwatchable, despite me continuing to watch it, begrudgingly. I would've been so much more satisfied had the entire series ended after the Trinity season.

exactly my thoughts. should have ended it there.

It's really crazy/unfortunate how much trying to squeeze extra revenue out of something can really damage it. If it ends right there it probably goes down as one of the most revered series in tv memory (similar to the way Breaking Bad is currently, after their finale last night). Instead, you draw out several more seasons that are just rubbish on top of more garbage, and it takes away from the masterpiece that was the early half of the entire series. You have to consciously differentiate between pre and post-season 5, and even still the final product overall quality gets lessened so much that I'd probably not recommend anyone even watch it if they haven't, because they'll want to keep going after Trinity and they're just in for hours and hours of boring, nonsense disappointment. Really a shame.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-tele ... SKBN26Z331Dexter, one of America’s best known TV serial killers, is on his way back.
Cable network Showtime said on Wednesday it had given the go-ahead to a 10-episode revival of “Dexter,” with star Michael C. Hall once again playing blood spatter specialist Dexter Morgan who works with the Miami police department and moonlights as a vigilante killer.
“We would only revisit this unique character if we could find a creative take that was truly worthy of the brilliant, original series. Well, I am happy to report that (executive producer) Clyde Phillips and Michael C. Hall have found it,” Gary Levine, president of entertainment at Showtime said in a statement.
I'm interested to see what story they have come up with. Will they bring back old characters or will they just put Dexter in a completely new setting?
I think it's good news that they have Clyde Phillips back as showrunner (aka the guy who was in charge for the first 4 seasons). It's no coincidence that the quality dropped massively after he left.

I think they can't really retcon the original so they'll have to pick up from there and fix it. I'm not too excited because everything after like season 6 was terrible and a waste of time

The show was good till a terrible last season
So they shouldnt.

Dexter stopped after the Trinity season. I don't know what you're talking about.

Anyone watching the continuation of Dexter? I'm waiting till all the episodes have aired so I can watch it in one go.
Wed Jan 05, 2022 1:16 am
I've watched them all so far, and while there are certainly some great old-school Dexter moments I feel like the writing is very uneven, at times uninspired. The concept is far from uninteresting and there's plenty of tension to go around, but a lot of the dialogs and character reactions make zero sense and just feel like cheap placeholders to end up where the showrunners are trying to get to.
Entertaining and with plenty of nostalgic fun, but very flawed in my view, similar to the last couple of seasons (at least) of the original show.

Loved the show, hated how it turned to crap so I don't know if I can watch this. I'd miss the old characters too much to watch

There was so much potential for an interesting ending after those first nine episodes, but what we got was so sloppy and rushed and full of loose ends. None of what happened made any sense. I remember being sad after the original finale, but this one just pissed me off.
