Game one vs New Jersey

Postby Donatello on Tue Jul 13, 2004 2:17 am

Image
It's a new Raptor season with a whole new Fantasy Draft Roster! Things started (very) slow in game one...with Toronto's nucleus of Kobe Bryant, Wally Szczerbiak, and 3 promising rookies (Josh Carr at PG, Hampton Terry at Center, and Mike Naeseth at PF) not being able to match up with the incredible Nets backcourt of All-Star Tracy McGrady and up-and-coming rookie phenom Dwyane Wade.... Here's the recap.

NEW JERSEY NETS 0-0 @ TORONTO RAPTORS 0-0

Toronto suffered a near-embarrassing defeat at home to start the season 0-1.

Toronto Player stats: http://www.nbalpl.com/dynasty/nets1.txt

Image
Wally slams it home for the first points of the game...but it was all downhill from there for the Raptors....
Image
An embarrassing first quarter deficit....
Image
And one!
Image
Rejected!
Image
T-Mac was unstoppable....
Image
So was Dwyane Wade, making his first NBA appearance.
Image
Toronto just couldn't close the gap....
Image
Dwyane Wade gets lazy on defense, and the Raptors start a run....
Image
But T-Mac takes over, proclaiming- "That's enough!"...Shot of the game.
Image
The Raptors just couldn't mount a comeback.

Player of the game: Tracy McGrady (Nets)

"Not a good start to the season....we are a very young team with 3 rookies starting, we might have to trade away some of that potential for some immediate Veteran help."

Next Game: Washington Wizards @ your Toronto Raptors! See you there!

For six minute quarters the score is pretty high ... What game speed do you play?

Other than that I was never really a fan of the fantasy draft, but if its fun for you. Besides Kobe you dont seem to have significant players, Wally Szczerbiak beeing the only one. Ebi is a good choice, I have him in my dynasty also now and he is a really good defender. You should probably give him more minutes.

Ahm ... who are J. Carr, M. Naeseth and H. Terry? Have you created them or have you simmed to the second year?

Well ... hopefully you have more luck in the Washington game.

yes, those three are created players. they're not superstar, they're all in the mid-60's. josh carr is me, by the way ;)

I play at a game speed of 60, and actually i'm used to higher scores than this. So I dunno. Maybe I'm just odd

yeah, i know i don't really have any go-to guys besides kobe and wally, but that's the way i wanted it, a bench of underdog role-players (i did all 12 rounds in the fantasy draft). i usually don't like fantasy draft either, but i've just gotten bored with the lack of cpu-initiated trades in dynasty, so i just decided to mix it up for this one. thanks for the comments (Y).

And I agree about giving Ebi more minutes, I like him too, great blocker....I had just never played with Kapono before so I was "trying him out".

Ah .. ok. Just never heard their names before, thats why I am asking. Well, if they are in the mid sixties, you should have good enough players.

Ah, that explains it. I play at the game speed of 42 and still get too high scores in 12 minute quarters. Seems, like you run and gun a lot. The lowest point total I got so far in my dynasty was a 80-78 win in the playoffs over the Knicks with 10 minute quarters. I like it more realistic, at least score wise.

I know that role player feeling. I am usually the same. Winning with a bunch of superstars is easy, but playing with some underdogs (like Ebi) and succeeding is a nice challenge.

And I have never tried Kapono either, so how is he?

I wasn't very impressed with Kapono....though I wasn't impressed with anyone on my team that game    I'll keep you updated on him though (obviously).

yeah, i don't really have the patience to play this game as an NBA sim, i wish i did though. i just really enjoy a fast-paced game.

Game Two vs Washington

Postby Donatello on Tue Jul 13, 2004 8:00 am

Image

Key Matchup:
PG Steve Nash (WAS) vs PG Joshua Carr (TOR)

ImageImage

These two pure point guards go head-to-head in this matchup....Nash is a proven warrior, one of the top point guards in the league. Josh Carr is only a rookie, but he has already showed flashes of brilliance in his passing and 3-point shooting skills. The comparisons between these two players are inevitable. It should be fun to watch....

Image
Jerry Stackhouse with the facial!
Image
The score at halftime was very low, and very close. Toronto looked to come out strong in the second half...
Image
This Carr 3-pointer from way out brought Toronto within 4 with just over 3 minutes left in the game...
Image
...But it wasn't enough, as the Wizards handed Toronto their second straight loss of the season.

 Individual team stats:
Toronto- http://www.nbalpl.com/dynasty/wizards1.txt

(All future game recaps will include full stats for both teams, as well as the main Game Stats, I regret their unavailability here).

 "Well....we showed that at least we can show up and work as a team. This game was close...obviously not close enough, however. We definitely have some chemistry issues to sort out. I don't really have any other comments tonight."

 TORONTO is now 0-2.....next game: Kobe and the Raptors face the Timberwolves at the Target Center...We'll be there court-side....stay tuned :!:

 Trade Rumors: It looks like rookie PF Mike Naeseth will be soon out of Toronto...don't count on him being moved before the Minnesota game, however...but a trade seems inevitable.

 Shortly after the end of the game, Toronto's offices announced that three trades have been agreed upon. The more significant trade of the three, will definitely be a great surprise for both Kobe Bryant and for Toronto...most everyone, even Kobe, was expecting the Raptors to trade for a dominant power forward to compliment Kobe....but the Raptors have outdone themselves. They have acquired YAO MING!!!

Image

 Here are the three trades in detail:

 The Raptors trade H. Terry, M. Naeseth, and W. Szczerbiak for Y. Ming and J. Collins (Collins was immediately waived)

 The Raptors trade J. Barry, D. Jones, and G. Rice for K. Clark

 The Raptors traded injury-prone Center D. Mutombo for J. Pryzbilla

 The Raptors then signed PF J. Beasley to a1-year minimum deal.

Image

[b]"We are very excited about these deals. We have a bit of a hole on our bench now in regards to guards, but our starting guys really play alot of minutes. We may look to pick up one more guard later in the season. We'll just have to see how that pans out. We are very excited to welcome Yao, Keon, Joel, and Jerome to Toronto!"

One more HUGE trade!

Postby Donatello on Wed Jul 14, 2004 2:15 am

 Toronto has done it again. Shortly after acquiring Yao Ming, they have pulled yet another deal. The Raptors have sent Keon Clark and Ndubi Ebi to San Antonio for Josh Childress.

 The Raptors have also signed Darvin Ham to a 1-year deal.

"We are fairly confident that this is the team we will take deep into the season, barring any huge trade propositions that may come our way. We are going to put Darko Milicic at our starting PF spot...hopefully he will come through for us."

::Raptors Dynasty Note::

From now on, I will still be playing all of my games, but due to a couple of different reasons, I won't be posting full recaps for every game. These reasons include: a lack of comments, a lack of personal time, my fear of exceeding my bandwidth from direct image linking, and the fact that I will be playing 5-6 games per day now that I have my nights free, and I don't really want to take the time for full recaps for every single game, among other things....BTW, I hate to beg, but I really do appreciate comments :D

Well, once again, Toronto has made some trades. But we are assured that these will be the final changes to the roster, unless anything comes up at the trade deadline.

 Toronto has traded J. Pryzbilla, J. Beasley, and J. Forte to the LA Lakers for Drew Gooden and rookie PF Badiane

"We are EXUBERANT with the addition of Drew to our lineup- he gives us a legitimate force at the PF position. We now know that we are ready to challenge for the playoffs, and for the championship."

 Toronto also traded Eddie House and Darvin Ham to the Nuggets for underachieving center Etan Thomas

"We do apoligize to the players we had to let go, but they all understood that this is a business--and we have to do what's best for this team. We thank all of them for their sportsmanship."

I think you need to stop making so many trades. If you keep making deals your team is going to be unstoppable and you going to start winning alot of games unless you dont play them. Stay realistic and dont make so many deals. Lets see some more games!

like i think i've said before to you, i don't play this game for an nba sim, i play it for fun. i do appreciate comments, but not negative ones, so just let me be on stuff like that. i'm not trying to be rude at all, but this is MY dynasty. thanks  and i've been doing 12 hour shifts on my EMT training, that's why i haven't gotten more games posted ;)

oh, and one more thing, was it really necessary for you to tell me i need to stop making trades, when i just said in the last post:

Well, once again, Toronto has made some trades. But we are assured that these will be the final changes to the roster, unless anything comes up at the trade deadline.

again, thanks for comments, but i'd prefer them to be positive ones, or at least constructive. i'm fine with criticism, but not about the way i play my own game. leave that to me :) you can't tell people to be original in their dynasties and then tell them how they should do it...that just doesn't make sense. i totally understand that what you're saying makes sense, it's just not how i'm playing the game. i'm not gonna tell you how to play yours, so let's just have some mutual respect :D -shakes your hand-

Nuggets- Raptors win again!

Postby Donatello on Thu Jul 15, 2004 12:38 pm

The Raptors have extended their winning streak to four games! (Y)

Image

An interesting, and quite unusual, sidestory has developed from this game. Early in the first quarter, while celebrating a HUGE fast break dunk, Yao Ming was groped from behind by one of the Refs....

Image

The Ref was immediately arrested and taken off premesis....several fans in the Toronto stands claimed, in post-game interviews, that they saw Yao blow a sweet, gentle kiss to the Ref as he was escorted, in handcuffs, to an awaiting police cruiser. We will refrain from further comment on the subject....and now, ON WITH THE JAMS!!

Image
Image
Image
Ray Allen put up a noble effort, but there was nothing he could do to stop the unstoppable trio of Kobe, Yao, and Joshua Carr, who fans have dubbed "Blink"....

Image

HE'S ON FIRE!!! "Blink" finished with 28 points, 9 assists, 2 rebounds, and a steal.

Image

The Raptors are now 4-2 on the season....up next....

The fact is I'm not talking about how you playing your dynasty I'm just saying making a bunch of trades like that is unrealistic. I like the dynasty, but I will always comment on a dynasty because thats my opinion on something which I can express on these boards. I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings but thats just the way I think and making so many deals in one time period makes it unrealistic. Shakes hands back after commenting :P

Final score: Raptors 98, Blazers 94

Could this be a preview of a future point guard rivalry between Ross Myrick and Joshua "Blink" Carr? Only time will tell.

Toronto has lost to the Kings, 98-92 in overtime.

On the bright side of things for the Raptors, backup rookie PF M. Badiane (who came to the Raptors as filler in the Drew Gooden trade) surprised everyone in the building, scoring 21 points, grabbing 12 rebounds, and blocking 3 shots. Expect him to start getting major minutes....

---NOVEMBER RECAP

Image

the Raptors are 11-5. The continual strong play of the team as a whole has this league infused with fear...The young nucleus is staggering, especially with the embergence of hidden talent M. Badiane, who is averaging 14.5 ppg, 5 bpg, and 3rpg...Toronto has an exciting core of young players, all of whom are adamant about playing in Toronto for years to come. The only tough choice this offseason might be whether to keep Drew Gooden...Badiane comes much cheaper, and has actually been MORE effective with LESS minutes.

C-Yao Ming
PF-Drew Gooden/M. Badiane
SF-Josh Childress
SG-Kobe Bryant
PG-Joshua Carr

All young players....all amazing talents. The future looks bright.

Dirk embarrassed the Raptors, but Philly couldn't pull off the win.

Joshua "Blink" Carr shows off his new look (a HUGE thank you to [lob]-nbalv4evr for making my cyberface, you did a great job, right down to the hairline (Y)).

Thanks alot man! I will be starting to pick up the pace a little bit, so I will probably just do a few more total game recaps for this regular season (the big games), and then probably do more coverage when i get to the playoffs. I only play 6 minute quarters, which is only a 24 minute game, so I can realistically get 8-10 games done every day (NBA Live is how i spend my evenings/nights...kinda sad but I enjoy it :D ). I'll probably be going with this pace from now on- I am really looking forward to playoffs and the offseason. I'm gonna pick up the pace because I know I'll be hooked on Live 2005 when it comes out, and I'd really like to get deep into this dynasty. If that means that in a month or so, I have to start simming some games, I'll probably do it. Better than nothing ;)

If anyone wants to be in my 04-05 draft, just let me know. I already have the 04-05 rookies in my 03-04 season, so I'll be willing to put as many of you NLSC ballers into my 04-05 draft as you want. Just let me know in a PM, and I'll keep track of you in a post. And--to those of you who don't have cyberfaces, I won't be requiring that. It's cool to have one--but I'm allright with just created players, I don't want to leave anyone out :)

And--just so you guys know, I've played quite a bit farther than what I've posted, so I'll be "catching up" on this post pretty soon.

With some incredible luck, I've just lost 2 of my main guys to injury. Yao will be out for just 2 weeks, but M. Badiane is out for 7 weeks!!! So much for his development this year :( He's out with an 11 game average of just over 11pts.

I'm not going to post any more recaps for this season until the playoffs. I'm just very anxious for this offseason. I've never liked season one of dynasties. I have decided to go ahead and sim the rest of this season up until the playoffs...hopefully I make the playoffs.

Again--anyone who wants to be in the draft for my 2nd season, let me know- I'll be happy to put you in.
