Ken Berger @KBergCBS
Knicks' agreement to acquire Andrea Bargnani viewed by other team execs as predictable response to rival Nets' spending spree.
One exec of Knicks' deal to acquire Bargnani, an overpriced luxury: "Now that the Nets put their wallet down, the Knicks had to keep up."

Great deal for the Knicks. Bargnani is a proven allstar powerforward aka Gasol, Bosh with 3pt range. Bye Heat, Hello Knicks.

Amare-Bargs will be a devastating high-low inside-outside combo. Especially next to Melo and in the pick and roll with Felton.
Although Laker fans wouldn't want to hear it, I bet the Knicks wish they still had D'Antoni as their coach right now.

Where's your statistical prospect on these Knicks team, 73-9?

Andrea Bargnani's contract includes a trade kicker.

The Knicks trading Camby to the Raptors provides a nice bookend for his career, though it remains to be seen how much he'll play.
I'd probably take Novak over Bargnani at this point.

UPDATE: Knicks trade for Bargnani will NOT be approved by NBA tonight. As a result, teams will have to restructure under 2013-14 cap figures

Knicks and Raptors both still motivated to do the deal, but it will have to be tweaked once the 2013-14 salaries kick in on July 1.

Unclear at the moment why the deal did not get NBA approval. Still expect a Bargnani-to-NY trade in some form during moratorium.
Basketball reasons?

I'm surprised on general perception that this trade benefits the Knicks. At the very worst, they say Gnani's an offensive spark off the bench. But isn't that what Novak flourished as, as a great spark off the bench.

The Raptors board in Realgm would be a fun read.

They deserve to have some fun. It's a glorious day.

Yeah, just what the Knicks need - an oft-injured, soft 7-foot stiff who can't rebound or play defense. Didn't the Knicks learn anything from the Pacer series?????

This is sarcasm... Right?
Anyway, I think it's a good deal for both teams, Knicks need some offensive talent and the Raptors simply need to get rid of a player who has worn out his welcome.

Classic NovU post.

Novak contract is guaranteed? He has 2 years left as Bargnani if i'm not wrong.
For the knicks, it's a so so trade, the good is that they got rid of Novak's contract but Bargnani will do what he did in Toronto, be a 4 who plays outside... and he would be a nice addition if D'Antoni was the coach
For the Raptors. The picks are the only good thing, Novak's contract is a joke. He can't even guard his grandmother

Quentin Richardson has been mixed.
Quentin Richardson has agreed to a 3YR deal as part of a sign-and-trade in order for the Knicks and Raptors to complete their Bargnani trade

What position is he going to play? Seriously between Amare, Melo and Bargiani they all play their best when they are at the 4.
Then again he may play the 5. Tyson Chandler was useless against the Pacers.

Roy Hibbert's eyes just lit up.
I really hate the Knicks current philosophy. They have to get bigger and tougher, not softer.

Bargnani's only bright spot in his entire career was with his shooting(which btw Novak provided more efficiently). He absolutely is under average with everything else. He's been a high volume usage player when he was able to post good numbers. With Carmelo, and Felton around, he's not going to get to control too many possessions now, you don't want him to btw. Which arouses the question his ability to play without the ball in his hand... well. And he's close to second to none when it comes to being a defensive liability.
if the Knicks are planning to give him meaningful minutes as a starter, it's going be through a lot of trouble trying to work this guy into the system.
If the Knicks were planning to use him as an offensive spark off the bench, they already had one, a proven role player who was a great offensive spark off the bench in Novak.
Toronto fans should make this day a national holiday.
