If the Knicks get through to the NBA Finals, Jeffx, we need to get you on the podcast. ;)

Knicks gotta hold serve tonight - let's make this a short series.

Carmelo wins the scoring title, J.R. the 6th Man of the Year - sweet!

Looks like they'll win Game 2 more comfortably.

If the Knicks play in Indy like they did last night, they'll get back home court. Great second half. Loved the defense and terrific play by Pablo.

That was in response to Game 2 of their first round series, but funny how it was just as applicable to yesterday's game against the Pacers.

We'll see what Amar'e has Saturday night.

It seems that his minutes will likely be limited. As the article notes, probably a good idea to keep expectations low.

J.R Smith will opt out of his contract with the New York Knicks and become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Doesn't sound like there's too much more to it than simply re-signing for a slightly bigger deal, though I guess the situation could sour and he could walk. Still, after his disappointing postseason performance, the offers elsewhere might not be much better.

I get so jealous watching San Antonio play basketball the way it should be played. Knicks haven't played like that since the championship years.

J.R. Smith will opt for free agency. Interesting to see if another team gives him an offer he can't refuse.

As I said before, after his postseason performance, they've probably got a decent chance of keeping him with whatever offer they're able to put on the table.

Yeah, his postseason performance together with his demeanor could be what ruins his big payday. I couldn't think of any contending team that would spend big money on him and I do not think he'll bolt away to a subpar team like Shannon Brown did.

From Frank Isola in today's Daily News;

Knicks draft picks seldom stick
For whatever reason — poor selections and an impatient front office — the Knicks, who have the No. 24 pick, don’t draft well.

It didn't help that the Bulls got a couple of their lottery picks by way of the Eddy Curry trade. As noted here:

The acquisition of Melo is starting to pan out for them, especially if they can continue to make some solid moves, but they definitely have been quick to give up on some of their more promising young players.

JR Smith re-signs with the Knicks

According to Howard Beck of the New York Times, J.R. Smith has agreed to a 4-year deal worth approximately $24.5 million to return with the Knicks – the fourth year being a player option.

Hate, hate, hate the Bargnani trade. Makes the Knicks softer than they already are. Now I heard they're looking at Elton Brand. How old is he?

Re: The Knicks Thread....

Fri Jul 05, 2013 12:03 pm

He's 34. He wouldn't be a bad pickup for the veteran minimum, but I'd be keeping expectations to a minimum.

Decent deal for Smith, though they better hope he returns to his regular season form.

Pacers are trying to snatch Copeland up. Knicks can't let that happen.

UPDATE: Just heard Copeland signed with the Pacers.

If they sign that clown Nate Robinson, I will have a fit!

Re: The Knicks Thread....

Wed Jul 17, 2013 11:56 am

He actually did quite well for the Bulls last year. I wouldn't mind if they re-sign him if the Knicks are willing to take a pass.

That's a kick in the teeth, though.

Re: The Knicks Thread....

Kenyon Martin has been re-signed.

Also, Madison Square Garden will need to move.

So Dolan's spending all this loot renovating MSG, only to have to move in 10 years??? Makes no sense.
