The Last of Us Hype Machine

Postby [Q] on Fri Jun 07, 2013 3:27 pm

everybody and their mothers have been praising this thing like it's the best game ever, but i'm a bit skeptical. I will still have to try it, but if it's anything like Uncharted 2, I will stab someone in the face. Plus I hate that Batman X-Ray vision cheating bullshit that's so trendy nowadays.

The Multiplayer looks pretty awesome though.

What's wrong with Uncharted 2? Come to think of I think I need to play Uncharted. Thank god for buying a console late in his lifespan.

the last of us has been hyped to me forever. for the last year every time i went into gamestop the girl there kept telling me how its gonna be the best thing ever created in the history of the world so i should preorder now. now all i see everywhere on the net is how awesome it looks and no one cant wait for it to release. well like you i am not so sure about it. to be honest i am much more excited for state of decay which i believe is out now for xbox but i will wait for pc version.

Maybe the girl is hitting on you and just wants your attention with the small talk about the game every time you went there.

Demo has been available for quite awhile now on PS Network. And you don't have to be a PSN+ member to download it.

I didn't enjoy it that much so I'm thinking about waiting for it to hit $30 price mark.

Qballer wrote:but if it's anything like Uncharted 2, I will stab someone in the face.

I feel ya. Seems like a lot of people liked it but honestly it's a 7.5 experience and nothing like 9.5 which IGN gave. UC3 wasn't much better. IGN gave it 10 but still 7.5 in my book.

I'm a PC snob and I'm still not sure why I got a PS3, but I'll be the first one to admit that Uncharted 2 was a monumental achievement (so was #3 for that matter), and it seems to be widely considered as the best PS3 game ever. I rarely use my console, but I'll definitely buy The Last Of Us as soon as I have some time to play it.

Has anyone got this game yet? How's the experience compared to Uncharted series(w/o any spoiler)? Similar or different? Worth paying full $60?

I'm trying to stay away from the trailers/reviews as much as possible. LoL.

Kewl. I will also give it a shot.

Based on what I've seen and heard so far, it's got more(than Uncharteds) puzzles, less shoot-em-down, and more stealth elements to this game. Sounds like a fun game. Hope the world will feel real and awesome. And ofc, I'm expecting storyline to be the strength.

I thought about getting a PS3 exclusively to play this game. Then I just watched a 3 hour "movie" posted online. Looked like a great game.

i dont think i have ever bought a game console to play any single exclusive game. i went with the genesis over snes even though the snes has the one game franchise i liked more than any other in zelda. i did that cause the genesis as a hole was just better imo. i am still a little upset at how fast sega had fallen

and that was my main point in not getting the game. with all the hype, i knew i'd be tempted, but this is the type of thing i'd like to avoid, a $60 movie.

Are you going to wait for it to hit PSN+ free game store then? wait... wait... wait...... just little more...... wait... just get a ps4, q.

I'm thinking about EB games's $1 a day promotion now. If I could finish this game in a day, I will get $59 back in a gift card. Not sure if they have that in the states tho. Our EB games are called Gamestop there.

Going to pull my classic "get Gamefly for one month to catch up on new releases with no replay value" for this one. Tomb Raider's my game of the year so far, but I've only really played that and the new Bioshock.

so i wound up borrowing the game from a friend. It's a lot like uncharted, but it's actually better because you get to craft items and upgrade your guns. I liked the parts where you played as the girl to mix it up a bit. the problem is that i did not like uncharted so even though this was better than uncharted, i wan't really sold on this game. since i borrowed it, i could not play multiplayer which i think i would've liked a lot more than the story. all in all, when i finished the game, i was disappointed to see that of all the hours i put into the game, the statistics show there was only about 2 1/2 hrs of actual gameplay (N). so this is basically a $60 movie like i thought it would be.

what pissed me off were the parts in the game where they forced you to sneak around. it just gave me bad flashbacks to that shitty new hitman game. voice acting and graphics were great like everyone said. game is basically like call of duty where they wait for you to get to a spot and they run a cutscene. what would make this game great is more of the timed button pushing actions

oh and forgot to mention how much load times suck on this game. it doesn't come close to all-time worst (Blitz: The League PS2) but it is more than annoying

I picked this game up from sale $14.88+tax(lol steal) last week. And I disagree with Qballer entirely. This is NOTHING like Uncharted. In fact, this is what everything Uncharted should have been. Battles are actually intense and involves actual strategy. Suspense build up is top notch. STORYtelling, voice acting, animation is SUPERB. I just couldn't let go of controller. You will play hours and hours, and still feel the game offers something more spectacular on every turn.

And I don't think Loading Time is that long. It actually feels faster than a lot of other games. Checkpoint seems to load at respectable speed too whenever on death.

This by far is the best title I've played recently. Must buy.

I don't mind loading times as long as they're only long at the beginning of the game a la GTA V or this one. This game was fun, but I was glad I rented it.

The first impressions were amazing - the gameplay felt gritty and like a current-gen horror game done right (unlike say, RE6), with scarce ammunition, melee and stealth. I don't really have the patience for stealth games, but it was probably my favorite part of this game. It's pretty intense sneaking around with clickers nearby and the parts where you played as Ellie were great. While frequent checkpoints in adventure games are great, it takes away the consequences and fear of dying. No matter how good the graphics get, it's not close to as scary as Resident Evil 1 when you're about to die still several doors from a typewriter... A few times I just sprinted from checkpoint to checkpoint, avoiding all the enemies and obstacles in the way.

The second half of the game started to feel like Uncharted once I mastered the mechanics, but it was fine because story. I can't say I was a big fan of the ending but ultimately it was pretty good.
