the other night it was about "muscle memory". now he has decided to not come back at all. whatever it is, he's a bad liar. my question is if the decision to not come back at all came before the season started? (or even before he made those stupid adidas return commercials)

afaik he wasn't even expected to come back this season before the season even started but he wanted to do a LeBron by being an attention whore by teasing fans, joining the team in pregame shootarounds.
So the fans were teased and expected something, when their expectation didn't happen then the hating started.

Phew. I was expecting the Nets to take care of business at home when the Bulls couldn't close out the series in Chicago in Game 6, but I'm happy to be proven wrong. I agree that it's silly the way some Bulls fans are turning on him, though Woj makes a good point about the way he's handled the situation. I'm inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt and suggest that he simply doesn't want to make such a negative declaration, but officially ruling out a return would've been a better move. That was always going to be a possibility given the timing and nature of the injury and subsequent surgery, so it's not unreasonable. It's not Rose's fault that fans build up certain expectations based on this and that, but at this point he probably should've come forward and put an end to the speculation.

People are realizing that this Bulls team is legit and could contend in these playoffs with Rose. Which they were leary of before, even as the team performed as expected during the season. Beat up and ailing without Deng or Hinrich with Noah also hurting they outlasted a hyped up Nets team.

People think Rose is letting his teammates down, and I forget who mentioned it but he may very well be afraid about reinjuring himself severely in the playoffs again.

And it's a fine opportunity to smack around a Bulls management that maybe could have spent a little more and put a legit contender on the table that would encourage Rose to make a return. Especially since some people tried to float rumors the team told him not to come back.

They pressured him into coming back and turned the fans against him even though his knee was still bothering him. The announcement that he was cleared to play was definitely a mistake and didn't help the situation if he truly wasn't ready to return - mentally or physically - which obviously appears to be the case.

Both sides have definitely played a part in this becoming messy and distracting. I think it stems from them both hoping for the best case scenario though, which is understandable but has held them back from being honest with the fans and perhaps themselves to a certain extent. They're in a tough position: if Rose is out for the whole season, there are accusations that both he and the organisation gave everyone false hope and were dishonest. If he were to come back too soon and in the worst case scenario got hurt again, both sides would be scolded for being reckless and foolish after such a major injury. Bottom line, this isn't a good situation but hopefully it will resolve itself by next season.

In the meantime, I'm going to enjoy that the Bulls have shown a lot of heart and put together a pretty respectable season given the circumstances. I'm hoping that they can find a way to keep a couple of the guys they brought in this year, like Nate Robinson and Marco Belinelli.

Well... I'm paying for a league pass, so I'm also paying for the Bulls. Period. It's still good to see, that there are Bulls fans who back Rose's decision not to play. But that doesn't change my mind when it comes to how Bulls are communicating about his status.
It feels like: "Buy a ticket for a Bulls game and maybe the shy Derrick Rose will appear. We won't guarantee anything, but the chances are there. So pay for it!"

It reminds me a little of some of the ads on ESPN Australia during the regular season, when they were hyping up the chance to see Andrew Bogut every time the Warriors were on. Unfortunately, during the stretch where they were showing a couple of Warriors games, Bogut was still being eased back into the lineup and was actually out of action every time, so any Aussies only tuning in to see a homegrown player would have been disappointed. On the plus side, they showed Game 6 of the first round series with the Nuggets here, where he had that big game.
