Jackson, who was not always easy to deal with, had been butting heads on and off with Popovich since February, and the friction grew in the last week. So the Spurs eliminated a potential problem.

Spurs waived G/F Stephen Jackson. With just a week before the playoffs start, it's a surprise. According to Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowki, Jackson and coach Gregg Popovich have been "sparring" over Jax's role throughout the season. There must have been a straw that broke the camel's back sometime in the last week, and the organization now reportedly feels that he's having a bad influence on the younger players. Captain Jack is now eligible to be picked up by any team, but he is not eligible to be on a playoff roster

What's so surprising about that. This was before the CBA and it was the GSW that signed him to an extension of $27,769,500 for 3 years starting in 2010-11. He was then 21ppg, 5reb, 6ast player.

Unhappy with Jackson earlier in the season, Spurs officials met with him before March 1, and the situation was resolved, albeit temporarily.
