I got a HUGE steal with this trade. As good as any of the players I traded are in RL, 2k rates them very low. Avery Bradley's potential is an A- which means he can definitely hit an upper 80's or low 90's range in his prime. Vucevic has a potential of D, same with Nicholson, and the big baby has a ton of mileage on him. Oh, and Brandon Bass, who can play center reliably.

Patrick sat down in his chair and sighed. He had just made a deal that he knew would pay off. Now came the hard part. Telling those who had been traded that they were gone. Patrick called Glen first, who came into his office.
"Glen, you've been traded. I'm sorry, but your headed to Boston." Pat said, as even as he could, though he was somewhat sad himself. He had been as assistant coach, and Glen was a great guy. Glen sighed.
"I guess it is a business." He then extended his hand, which Patrick shook. He left quickly. Andrew and Nikola didn't seem to care when they heard the news of their departure, they almost seemed relieved to be getting out of a rebuilding project.

Avery and Bradley came in the next day. The entire team was at the airport to greet them, so hopefully they would feel at home. Jameer spoke first.
"Nice to have you guys here!" He said excitedly. Brandon spoke first for the new duo.
"We are too. Avery wouldn't shut up about all the chicks in Orlando on the way here." Brandon said, lightening the mood. Everyone seemed to laugh a little.
"Oh, I assure you, there are some good ones here!" Tobias, usually a quiet dude said.

After that, it was time for the first game of the season against a strong team, the Nuggets.

Just like that, the Magic won their first game in their home opener. Patrick had a feeling there wouldn't be a lot of moments like this.

Nice to see another Magic Association. I am doing one too (link in sig) and aiming for Wiggins in 2014! :D

Nice to get Bradley, although dunno about trading Vucci Mane, remember its not always about the overall rating. I have him leading the league in rebounds for me

Dang. Now you got me feelin stupid

Haha but seriously, if you get Wiggins you'll be my BFF. The thing is, I did regret trading your boy Vuci but Avery Bradley is a defensive beast plus he's gonna be a stud sooner rather than later. Andrew Nicholson is basically a worse Bradley at this point, and Big Baby isn't as good as Bass right now, so I can justify that part of the trade.

I will regret the Vuci trade soon, as Bradley doesn't even come close to his PER-36 statistics as of now, but this trade was made for the future, not the present. :P

Anyway, thanks for sharing your input!

Yeah you are right you have to give something up to get something. I guess it leaves you the option of drafting a big man in the 2013 draft and knowing you can give them immediate minutes at the Center spot. Although keep winning games and you won't be picking so well :P

Patrick sighed. This team is inconsistent. Just two nights earlier they had beaten a top-tier team, the Nuggets. Tonight they lose to a lottery bound team. Clearly this team was in need of some young talent, other than Harris and Bradley. It was time to make a trade. Sadly, it wouldn't be an easy one to make, as the interest in Bradley has been growing ever since his game winner, and he is off the list of people who could get traded.

Image

Image

This trade seems incredibly lopsided on paper, but i'll explain it. We get another potent defensive player with Butler, who has loads of potential. We have Rip Hamilton who can play the wing, and Bellinelli, a floor spacing player who can come off the pine and give the team a spark.

Belinelli and Hamilton also both have Expiring Contracts. This trade also allows us to play small ball:

PG: Nelson
SG: Bradley
SF: Hamilton
PF: Butler
C: Bass

Here is what I love about the above lineup. We have three 3point shooters, Butler who can attack the basket and make mid-range jumpers, and Bass who also has a mid range game. So, we can do something like this:

Image

If you can't tell the significance of this, there is no one at the beginning of the play near the basket, where the highest % shots come from. This draws defenders away from the basket, which means all we have to do is have Nelson/Bradley/Butler penetrate the paint. Now that i'm in the paint, I can either kick out to one of my three 3point shooters or go up with it. While this will probably destroy our rebounding chances, it will allow for quick and effective offense.

From now on I will play be doing 3 recaps per in-game month along with regular updates about trades etc.

Yeah, if I could get my hands on Nerlens it would be nice to ensure he gets lots of miutes. I know, as much fun as buzzer beaters are, when your team is rated overall 30th it's no fun to have the 11th pick. No offense to him, but I don't think Alex Len is gonna reshape the franchise :P

No your right Alex Len doesn't seem like the answer Haha. In my one I have managed to acquire another 2014 pick so will be hoping that between mine and the other I will be able to give myself a good chance of getting the #1 or #2 pick. Would love Wiggins, but Jabari Parker wouldn't be a bad consolation prize.

I like the acquisition of Butler. Makes for some very interest lineup options. So who is your regular starter at Center?

Well Brandon Bass is playing center rather well, surprisingly. Here's Bass's box score from last game: 12 pts, 10 rbs, 3 ast. It was the bulls, too O.o

Yeah with Wiggins vs. Parker both will end up all-stars, so it wouldn't kill you to take parker home at #2. Now imagine if you get the 1st and 2nd picks. That happened to me once when I had a hornets franchise, and my starting lineup looked like this after one season:

PG: Eric Bledsoe
SG: Eric Gordon
SF: Andrew Wiggins
PF: Jabari Parker
C: Anthony Davis

Wow, that is young talented lineup. I would look to move Gordon, simply because he is just a few extra years older than the core.

Can Parker play the four you reckon?

Well Jabari is 6'8 - 6'10 based on what draft class you use, which is tall enough to play PF. Obviously he can shoot the ball from anywhere, and since he has athleticism he has the potential to be the best PF in the game. Period.

I haven't played my hornets association in a while but I might take a few minutes tonight to dig it up and make some trades for fun! :D

Obviously if you get the #1 and #2 picks youll draft those, so imo just put whoever is taller and weighs more at PF.

By the way, what draft are you using, I have trouble finding good ones.

Yeah true, either could play the 4 well in a small ball style, and as you say they are likely to get bigger anyway.

For draft classes I used viewtopic.php?f=149&t=88811

Not too sure how well they work, to be honest I don't have the most updated ones either.

Boy, was that a bittersweet victory. Everybody seemed happy in the locker room when Mr. Ewing walked in. Jimmy Butler was doing the dougie while everyone else sat around and laughed. It seemed like this teams leader was still Jameer, but Jimmy and Avery are definitely next in line.

The team is incredibly weak on both ends of the floor. The scouts are especially active. So far, Shabazz Muhammed, Nerlens Noel, and Marcus Smart are the front runners to the Magic. The injury bug has been absolutely horrible as of late.

Eric Gordon, Paul George, Dwight Howard, Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, Paul Pierce, Tony Parker, Al Horford, Jrue Holiday, Anthony Davis, and Demar Derozan are all injured. All of them are all-star caliber players.

Hopefully, next year, things will start to look up for the Orlando Magic........Mr. Ewing was sitting in his office when the phone rang. He picked up the phone, and started shaking. He ran to get a pen and paper.

Final score: 101-109

After scribbling down the names and numbers, Patrick couldn't believe how badly he was robbing the Milwaukee Bucks for one of their best players, and no, it was not either members of their inefficient back court tandem. The trade went through, and well, Patrick felt like laughing.

Image

Yes, he landed Larry Sanders for 2 bench warmers and a declining unathletic point guard. Of course he did have to sweeten it with a pick, but he would try and pry a 1st pick from the bobcats next season. But that is neither here nor there. Larry Sanders is an amazing defensive presence for a young team. He leads the league in Blocks and pulls down a consistent 9.2 rebounds per night. While he offensively raw, he has time to develop that part of his game. Patrick also landed Drew Gooden, who will be great off the bench for Bass. The best part about this? The Magic's rotation was now completely solid.

PG: Avery Bradley
SG: Rip Hamilton
SF: Jimmy Butler
PF: Brandon Bass
C: Larry Sanders

With Brandon Bass now at PF he can stretch his mid range jumper more, and Jimmy Butler can now play his natural position. Rip Hamilton will now be more effective, as he is great off the ball, and Avery Bradley is a young, athletic guard. With a good lottery pick this year, we could be seeing the playoffs very soon.

Nice lineup now. So just to clarify the picks. You gave up a second rounder, and also swapped 2014 first round picks?

Larry was loving orlando. He knew right now his team sucked, there was no denying that. But you could just smell the potential in the locker room. Avery, Larry, and Jimmy had been pulling all nighters in the jim with just gallons of gaterade, sandwiches, some basketballs and the hoops. They were dedicated. The future would soon be here, and when it came, look out NBA.

So I just played a load of games when I could to speed through November and December. I really wanna sim to the offseason just to get to the draft and start real rebuilding, but i am not sure if thats considered fair/acceptable. Any feedback?

The Warriors are surprisingly good this year, actually not surprised to see them down the Magic.

Good luck for the next game though!

Thanks dude! Yeah, the warriors are hard to play against, since David Lee has a silky mid range jumpshot and so does Bogut. It leaves the paint wide open for a Curry drive then kickout.

Tanking? No, we would never do that, what are we doing here, going for a top draft pick? Haha this guy over here..

But seriously, i'm trying when I play games, it's just not exactly easy when the Warriors have a 3rd ranked offense and a 5th ranked defense and my team looks like a Helen Keller Rec League squad :cheeky:

Andrew_Wiggins, Haha I feel ya, I am scared to play too many games with my team, they seem to work so well together. Once I actually play a season properly, probably after the 2013 Draft, I will have to up the difficulty or sliders I think. Check my association and my win over the undermanned Grizz Haha!

Okay, so the update I delivered yesterday was old (January - March) and now I can finally get to the present, which is the offseason.

So, first off, I won't do the standings as they stayed just about exactly the same as my last update, with a couple small changes.

Awards

MVP: KD
ROY: Damian lillard
6th man: OJ Mayo
DPOY: DeMarcus Cousins
MOP: Goran Dragic
COY: Scott Brooks

Playoffs

ESPN: "Despite a sluggish start to the NBA season, the lakers kicked it into full gear in the second half of the season, grabbing the #4 seed in the West. First, they knocked off the very weak suns, and next the warriors in 4. After that, they traveled to the western conference finals to battle KD and OKC. In an upset of the century, in the seventh game Kobe Bryant inbounded an ally oop to Dwight Howard who tipped it in.

What happened in the east was simply amazing. The washington wizards, led by an incredibly strong push in the second half of the season, knocked off Philly (a very good team this year) and next Toronto. Next, for the Eastern Conference finals, they faced a defensively stout chicago bulls squad, fresh off the return of star point guard derrick rose. John wall dismantled Derrick rose, crushing him on offense with his size, and limiting D rose to less than 20 points in 3 of the 5 games.

So, the L.A. Lakers played the Washington Wizards for the NBA crown, a sentence to be laughed at if said merely months ago. Sadly, the Wiz could not pull it out, winning only 1 game (off a half court John Wall game winner) to the Lakers 4.

Transaction Report

Giving:

Celtics: Courtney Lee
Blazers: 14 1st rounder, Joel Freeland

Mavs: Elton Brand, Domonique Jones
Warriors: Carl Landry

Bulls: Kirk Hinrich
Pacers: Ian Mahinmi, 13 second rounder

Knicks: Marcus Camby
Mavs: Anthony Morrow

Warriors: Richard Jefferson
Pistons: Corey Maggette

Knicks: Rasheed Wallace
Thunder: 13' 1st rounder, Hasheem Thabeet

Draft lottery

The Magic got the 4th pick.
"ARE YOU F**KING SERIOUS?" Patrick yelled. They had the worst record by far, sand ended with the 4th pick. The Magic desperately needed a Game changer, and at the 4th pick, landing such a thing would not be easy. Still, patrick felt good about the draft deep inside, even if he was angry right now.

I let Rip Hamilton, Udrih, and O'Quinn walk. Dhantay Joness, Gustavo Ayon, and Marco Bellinelli all went to test FA leaving the magic with a load of cap space.

And now, what everyone has been waiting for....

Image

I am writing this draft part live...

Everyone in the rooms palms were sweaty, especially Patricks. He did not want to be listed as the failed player gm who drafted a bust.

1. NO: Ben Mclemore (traded to sacramento instantly for 2nd pick. )
2. NO: Marcus Smart
3. CHA: Nerlens Noel (fackkkkk)
Hmmm, Anthony Bennet or Victor Oladipo? Thats who patrick narrowed it down to. Decisions, decisions. On one hand you get a talented off guard, on the other a strong rebounder who cans score.....
4. ORL: Victor Oladipo

I chose Victor because he has a great 3 point stroke, but also because we have no off guards. Belenelli and Hamilton both left, leaving us 0 Shooting guards. While Bennet is a great player to choose, and you can make an argument for him, how many minutes will he see when in my draft he's a PF and I already have a strong frontcourt, plus I was gonna make a run at a good PF in FA. Anyways, we will see later, won't we?

5. CLE: Anthony Bennet
6. MIL: James McAdoo.
7. ATL: Tony Mitchell (Later traded for Andre Robertson)
8. BOS: Cody Zeller (wow, what a steal for the C's, this kid has superstar big man written all over him..)
9. Jazz: Isaiah Austin
10. DET: CJ Leslie
11. Grizzlies: Alex Len (I predicted Alex Len at 11 earlier, funny how things work out :P )
12. DAL: Otto Porter
13. SA: Deshaun Thomas
14. LAC: Lebryan Nash
15. IND: Andre Robertson
16. HOU: Dario Saric
17. WAS: Phil Pressey
18. POR: Beejay Young
19. PHX: CJ Moccollum
20. GS: Ryan Harrow
21. TOR: Michael Carter-Williams (A steal if you ask me. Kid was rated as lottery and falls to an already strong toronto team at the 21st pick.)
22. BKN: Myck Kabongo
23. MIN: Rody Gobert
24. CHI: Mike Moser
25. DEN: Michael Dixon
26. NY: Mason Dumblee (Plumblee, sorry I couldn't resist. UNC fan here)
27. PHI: Shabazz Muhammad (I scouted this kid a bunch and did 1-1 and shootarounds with him. Very potent score, just seems unathletic. Still, he can drop 14 a night for any team, and seeing him fall to 27 is crazy)
28. MIA: Archie Goodwin
29: NY: Michael Snaer
30. LA: Nate Wolters

31. ORL: Alex Oriachi

The rest of the second round is people I haven't heard of really, plus I wanna get to the really exciting part here....

Free Agency

The deal was sealed. No, Patrick didn't land D12 or CP3 but he landed a gritty defender that has the athleticism to provide a good spark to the team. Andre Igoudala.

Victor came into my office.
"Sir, I know your giving me a ton of minutes off the bench, it's just, I want to start in the season opener. Like maybe move Jimmy to the 4, Andre to the 3, and Avery to the 1? I mean this with no disrespect, sir.

"Consider it done." Patrick said with a smile.
"You won't regret it!" Victor said before running out to tell Andre, Jimmy, Avery, and Larry. Patrick wasn't happy about it as them 5 were starting to form a "we are the best here" clique. Locker room drama possible. Patrick was also glad to have gotten Ish Smith and Samuel Dalambert join the team. Both good players, and Ish Smith was gonna be something good one day.

Nice win. Good pick as well, Oladipo is a freak, also very high motor. What draft class did you use?
