Forum Changes - An attempt at an Open Dialogue

Well, one thing I emphasize to myself when I post is that I got to set a good example. Meaning every post I make should be a post that you guys can make. I try to act like a regular member and hopefully it shows lol. We are all the same on this board, no one is better than anyone in anyways, it's just that some people have to enforce the rules. That does not make them better than anyone.

In conclusion,

We are all equal, and will stay equal.

That's my opinion and hopefully it shows when I post.

I understand your point about seeming unhelpful by only responding to notify everyone that I'm moving a thread. But as FanOfAll said, it's traditional for mods to post a notice or a brief explanation when moving a thread. I'd also like to add that I don't know everything, so I can't help with every question. It'd be nice if I could, but some problems have me stumped.

Little things like that are easy to change. I just do it to let people know that I'm moving the thread, sometimes with a note about why the issue belongs in a certain part of the forum.

But again, I feel this is being constructive. I'd like to see some more posts in the Rule Amendments topic, since that's probably the main reason people object to the moderating - we're enforcing rules that are a little too restrictive and need to be reworded (and in some cases, probably dropped).

Anyway, I want to make improvements, please keep giving me feedback.

Jeez... I was away for a little while, and missed so much. So much transpired...

I'm not going to bother with a long post because I think mostly everything has been said that needs to be said. I just read the thread as a whole, and I don't want to go back and find quotations, I'll just comment on a few things I noticed.

I'm not going to comment on EG, since I always seem to miss the stuff that goes on between him and members - mostly I've only had time for quick check ins lately, so I check the announcements section and 2005 general, see if there's anything interesting... but I think I will start reading general talk more. I've always been meaning to, now I think I will have some time.

Also I appreciated what I think ruffryder8 said, about most of the mods being just like normal members. A lot of these posts seem to be mod bashing, and even though I know a lot are directed @ EG I still found it hard not to take them personally. So I'd just like to clear up my history. Basically, when I had officially joined the site as a member, being a long time member of NLSC and programmer (although I must admit I have been slacking in that department too... there's just so much I want to do :S ) I asked/offered to be a mod, mostly because being in Canada and checking the site quite often I knew I could keep a little order while Andrew is asleep on the other side of the world. Basically I figured if something really big transpired I could calm it down, and also just do 'garden work' so to speak by moving posts, helping out new members... basically I wanted to continue my usual posting, with the added ability of being able to further help keep the forum organized. I think I've done a good job of this... I seem to always miss the really big deals such as what transpired, but I'd claim to do a good job with the little stuff. So whoever said somewhere that mods aren't dedicated to their jobs, I hope you understand that at least behind the scenes I am...

Also, I believe it was David who wrote that the mods spam with messages of 'this post moved to here.' Looking back, I can see what he means. However, I recall reading in the mod rules that we should post a friendly reminder of what forum is for what, and this is what I've tried to do every time; so as you can see, not spamming, just following the rules. I'm also very hesitant to lock posts, I'd rather just get the thread back on topic.

I have lost my train of thought a bit... but I think that's all I wanted to say. I have to go read the proposed amendments to the rules now. Looks like I lied when I said it wouldn't be a long post - sorry about that

Drama queens or not, atleast we're trying to improve the place. It's a better solution than running off to another site, isn't it?

You might not have problems with the way the place is run, but some of us do have a problem. We're trying to resolve that problem, it would be nice if you could come up with suggestions if you thought something is wrong, but refrain from critisizing (sp?) others because they are willing to say they think something is wrong.

Lots of drama queens in this case, given the fact I'm not the only one here who thinks stuff isn't going as smoothly as it could be going.

although i only post in the nba section and occasionally in the general section, i'd like to chime in on a few things. actually it was by luck i stumbled on to this thread. my comments are not meant to offend anyone or talk bad about the nlsc, just calling it how i see it...

i do agree that some threads get locked prematurely. i can't remember a few off hand that were in the nba section, but i specifically remember this happening to the God thread. this was probably one of the few threads where intelligent, educated posts were being made. well not all of them but we know who were making them. i can understand the thoughts behind making a k bryant thread but i thought locking anything that mentioned his name was a little bit too far. perhaps there should be a thread devoted to the laker team as well as it seems lately all the threads end up being about them.

i do not know Egarret personally or have a problem with him, but i can see how some users see him as condescending or don't like him. which leads me to my next randomn comment...

from what i've noticed, it seems the users that have problems with the moderation are the users that are highly active. at least in the nba and general section. personally i think some of these people should back off a little bit. it's nice to have participation, but some take this place a little too seriously and i think this is a contributor to the problems the nlsc currently is facing. i've seen this happen in other sports related forums but the problems aren't so major as the users are older and mature then the ones here.

also, if copying something from another site improves the nlsc, why not do it anyway?

anyway, i forgot what other comments i was going to make. i guess if i involved myself here more i could have contributed more to the discussion. hope this helped a little regardless. good luck

Personally, I'm not interested in fighting any such "war", I'm just interested in doing the best that I can and making the NLSC the best that it can be. I know some people will argue that competition is healthy but I have to be concerned with what's going on at the NLSC and fixing things that need to be fixed, adding new content and so on.

Some NLSC posters had a half-hour hissy-fit so Andrew started an "Open Dialogue" where users could post their comments. Some dotorgers posted their own comments and suddenly it's a war? I outlined how a moderator election system would work, David made his own comments. He also fired back when Spam Harder decided to just up and attack his site. What's wrong with that? Are you joining the droves of users who have told me I have no right to comment on one of the sites in the community and that my opinion is irrelevant?

People keep whining about this "war." Can we not comment or criticize this site like any other user? We criticize the site, lay out the exact problems we have, Andrew replies and we often hash things out. But it's painted by people as a "vicious attack by dotorg." But when worthless idiots who drop ".orgy" and "nbadead.org" and we respond to them, defending ourselves we're again painted as causing some "war." It only looks like a "war" being fought over here because no NLSC-exclusives bother to come to dotorg and criticize us there, they only make cheap-shots over here where they feel safe and protected because they're attacking that evil "warmongering dotorg."

That's not my stance, I appreciate constructive criticism no matter where it's from. I did not attack David for the suggestions he posted in this thread some time ago, nor did I dismiss them. On a couple of points I thought it best to explain my position and reasoning, but I didn't dismiss him.

I didn't say you did in either case. I singled you out earlier in the post in order to seperate you from others. Also, why you were mentioned seperately in the final paragraph.
