so it seems like benson wants to ditch all of the history associated with the hornets like the thunder did, so if/when the name goes back to charlotte they can retain the team's history?

Seen this only today, reminds me of the Cavs colors before they remade their jerseys, wouldn't be surprised if the Pelikans away jersey will look very similar to the old Cavs alternate blue jersey:

Pelicans is a stupid name for a NBA team. I say attendance goes way down because of the stupid name change and the team eventually gets moved to Seattle and is dubbed the Sonics.

It's not the best team name in the league, but I've warmed up to it a little. As far as it not being a suitable name for an NBA team, I'm kind of inclined to agree but at the same time, I can't put my finger on a reasonable explanation for that. After all, "Lakers" isn't exactly a great nickname and references a state where they haven't been located for over 50 years. Were it not such a successful franchise, it's a name that would probably get more scorn.
