Personally I didn't think he was so close on the NBA teams' radar but he did have a decent Olympic campaign which surely helped his stocks:

I believe the Spurs have now had the most Australians on their roster over the years, since in addition to Patty Mills and Baynes (in due course), they've also had Andrew Gaze and Shane Heal on previous squads. Throw in Sean Marks representing New Zealand and they've had a fair amount of the players from this region that made it to the NBA.
