Help with Converting from 2k12 to 2k13

Thu Dec 27, 2012 4:46 pm

I having been trying to learn the process of converting CFs from 2k12 to 2k13 and have had no success thus far. I have been using the NBA2k Modtool and the players just dont turn out right in-game. Would someone be willing to help me learn how to do this?

HoOpJuNkIe Your image is not showing up. I need more info in order to help you. Is the headshape or hair giving you problems or is it the texture? If it is the texture make sure you are extracting the low res textures to import to the 2K13 file. The high res are not suitable for 2K13 as far as I have found. Most turn out like zombies and others are green.
One other point, Do not extract or import the textures with NBA 2K Mod tool, use 3DM Mod Tool instead. Use vesion 4.83 if I recall correctly. It should be in the downloads section under 2K12 tools.

DukeW74, I've been having trouble with both actually. So which of the textures is the low res? The second one? This is a pic of the res I think you may be talkin about. And I made a mistake I am using 3dm by the way.

That looks like the High res. They are not always in the same place but most of the time they are.
Here is the order for the textures most of the time starting at the top.
Low res face
Low res arms
High res face
High res arms
Remember when you are messing headshapes you can not add or delete any vertex. And if I am wrong about that I would love to know how myself.
Don't forget to export the green and grey and import them as well. 2k12 also has the grey 512x512 and I usually use it as well but I haven't been able to see any difference between using it or not.
Also if everything else goes ok but you end up with black spots on the arms just open the arms texture with your chosen picture editor and save it as DXT1 with 1 bit alpha, without alpha works as well

I did what you said with Carmelo and it came out looking great except for the black spots. I have GIMP but I am having issues adding the .dds plugin.

You might try the many tutorials about GImp in the 2k11 - 2k13 sections to find out if you have the plugin installed correctly. I don't use Gimp but I know a lot of people on here do. If you want to put his exported arms on mediafire or somewhere I can re-save it for you this time. Mello has tats don't he? If not you can export any other arms with the same color from any 2k13 file and import it.
You do have this plugin don't you?

the black spots are on his neck too. so should I still change the arm texture?

Yes, anytime you have black spots on the arms you have to change the arm texture or re-save it. The black spots on the neck I have seen before but usually only when re-saving the face texture, something you don't want to do unless you have to.

So how do I get rid of the black neck spots then? The only thing I changed on the Melo was the headshape and gray textures.

What Mello are you trying to convert? I will try him and see what happens. Is it the original 2K12?

Ok the Melo turned out ok. I just decided to only replace the headshape. When you say that I need to resave the arm texture, do I do that inside the mod tool and then in the photo editing program? Or in 3DM and then in the photo program?

Normally if you have black spots on a players face if you extract a new face file from the original iff and import it to your 2K13 file that will fix the problem. As far as the black spots on the arm go you need to export the arms with 3DM and then save them with Photoshop\Gimp. If that don't fix the issue do it again starting with exporting the texture, in rare cases 3DM don't export a file correctly so just try it again.

By resave in the answer I gave you in the other post what I meant was open it with Gimp and save as a new dds again. Usually if I have a glitch somewhere I go back to the start in this case I would extract a new texture with 3DM and then open it with Gimp and save.

Ok I have learned how to deal with the spots on the arms. But when I export the face texture from 3dm it looks totally different in GIMP to where when I save and try to replace, the texture isnt compatible.

On the right is what it looks like in 3dm and the left is what ends up uploading into GIMP.

That is just the alpha channel showing through. (Black is transparent) Make sure when you save the face files to save them as DXT5 interpolated alpha. Also do not re size, they need to be 512x512.
Edit, see the top boxes that are unchecked in 3DM, check one or both I can't recall and both pictures will look the same.
