Portland Trail Blazers trade Nolan Smith, Luke Babbitt, Dan Gadzuric, 2014 2nd rounder to Boston Celtics for Jason Terry, Chris Wilcox, Jason Collins

The Blazers and Celtics made shockwaves around the league as the Blazers acquire disgruntled combo guard Jason Terry from the Celtics in a six player deal. Terry, buried in a rotation behind Avery Bradley and Courtney Lee, was disgruntled with a lack of playing time, and the Celtics opted to jettison him and his $21 million dollar contract.

Portland improves their depth considerably, replacing the improving Nolan Smith with Jason Terry, a much better, but also much older player. Terry's contract is a major concern, as he will be paid $8 million in his final season at age 37. However, a player of Terry's caliber with championship experience and sharp shooting should be a huge boost off the bench. Nolan Smith had a promising season, but the major thing the Blazers sacrificed was cap flexibility. In that sense, the trade is a huge risk. The second trade in six weeks for the team could also hurt this team's reportedly strong chemistry. Chris Wilcox could be a gem though, as he'll shore up the backup power forward position.

The Celtics, at 22-17, will be looking to rebuild soon, and Jason Terry's contract was immediately regrettable. Terry was on the block for some time, and as a result, Boston essentially gave up their off-season pick-ups for cap room and a couple middling prospects. From a talent standpoint, they lose the deal, but long term, they save $20 million. The true winners of this trade may not be known for a couple years.

From a RL standpoint, this trade is unfair. But considering Terry's poor numbers in this one, I guess this deal is okay, especially with the Cs not having a proper backup PG.

Terry is a beast when you use him well, he can shoot the ball extremely well coming around screens and hitting threes. Definitely good for you. Wilcox sucks, Collins can give fouls. Good trade

I definitely had no idea how this was gonna go down. I like the acquisition for you. A short term solution for your team!

Maybe bring back Sheed one day before he kicks the bucket

hova-, Yeah, this trade wouldn't be remotely fair in real life since Nolan Smith sucks and Terry's getting minutes. As it were, Terry was so dejected that his rating had declined to the point where Smith's was higher. The deal helps us big time in the short term. Terry is indeed good in the game, while Wilcox is a serviceable big. I did waive Collins though. I cut Shelden because he sucked and his bad attitude over not playing put our chemistry in jeopardy.

Sit, Indeed, I have the need for Sheed, but sadly he is not in my rosters. Maybe I'll sneak him into a draft

Pretty good trade for you. I thought of Jason Terry but when I thought of what you would have to give away I thought you would not go for him, but overall a solid trade for both teams.

First post on the story, but I've been reading for a while now. Good acquisition of Terry in the short term, but in the long run, like you said, is unknown yet.

Jason Terry had 15 points in his Blazers debut

It was one of the best weeks of the season thus far for Portland, as they improved their spot in the race for the 8th seed, and more importantly shored up the bench with the Jason Terry trade. Now roughly halfway through the season, Portland will need to step up if they want to keep their post-season hopes alive. If the first game with Terry is any indication though, this team could be the #1 seed's worst nightmare.

Denver shared the ball and played solid defense while Portland stayed in the game with ten three point makes. Ultimately, the road team fell short on the road and lost to the now division-leading Denver Nuggets, 105-102.

Blazers Dominate Bucks In First Game Since Trade

Damian Lillard had 16 points and 16 assists, Aldridge had 22 and 7, and newcomer Jason Terry had 15 points and 4 assists as the Blazers defeat the Bucks in a game that was less close than the final score suggested. The game was close early on, but hot shooting from three point land gave Portland an eight point edge going into halftime.

In the third, Jennings shot the Bucks out of the game as Milwaukee fell behind by double digits and all attempts to slow Portland's momentum failed. The Blazers led by as many as 19 points, before settling for a Chalupa-worthy 100-92 victory. Chris Wilcox, also acquired in the Nolan Smith trade, had 2 points and 5 assists. Portland improves to 19-21 on the season and a game and a half behind 8th place Utah in the West.
