I'm still hoping the game succeeds and am keen to check it out, but I have to admit I'm wondering whether it'll suffer a similar fate to Duke Nukem Forever, ultimately ending up feeling too dated for a brand new game. After all, No Mercy is over a decade old at this point and while it was a great game then and still fun to pick up now, it certainly does show its age in some areas.

I guess in that respect I'd compare it to NBA Live 2000. That was a high point in the NBA Live series, for its time it's a very good sim-oriented basketball game and there are actually still folks playing and patching it, but you couldn't make a new game based on that tech. Don't get me wrong, like I said I hope the game succeeds and I'm interested in checking it out; I think it'll be fun, the style will certainly be nostalgic and the modding capabilities will be awesome. I just wonder if it'll leave us with a feeling of "Hmm, yeah, that's why they moved away from that".

But with No Mercy we never got a good reason why they moved away from it, especially with the fun of the Def Jam games that used the engine. Honestly, the only real reason I don't play No Mercy all the time is because there is no ref to beat up, and I dislike the tables.

THQ ended their partnership with AKI, basically. Beyond that, the engine is certainly outdated in 2012. Like I said, I can pick up No Mercy again and really enjoy it, but I do wonder if a new game based on that tech will end up feeling a bit outdated after playing the games developed by Yuke's.

So...light at the end of the tunnel?

I have no doubt that the game will suck when released....but if they are going to be as open with modding as they say, the PC wrasslin community will take this and run run run. As long as the core gameplay is there, people will model, skin, tweak, and hopefully animate (with Euphoria?) and make this playable.

Was the Facebook update a hint that a release is finally in sight, though?

I guess so, we'll find out more Friday in the newsletter. I bet it wont be until Spring 2013 at the earliest though.

ah, guess its for donations
On Nov 7, we will finally stop saying no to everyone who wanted to kick in some $$$ towards our dream. You will be rewarded

Well, it's a step closer at least, presumably.

So it's like No Mercy, rather than other wrestling games, because it has a strike button and a grapple button? Maybe it's that I've never played No Mercy, so I'm missing something subtle, but...what?

Re: Pro Wrestling X

play No Mercy, download Project 64, find the ROM, do it. It holds up surprisingly well over the years.

Its more of the control system, pacing, etc.

That makes enough sense, but
find the ROM

makes none at all.

looks like if you drop some coin you get alpha build access on Nov 7th.

I don't want your money unless I can give you something in return. I have that now. I look at the states other indie developers have shipped their games in, and Uprising is way ahead of a lot of those alpha and beta stage games that developers give pre-order customers access to.

So on Nov 7th I'm going to open the doors again and accept your help and your support. This time I'll have something to give you. A lot, actually. And it's not a coffee mug ;)

I will gladly do that.

I may or may not. I'm interested in the game but if it's a little too much for an alpha version and there isn't a discount on the full version, I may pass.

So they are going all Kickstarter on us for the second game they make

http://www.prowrestlingx.com/blog/wrest ... etter-556/

I'll give $25 for both Uprising and the second game

Re: Pro Wrestling X

Second game? Gotta get one out first. Nice to hear things are moving forward, though.

Re: Pro Wrestling X

Sat Nov 03, 2012 9:57 am

well, afaik, Pro Wrestling X is the second fully featured game. Uprising is like a demo, beta, half version, proof of concept etc.

Re: Pro Wrestling X

Sat Nov 03, 2012 3:53 pm

Ah, OK. I took it to mean a sequel, which would certainly be ambitious before they get the first one out. In any case, once again it's good to see this moving forward, inching closer and closer to a release after so long.

another new update for the Kickstarter, if you do at least $50 you can get your own wrassler in-game

$50 and above – All current rewards listed in the sidebar PLUS a created character using the base CAW animations and assets.
$75 and above – All current rewards, a created character PLUS the texture files to customize the look.
$100 and above – All current rewards, created character, texture files PLUS a soon-to-be revealed bonus.
$150, $250, $500 – All current rewards, created character, texture files, bonus PLUS an in-game "Lifetime Championship" belt designed by Jesse Justice (design based on the backing amount).

still, $50 for both games is enough for me with this project....might have to ask the wife
