Re: How to Enable Self-Shadowing SSAO (nvidia)

All you need is Nvidia graphics card, one of the latest releases of Nvidia ForceWare drivers and Nvidia Inspector. No NBA 2k13 mods are required because you're forcing SSAO on driver level not game level - you can try it with any game.
But keep in mind that you're screwed if you own an ATI card. ATI/AMD drivers are years behind Nvidia's and you're not able to experiment with advanced driver settings when you're using Radeon card.

By the way guys. Most SSAO profiles work in NBA 2k13 only in menus and during cutscenes or replays. I found that NFS:Shift and Aion profiles work also during gameplay. The only difference between those two is darkness - NFS: Shift is way too dark for my taste so I suggest using Aion.

Tried everything bro, latest nvidia driver - installed days ago (version 306.81), i have one of the best graphics card in top10 - check..followed Jao's tutorial step by step.. but damn' I don't have luck with this, but i'm sure I will solve this problem. You know what's the biggest mistake SSAOO forgot to mention for his mod? ...

DOESN'T WORK FOR WINDOWS XP USERS BECAUSE OF THE DIRECTX (version 9.0), ONLY FOR WINDOWS 7 AND VISTA USERS (version 11.0)! Now I have to change my OS to Windows 7  makes no sense right? It's cool for me, it will make the PC more faster..and you see now what features has got from all aspects! :)

sorry for my grammar mistakes, I get lazy sometimes focusing on them.

OK, so I did some more testing and I found one very important thing. To work in NBA 2k13, many SSAO profiles require some kind of shader to be turned on. You can easily check this by going into a replay mode and turning depth of field filter on and off . When DOF filter is on SSAO will work on many profiles and when it's off SSAO is not visible. That's why many SSAO profiles don't work during regular gameplay. Fortunately NBA 2k13 uses MSAA for anti aliasing and this triggers shaders. So, all you have to do to force SSAO during gameplay is to turn on MSAA. You can then override AA settings for NBA 2k13 in Nvidia Inspector and SSAO will still work.
Right now I'm using "Half-Life 2: Fakefactory Cinematic Mod, Half-Life 2: Episode Two" profile with MSAA turned on ingame, 8xSQ AA override in Nvidia Inspector and it works flawlessly. :D

Have any of you tried changing the name of the nba2k13.exe to match the ssao game profile that you want to use?

There's no point to do this when you're able to force a profile in Nvidia Inspector.

What about Vsync, it's a FPS killer, turn it off if your gameplay is laggy, goes smoother and better, but it can cause game tearing, nevermind.. never happened that to me :).
You think if I turn Anti-Aliasing to 2x or higher SSAO will appear... nahh for XP users, sadly there is no directX 11 for XP..makes BIG difference, man. At the moment i am playing the game with Aion and the graphics are not bad..maybe i'll post some screenshots, i'll make many tests from the nVidia Inspector. (Y)

VSync with Triple Buffering is NOT an FPS killer, and it resolves the tearing as well. Look it up.

That's pretty obvious. Lose that XP piece of crap. It's 11 years old! That's six generations of hardware old! It's a horrible system and you should upgrade ASAP. Believe me, I work as a sysop taking care of 300+ users every day.

 question all. :!:

After I updated my nvidia control panel, for me to enable and try the SSAO. I cant open 2k13.
I tried reinstalling the game and rolling back my graphic driver. I tried removing all the graphic patches but still with no effect. omg
I just don't know what happened. lol  any ideas? I'll try system restore and see what happens :cheeky:

Edit: fixed. My Bitdefender 2013 caused this. :cheeky: there's no way I can do but to delete it. wew!

All Facebook users, you can support this and maybe we'll get a dedicated NBA 2k13 SSAO profile sometime in the future.

I wasn't able to find the ambient occlusion compatibility. There isn't even a compatibility section. Any suggestions?

EDIT: nvm fixed

actually, for ambient occlusion to work for xp, just open NVIDIA inspector... then find your base profile which looks like _GLOBAL_DRIVER_PROFILE (Base Profile).
Set everything JaoSming included on his video.. NEVER USE NBA 2k13 profiles cause it won't work..

After doing so.. run your nba and it would certainly work. I got an nvidia gtx 560 and had set ambient quality to very high.. looks so great at 60 fps..
Try it out..

glad it worked for another xp user!! I actually thought I was the only one playing on xp with occlusion..
anyways, I personally deleted my NBA 2k13 profile.. IT JUST DOESN'T WORK..
It proved itself that way when I tried enabling FXAA on my NBA profile.. At first I thought it was just occlusion not working
but after seeing my set FXAA NOT WORKING.. that's when I knew the WHOLE PROFILE was not working..

anyways.. just delete your NBA profile.. including the nvidia control panel one..

Yeah man, you're not the only one who has the SSAO self-shadowing effect on Windows XP right now  . Thanks to God and to You for resolving my problem, really worth it, I tested, tried everything before and nothing. This is the new era  (Y)

Oh, here are some previews, I said that I will upload.

Ambient occlusion compatibility : Diablo III - I think it was set Performance (screenshots are a bit old)

Ambient occlusion compatibility : Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Deathmatch - Quality, looks more cool in gameplay, the quality of the images aren't quite good though.

why every time i try this...my game becomes laggy...i have nvidia 320m...

its because your video card can't handle it. Try using the performance setting.

i dont have MSAA on during the game, so it doesnt run during gameplay. So it only shows up in replay mode for me
