NBA 2K13 released in Amazon & Steam.

I must be missing something here. What distinct advantage does DD have over retail, besides not having to play with the disc in game?

The DD game costs 30$ and we have it on the same day of release.

The Retail game (for us) costs about 60$ and we have it more than a month after the release date.

That may be the case where you're at, but here in the states, Amazon offers the DD version for $26.99 and the disc version for $29.99. DD is $3.00 cheaper for some reason. This the PC version btw. Still hasn't been explained why most think the DD is better.

it's not really better, it's just more convenient for most PC gamers.

I never need a disc.

Judging by the posts from our various South American users, for some people it means getting the game at a reasonable price.

does this mean the game will be $10 cheaper by the time it's released digitally? what did it take before the game dropped from $30 to $20 last year, maybe a month or so right? i love how pc gamers get completely bent over now days. i have been buying 2k since the dreamcast days and this has become so ridiculous.

I don't know about that, but I expect there will be discounts on the DD version from time to time. We saw that quite a few times with NBA 2K12.

Considering that, on Steam, the older games of the series (2K10, 2K11 and 2K12) are $14.99 as of right now, I don't think that the game will release at $19.99. The price will be $29.99 as it was the release last season, but I'm quite sure it will go on a special sale between now and Christmas (midweek madness or weekend deals). If not, 100% sure that it will feature on the Winter Sale, come December, around 50% less. (all of this on Steam, don't know what will happen with other Digital Distributors).

I'm still figuring out if I wait or not, I just don't know.

I don't know why it doesn't surprise you. It surprises me, though. As much as we've gotten the shaft this year with all the missing features, it just makes no sense whatsoever for them to be delaying the DD release so much.

It doesnt surprise me because there was no sense about not releasing the DD on Oct 2nd to start with. That's what surprised me.
Now after that first delay we get another?...well now it doesn't surprise me, nor will it if they then say "no..now the release will be on Nov 16th"

But hey...what can I do?...the only other way I have for getting the game where I live is to pay insane amounts of money to have it delivered via Amazon/Ebay (and always have the chance it gets stuck in Customs) or pirate it via torrent...but them I'm the evil guy who steals from poor gaming companies right?

My personal feeling is that is what 2K wants. Then next year they can say "hey look, PC sales sucked last year and there was more pirating, so we're not going to produce the PC version anymore"
Of course if that's what they want to do, just do it. Delaying the release is doing nothing but ticking people off.

Now it's definitely delayed until Oct 30, 2012, since gamefly.co.uk just an hour ago had October 16, 2012, which has been changed to October 30, 2012 .

What is the easiest way to play original NBA 2K13 without a DVD ? All games besides NBA 2k13 are either steam or origin downloadable games, so I never had this issue..

Circumventing the game's copy-protection is something against the rules of this forum, so can't help you there.

Yeah WTH...pirating a game...feels like going back 10-15 years to the early 2000s... when I was a high school teen with no money and we had no other choice since original games were a luxury item or they never released in my country...
Steam, Origins, other DDs, were a blessing for us, they put an end to all that, now you can get games at the same time and for the same price ppl in the bigger markets do, get updates, patches, support, etc.

Valve, BW, EA, Ubisoft, Bethesda, etc....all have said that piracy dropped by a huge % since programs like Steam became massive....guess 2K didn't get the memo.

I just can't bring myself to do that. When/If the DD comes out I'd rather have it instead, and there is no way I'm paying twice for the same game.

Talk about destroying a business model. Delaying the DD version for almost a month after release defeats the purpose of DD.

The idea being delay 2K13 digitally so the Chinese market has a week to buy the Online game instead of 2K13.

Finally got my hands on a retail disc....Lets see all I had to do: I had to buy a retail disc from gamestop, had it delivered to a hotel in Miami where a co-worker was lodged in a business trip and he had to hide it in his bag to avoid customs taxes in Argentina...yup...that's way easier and faster than just having a DD available...
