NBA 2k13 IGN Review

THE VERDICT

It’s both scary and exciting to think how good a game we might get if NBA 2K actually had a serious competitor pushing it to new heights. But even when left with a clear, unobstructed path to the basket, 2K13 throws down a monster jam with this year’s edition – probably the last one developed solely for this generation of consoles. It’s obviously the best hoops game out there, and it might even be the best sports game of all, period.

IGN video player sucks, YouTube's 1000x better.
No offense to ramuajith.

They don't usually cover too much in their reviews, but the game is looking good.

They best have an update for that Suns court quick.

Ronnie2K said they would post a written Insight on Association tomorrow.

IGN said last year 2K12 was the best ever eventhough there were several frustrating elements in the game, especially the pre-patch version. So, just gotta wait and see.

That's fine and dandy, however given that it wasn't even mentioned up until this point nor at all in the review, it means it likely didn't get many upgrades. I understand that everyone likes different things and My Player was their most popular mode, I just wish they'd add some new things to association...

An annual gig for IGN.

I'm not going to overreact to the what the review did not mention. What it did mention though, sounds really nice.

They also said Madden 13 was something to be proud of, so it is a good idea to not take too much from reviews like these. Nothing is better then your own hands on impressions.

It's interesting that they deem this year's game to be better, while awarding it a score of 9.1 compared to last year's 9.5; a fine example of how numerical scores are overrated and at times seemingly arbitrary, regardless of whatever scale/criteria they have in place. If you have to give the game a numerical score though, last year's 9.5 was a bit too generous and obviously didn't leave them anywhere to go unless the game was absolutely perfect in every way with no room for improvement whatsoever.

In any case, the review was positive and demo was promising. Looking forward to the full game.

The review was absolutely pathetic. It's obvious the guy just wanted to get a review out, and didn't nearly spend any time with the game.

As far as the 9.5 > 9.1 thing, I read that IGN last year was only using .0 and .5 in their review scores. Don't know if that's true, have stopped visiting IGN for reviews a long time ago.

Ah, fair enough. Glancing back at some of their reviews for other games in recent years, it seems they're either round figures or .5s, so that's probably true.
