ASW Past vs Present is a Mode? Enhanced My Player

Gamestop just sent me an email which had a thing about 2K13 in it.

So it's its own gamemode? The only Past vs Present thing related to ASW 2K has promoted is the Dunk Contest

Past vs. Present: Who is the better dunker - Michael Jordan or Blake Griffin? Who is the more cold-blooded shooter from outside - Derrick Rose or Kevin Durant? These questions will be answered in the NBA 2K13 All-Star downloadable content. Match the stars of today against the game's greatest legends in both the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest and Three-Point Contest modes.

Also, I like how they end the sentence with "and."


On the Gamestop site itself, the description says it will take virtual basketball to the next level, blah blah, but also

Featuring an enhanced My Player mode and all-new gameplay features, NBA 2K13 will let gamers pit the best players in NBA history against the new dynasty of talent.

I know, duh, they updated the mode, but w/e, wasn't announced

I'll tell you now, I'm already exhausted by the speculation. Won't be bothering myself much until the Dev Diaries hit.

I'm guessing it's just referring to the previous description and the ability to take historical players into those modes. "Enhanced Player Mode" sounds like the usual concise description given when a game mode has received a few updates, but having said that any worthwhile expansion and enhancement that's made to My Player in terms of fixes, improvements and new features is certainly most welcome.

All of this is just fancy words and intelligent marketing. I don't think that they can do much with My Player anymore, you can't buy properties or control every fluent word in press conferences. The only thing 2K has right now is the fact they are a more established company at the moment. That's it. E3 wasn't good for either game, so saying "enhanced" most likely means "modest improvement."

That's not necessarily a bad thing for My Player, which is pleasingly deep as-is. The main drawbacks specific to My Player at present are under the hood stuff - bugs, AI, the grading system, that sort of thing - so tinkering should be sufficient.

Yep, that's very true. I didn't mind My Player, but I love the Association, which has been abandoned ever since NBA 2K9. That is the biggest 2K turnoff for me, because I play 2K & Live and use them as simulation. My Player had issues like CPU making shots after every shot clock, defense is jerky, at the beginning they'd trade everyone on your team, etc etc.

Things i would love to see added in MyPlayer:

1. Bring BACK Draft Combine! - Not DLC but already in 2K13. The mode should start with 2 days in the Combine camp..
- 1st Day - Drills ONLY: such as Shooting, Dribbling and Defensive. Have to complete all 3.
- 2nd Day - Scrimmages ONLY: against different players through out the draft class(Not just the lottery players like 2K11) Have to play 4 games.

2. Summer League - Whatever team drafts/picks you up, fight for you position in the Las Vegas Summer Pro League..

3. Integration from a POSSIBLE NCAA College Hoops 2K13 - Need i say more!?!?!?!?! Play a full college season in College Hoops, you decide when you should go pro weather its your freshman yr or senior yr. Much like the Draft Combine in 2K11 it will show you how your stock is rising or dropping throughout the season. At the end of the season, you decide to go pro then you import you draft class to NBA 2K13! Ughh I WISH!!! I WISH!!! I WISH!!! they would do this.

I have no idea why the combine was taken out. Integration is highly unlikely.

There's not going to be a College Hoops 2K13, they don't have the license. That would be awesome, though.

Balls that could end up backfiring like crazy. I can see college fans being pissed with a generic college game mode..

People who don't know the game could have high expectations, and would feel let down with a generic version. I myself would love it, I was just saying I could see negative responses.

Some folks probably would blast that approach but if they can't understand or accept that the situation with licensing is a limiting factor, then that's their problem.

It's like the lack of Charles Barkley and Reggie Miller in NBA 2K12's historical content. Sure, it was disappointing and it would've been awesome if they could've been included in the game, but all those calling it an "epic fail" on 2K's part were ignoring the limiting factor of not being able to use their likenesses without permission, so really the failure was on their part.

I would dearly love for them to include say the World Championships and/or Olympics as part of the My Player campaign to give you the ability to achieve the double ie. win the NBA title and Olympic Gold (like MJ and LeBron did). THAT would top it off.

Ah, fair enough. I was referring to the idea of a generic college league or D-League, comparing the possible backlash to the criticism that certain players weren't included in the NBA's Greatest content.
