2 rookies that the mavs drafted (or got from that trade with the Cavs) namely Jae Crowder and Jared Cunningham is now officially a Mavericks!

Hope Carlisle give them playing time.

Unexpected, but we'll be opening up against the Lakers this year.

At least it's not the Wizards or some bottom team in the East a few years back, or was that the home opener? Then again the Mavs have the Cats in the home opener.

Yeah we opened against them in 10-11 as well if I remember, the game where Dirk hit the Game Winner.

By the way, the Mavs are undefeated all-time against the Bobcats. With the Bobcats in our current state, you might as well pencil a W for that game.

Mavs picked up some nice pieces there, especially Mayo and Collison.

Nice Nice. Just when I was beginning to think they came up empty this offseason, they made up for it by making low risk moves. Elton played ok basketball last season and Kaman adds size, while new guards are young which might pay off.

Re: The Dallas Mavericks Thread

Time to restart this thread up, the Mavs absolutely made up for missing out on Deron Williams.

Mayo has so much potential and I know Rick can unlock it. Kaman and Brand are class pickups for those prices... in comparison the Wolves paid 10 mill for Ak47 while the Mavs paid 11 mill for both Kaman and Brand. Dahantay Jones reminds me 100% of a Deshawn Stevenson, and Collison can be a huge impact, especially with his speed and his athleticism. All of a sudden this off-season isn't a failure.

Any opinions on this Mavs team?

This is a 5th seed team IMO. I don't care if others think they'll miss the playoffs, but Carlisle will make it work. This team is much better than last year's team. Mayo is an excellent addition.

Re: The Dallas Mavericks Thread

I'm inclined to agree. They'll be competitive to a point, they'll overachieve throughout the year and score some big wins over better teams, probably ending up around the fifth seed. They're probably out in the first round albeit after taking a couple of games from their opponent, though with a favourable matchup they could feasibly make it through to the second. That would be a respectable effort to put forth as they look to make a splash in the 2013 offseason.

Re: The Dallas Mavericks Thread

Mon Sep 17, 2012 9:28 pm

So the Mavs only chance to get out of the first round is with luck and a favorable matchup? I guess the Mavs will never be the favorite in everyone's mind (except for Mavs fans) to win anything unless they get someone via FA or a trade. I hate that.

You think they're the favourites to win it all?

So the Maves only chance to lose in the first round is with luck and a favorable matchup? I guess the Mavs will always be the favorite in everyone's mind (except for non-Mavs fans) unless they don't get someone via FA or a trade. I love that.

I should also clarify that saying they'll overachieve is in no way meant to be derogatory. That's suggesting that they'll play better than the sum of their parts, which certainly isn't a knock on them. However, there are three or four teams that, on paper at least, are decent bets to be as good or better than the Mavericks in the West, giving them some stiff competition and quite feasibly keeping them around the 5th seed (and likely without homecourt advantage come Playoff time).

Like I said, I can see them being competitive and doing reasonably well, winning a healthy amount of games, picking up some big wins over elite teams to show they're not pushovers. However, I don't think they've got the roster to be a true contender this year and with the success other teams in the West are likely to have, they're not going to have particularly favourable Playoff position and will face a tough opponent in the first round, so I don't like their chances of going too far this year. That's still a long way from sucking or having a bleak future.

Anyone else who've seen the Alba Berlin vs. Mavs game yesterday? Much closer than what I've expected. Luckily they did better than the C's did recently.

Well it's the first game of the year, what did you expect :P

Re: The Dallas Mavericks Thread

Dirk and Kaveman did play well together with their two-man plays. Dirk also seems to be happy during timeouts chatting with Kaveman.
Beaubois got injured again in the game. Mavs should just cut him or trade him to Phoenix, brittle.
Mayo did well, I think he's the new player that could give more help to the Mavs.

For me it's gonna be Collison. It was refreshing to see someone so fast and can go to the basket.
Vince Carter will be huge on the bench, if Carlisle decided to give him the minutes the way he give Jason Terry.

What do you guys think of missing out on Deron? Personally, I think he would have been better off as a Maverick as the Nets seem to kindly fuck themselves up by overpaying everyone on their roster. And with Deron, trio of Dwight-Dirk-Deron the 3D was possible? Shark Tank cost all this? Or are the Mavs better off without Deron? What do Mav fans think?

http://www.hoopsworld.com/mark-cuban-mi ... -williams/

Mark Cuban was too busy filming a reality show to meet with one of the five best point guards in the NBA.

OK, OK — there are commitments and whatnot that need to be factored in here. But Deron Williams told New York reporters that Cuban’s absence from his negotiations with the Dallas Mavericks played a role in Williams’ decision to stay with the Brooklyn Nets.

From The New York Times:

Asked if Cuban’s absence affected his decision, Williams said flatly, “Of course.”

Williams added: “A lot of the questions that me and my agent had for them really didn’t get answered that day — you know, pertaining to the future. And I think if he was there, he would have been able to answer those questions a little bit better. Maybe would have helped me.”

Cuban gets pegged as meddlesome more often than absentee, but he was busy filing reality show Shark Tank when Williams met with his team executives. Shark Tank is about entrepreneurs and start-up businesses, and Cuban was a panelist. At least that’s what Wikipedia tells us.

This twist could serve as a rebuttal for those on the side of Nets owner Mikhail Prokohov in his running feud with Cuban. Most recently, there was this weird Nets.com thing for which no one is quite sure who was responsible.

Considered the best free agent available, Williams narrowed his choices to the Mavericks and Nets this offseason and would have filled a major void for Dallas. He averaged 21.0 points and 8.7 assists a game last season.

The Mavericks instead added Darren Collison to replace Jason Kidd at point guard. Collison’s fine. Really, he’s fine. He averaged 10.4 points and 4.8 assists a game for the resurgent Indiana Pacers last season. He can shoot, and he’s fast, and he’s smart.

But he’s not Deron Williams.

Re: The Dallas Mavericks Thread

It's BS. Cuban would actually be happy with D-Will on the squad and D-Will would have liked to be more pampered by Cuban... I mean, Collison is a nice addition but D-Will is IMHO the better playmaker.

Re: The Dallas Mavericks Thread

Tue Oct 09, 2012 9:17 pm

Deron Williams is just having regrets of not signing with the Mavs so he looks for someone to blame and Cuban happens to be a nice target.

Re: The Dallas Mavericks Thread

Even with rookie Deron this would be a BANGIN of a team in 2006.

It's sad how he missed 21 games after fracturing and dislocating his right ring finger against Denver last Feb.
