Hey, remember the ’90s?
Well if you don’t you’re about to get a rude awakening.
For the upcoming 2012-13 season the National Basketball Association and their Hardwood Classics program is set to honour the most experimental period, uniform-wise, in it’s history.
I'm sure a lot of people will cringe, but I still like a lot of those old designs and having grown up with that era, it'll be a nice touch of nostalgia. Hey, it can't be any worse than the Bulls wearing the mismatched red jerseys and blue shorts of the Chicago Stags from the 1940s.

It will be fun to see these loud jerseys this season. I hope I can see also the Pistons Grant Hill era jerseys.

I always liked pinstripes on a jersey, but that rockets jersey is ugly..

You're definitely in the majority with that view, but I for one have always liked it.

I think they should have brought back the championship era jerseys, like these:

I even like the raptors one more that those.
Wed Jul 25, 2012 12:41 am
Idk why but those Red Rockets jersey makes me think of Chinese national team jerseys at a glance.
Wed Jul 25, 2012 12:41 am
I believe they've worn those jerseys before on Hardwood Classics nights. Their secondary road jersey already kind of pays tribute to that era, too.
Wed Jul 25, 2012 3:07 am
The Hawks should really consider going back to this jersey for good. It's way better than the current jersey.
Wed Jul 25, 2012 7:39 am
Where are those ugly Grant hill era piston jerseys
Wed Jul 25, 2012 9:54 am
Love the old Raptors, Suns, and Hawks jerseys. Rockets ones aren't bad either.
Wed Jul 25, 2012 9:59 am
UPDATE (Jul 24/12 @ 13:29 ET): The apparent official Toronto Raptors Media account @RaptorsPR is claiming the Raptors will not be wearing this uniform in the upcoming season, it’s possible that these are then just jerseys adidas is producing for sale and nothing more? No words from any of the other teams listed as of yet…
Wed Jul 25, 2012 10:05 am
NOOOOOOOOO.........
I'm probably the only person sad about that.
Wed Jul 25, 2012 11:04 am
They should fine teams that wear anything from this era that has all the shit all over the front of the jerseys. Just a shameful horrific era.
I'll allow the Pacers ones, and maybe the Cavs ones if you pay me, but that's it.
At least in the 70s they had an excuse.

I'm serious about that snark. In the 70s some coked up moron son would say HEY WHAT IF LIKE THE BALL WAS LIKE FLYING ACROSS THE JERSEY and bam that's what you do as you flail about trying to kill the ABA. And they would respond WITH TWO BALLS FLYING. Back and forth.
Every single horrific jersey of the late 90s, Pistons, Grizzlies, etc. comes from the teams going to actual fashion designers (not even sports designers mind you) saying "make us some hip jerseys daddio" and the designers all said TEAL PURPLE GIANT UGLY "EMOTIONAL" IMAGES LINES LINES LINES OH LORD HIGH CULTURE WELCOME TO THE HOOP ORB.
It took a while before we realized they should only be simple and clean.
The USA Olympics organization however took this too far AND employed actual fashion people leaving us with Ralph Lauren making some nice fancy Nazi styled uniforms for the team.

If you like simple and clean too much, why don't you just ask NBA just play in their practice jersey, or make the jersey plain with colour and not thing else like Bulls just white and red, Heat just white and black,etc... Oh and why need the name on jersey, only number are enough. The team logo should be remove too, there're only 2 team on a court anyway right. You know what, we should remove the number too, look at player face is enough to recognize them, it will make the jersey simpler and cleaner. Actually why would we need a jersey? Just let players play with T-shirt and boxer, it would cut the expense on making jersey while just put on a team tag and we can still sell them as our "jersey". WOW, too much win!

If you're defending the late 1990s jerseys, I have The Hague on line one. So tread carefully.

Yes, I'm defending the 90s jersey. What is The Hague? And I don't need to tread carefully, I just stomp through.

I'm also a fan of (some of) those jerseys. It's better than a league in which every jersey looks almost exactly the same. I'd much rather have jerseys like this:

Than everyone wearing a jersey with one solid color on the front and back, another color down the side bordered by a third color, with the name of the team across the chest and the number on the stomach:

And okay, the NBA isn't
quite that bad, but I'd still rather see those Pacers, Jazz, Hawks, Suns, Cavs, and Raptors jerseys - and others along the same vein - than all these jerseys that look almost exactly the same.

Everyone is entitled to objectively bad taste.
It's okay, it's not like you're all getting put on a list...

You, sir, now are in an emotional condition called "Bad-sore loser". When you are about to lose in an argument, or all your reasons just invalid, or everyone just seem to be against you, you just lose your temple and blurt out everything come to mind at that time to confuse or create chaos to escape or just say something like "that doesn't matter when I'm so high and noble" to save face when actually your position is much more "in deep shit" than your opponent may ever be. In fact, that's just a very basic reaction of people to protect themselves from potential danger, which have take place in human mind in its evolution from monkey to human today, it's nothing to be ashame about but not to be proud about either, however in this state, everyone could see through your reaction and may take advantage on you or if you're lucky, pity on you. All in all, you are not in a good mental condition to continue to debate or argue and everything you say may be used to fight against yourself so I suggest you just calmly walk away and leave this battlefield to other. Go and enjoy something else until your cool come back.
Sincere,

Yeah, 'objectively'.
Some of them do go over the top, and there's a degree of preferring what I grew up with, but they've gone too far in the other direction now, IMO. The NBL is a worse case, because every team's jersey is designed by And1, who only bothered to do one design which was then used for all teams, but even in the NBA you have things like the new Bobcats jerseys almost directly copying the Mavs, team names, player names and numbers all tending to be in the same spot on the jersey in similar fonts, etc.

I'm not making it up. The Pistons, Grizzlies, Jazz and such jerseys were all designed by some fashion company. I forget the details, but I have a ESPN magazine somewhere that documents it.
The purples were supposed to show excitement. The teals and such movement. The Pistons jerseys were all about the highlights of the individual! And it was the hottest thing for mensware! NINTEEN-NINTEES! FORWARD INTO THE NEW MILLENIUM WITH FASHION!
Don't forget to grab your Walkman!
