The Brooklyn Nets have come to terms with the Atlanta Hawks on a multiplayer trade that will land them All-Star guard Joe Johnson in exchange for several players with expiring contracts, according to sources briefed on the discussions.
The Nets reached a handshake agreement with the Hawks, after talks between the teams all weekend, while officials from the Dallas Mavericks were meeting face-to-face in New York with Nets star Deron Williams, this summer's marquee free agent.
The deal as it stands, as reported Sunday night by ESPN.com, calls for the Nets to send the expiring contracts of Jordan Farmar, Johan Petro, Anthony Morrow and Jordan Williams along with DeShawn Stevenson (via sign-and-trade) and a future first-round pick (lottery-protected in 2013 via Houston) to Atlanta in exchange for Johnson. This trade construction allows the Nets to meet two of their key objectives, as they managed to keep promising guard MarShon Brooks out of the trade as well as retain their own first-round pick in 2013.

for me, i think getting johnson with his huge contract and giving that kind of amount is just too much consumption on nets cap space. how will they add big players with their now limited cap.

c'mon, if those JJ+crash deals would make dwill(the asst GM of nets) stay, PLUS a possibility(like their chances) of acquiring DH12, it's not fair to grade this moves down..and saying this is not a playoff contender?on a eastern conference where bulls(injured, and possible no drose this season), pacers lossing hibbert to portland?really?..tell me another team that has better overall back-court than the nets?..

if that's what your brain is telling you, no big deal..really, brooklyn nets are now being recognized..from being a lottery team, billy king+proky changed that in just about 1-2 years..

But overpaying two over the hill guys whom we probably already seen their best, I don't think was the best option. But as I said, it's an experiment that's going to be interesting. Even though, my honest opinion would be that they probably should have left the door more opened for Dwight as he specifically been crying out loud for the Nets. That's a legit superstar wanting your team, only.

BK then turned some of their *trash(petro?ammo?j.williams?j.farmar? c'mon..) into a PROVEN ALLSTAR w/ JJ(Joe never played w/ a great PG w/ the atl, compared before when he was w/ nash in PHX(the main reason why he had this superstar contract) where all he does is catch and shoot open shots, in atl he does almost everything on offense that's why they called him iso-joe) tho clearly his contract is not that good..also add the possibility of acquiring a TOP SUPERSTAR(uhm, dwight?) who clearly wants to play w/ deron in Brooklyn, since last season he never changed his mind of the possibility of going to the nets(and would only resign w/ them as his agent's exact words)..
ok, let's say, if BK didn't trade for crash, they have top6 pick ryt?w/c is still a ROOKIE(so dwill shall wait for him to develop into a lebron type of player?how long?),crash is (NOW)clearly alot more better than that, and is a proven allstar before.. didn't trade for JJ(for those bench players?w/ low BBIQ?petro? really..)..almost everyone in this league are overpaid(see the offer to dragic, lin, etc), you should overpay to get those quality players play for your team, it's a bidding war there..I mean those deals are necessary to make dwill(like other stars) happy and stay w/ brooklyn(see what happened to dallas, they take the gamble but eventually..)
'bout the recognition, this team clearly was the (should i say one of)laughing stock in the NBA after kidd/carter/RJ left them, 12-70 season? and playing in NY(new jersey&new york were just a river away) is like the 2 LA teams(look how clippers changed) and is really difficult, the bad media, empty arena, etc..now that they have a fresh start in brooklyn(no other sports' team there), fans out there are really exited having a team to cheer for. look all of the media when talking about DH12(nets are w/ his name), the resigning of dwill. clearly this team is now being recognized unlike before..
