The Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns have agreed to a sign-and-trade for Steve Nash, according to sources close to the situation.
The Suns will receive the $8.9 traded-player exception that the Lakers acquired when they traded Lamar Odom to the Dallas Mavericks as well as the Lakers’ first-round picks in 2013 and 2015 and second-round picks in 2013 and 2014.
The deal will become official on July 11, when the league’s moratorium ends.
The New York Knicks were attempting to acquire Nash, but sources close to the situation say the point guard preferred Los Angeles.

GO STERN PLZ VETO!!! we do not need another super team, If stern accepts than soon it wont be a 30 team league, it will be a 10 team league. #Keepthestarsapart !!!!

Stern shouldnt do Jack shit. Nash has every right to go to any team he wants. He has played so hard with scrubs for so many years and won many games. It is his decision, not anyone else's
Thu Jul 05, 2012 11:27 am
We can't blame Nash for that.

Lol at the OKC win total...
Thu Jul 05, 2012 12:27 pm
I think they can't veto this trade, or any other teams except hornets..NO's owned by the league(stern specifically)..
Thu Jul 05, 2012 12:31 pm
This is probably a better trade:
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7r3lmydDwight/Hill
Jefferson/Milsap
Durant/Hill/Ebanks
Kobe/Harden
Nash/Sessions
That's a pretty solid lineup. Might be able to add more help to punch up that bench with the MLE.
Thu Jul 05, 2012 12:32 pm
NO get sold, so no team is owned buy the league anymore, and I think Stern can still veto it. And what's up with PHX fans saying Nash slapped them in the face? It was their GM that traded him for 25-30 picks.
Thu Jul 05, 2012 12:33 pm
I don't think it helps LA get past OKC. If anything the Lakers got a lot slower and weaker on defense.
Thu Jul 05, 2012 12:42 pm
Lol. Those above who think Stern really could veto this trade, please calm down. Not only it's nearly impossible but Nash just simly could go walk and sign with the Lakers if he wanted to. PHX should be grateful to this true Canadian for everything he's done for the franchise. He gave them everything he's got during his tenure with the club and he's also leaving something worthwhile behind, for the team to look forward to.
As for his choice of the club, he made a safe one with the Lakers over the Knicks. Too many questions to be answered for the Knicks while the Lakers are more ready-team. Too bad though, it'll be hard for me to root for him since the Lakers aren't really likable to me much.

it's gonna be interesting in LA..'bout(kobe/nash) who will hold the ball, make plays..they would drastically improve w/ 2time MVP stevie tho..

Simply a fantastic deal for the Lakers, turning nothing into Steve Nash. Should they bring Howard in as well, that would just be insane; surely he'd want to stick around beyond this season, even if the Lakers aren't the "one team" he's referred to as wanting to sign an extension with.
Thu Jul 05, 2012 3:18 pm
Well according to Nash's agent he signed a three year deal. So I'm guessing he's looking to stay there to see how everything works out.

I was referring to Howard sticking around beyond this season, if he was to get traded to the Lakers.

Anyway. It's a great move by the Lakers. Now the should add some depth to their bench.
Thu Jul 05, 2012 10:25 pm
Lakers will never be in rebuild mode. Everything always works out a treat for them Lakers.
Thu Jul 05, 2012 11:01 pm
I like this move for the Lakers, even though I don't like the team that much. But still, I really hope in one of those three seasons Lakers are finally going to win that championship Nash deserves. I think though that most of the Suns' fans wanted another destination for Nash though, and not the Lakers... I'm curious to see as well how Kobe's scoring is going to improve with Nash dishing him next season. It's sure going to be a productive season for him, more than this year.
And if they manage to get Howard as well, they're going to be a really great team to watch!
