Maybe. After all, Kobe has been a great sidekick to two of the best bigs in their eras, in all of his journeys to the championship. And then steals all the credits from them and sends them somewhere else. It happened with Shaq, and is going to happen with Pau. Perhaps Dwight can join those greats as well.

Maybe, but I think there'd be a much better chance of it happening if he wasn't a point guard. If he were a big or offensive minded swingman, it'd be much more likely.

@WojYahooNBA: Knicks, Suns are in the critical stages of discussions on a sign-and-trade deal that would pay Nash $27M-$30M over 3 years, sources tell Y!
@WojYahooNBA: NY package would include Iman Shumpert, Toney Douglas and likely 3 low money players to get Nash salary needed to close gap on Toronto offer

Spencer Hawes has re-signed with the Philadelphia 76ers, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reports. His new deal is worth over $13 million over two years. Hawes was an unrestricted free agent, and appeared to be headed elsewhere just a few days ago when the Sixers re-signed Lavoy Allen.

why...?

I like that kid. He reminds me of Bryant Reeves the Big Country, perhaps a skinny version of him. Good signing, good, very good.

At the least, he'll finally win the NBA dunk contest.

Hopefully he can stick around, just for that. It's just a shame the format of the contest leaves much to be desired.

Wild offseason so far (or at least it officially will be, come July 11th).

The Oklahoma City Thunder has agreed with former No. 2 overall pick Hasheem Thabeet on a two-year contract.

The deal cannot officially be signed until the league's free agent moratorium period is lifted on July 11. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately known, but the contract, which will be fully guaranteed for both seasons, is believed to be a minimal salary, or roughly $880,000 in the first year of the contract.

In 135 games, Thabeet has averaged 2.2 points, 2.7 rebounds and 0.9 blocked shots.

All other offseason moves, both those that have been agreed upon and those yet to be hammered out, have officially been rendered irrelevant. ;)

Brandon Roy has reached a verbal agreement with the Wolves, according to a member of his family.

Roy confirmed the news to Dave 'Softy' Mahler of KJR in Seattle.

Roy's agent, Greg Lawrence, confirms that the deal is worth approximately $10.4 million over two years.

"I'm excited to be back," said Roy. "I'm a T-Wolf!"

Roy came out of retirement this summer.

Good to see him back. Hope he can stay healthy this time around.

76ers will sign Nick Young to a 1yr/$6M deal, amnesty Elton Brand ($16M left on his contract) in order to use the cap space.

Anybody have an idea why the Clippers would choose Jamal Crawford instead of Ray Allen? They had a better deal(as far as total money) for Allen than even the Celtics could offer, but they signed Crawford to an even bigger contract. I don't get it. Even letting Nick Young slip away was a dumb move. He have gave them some length defensively at the guard position and was pretty damn clutch in the playoffs.

I'm guessing they just didn't have a shot of signing him. He seems pretty keen on going to Miami.

Your probably right. Why go to an up and comer when you can go to a champion.

Brand's contract for next season is actually a bit over $18M.

I don't even understand what the Sixers are doing anymore. I like the signing of Young, we finally have someone other than Jrue who can shoot. And it means Lou Williams isn't getting re-signed (he announced that on his twitter). But if they wanted to amnesty Brand, they should have done so a year ago. Why would you amnesty such a huge, expiring contract you could move for someone valuable? We can suppose they want cap flexibility right now, but for what? So they can overpay someone like Humphries or Anderson? Or are they planning a trade where they take on bigger contracts?

Speaking of trades, let the Iggy trade rumour saga re-begin (for like the third time, at least). The Raptors are said to be offering DeRozan, Calderon and Ed Davis for Iggy and Vucevic. The way I see it, this makes no sense for Philly. DeRozan is a terrible fit, we have more than enough perimeter players with no range. We also have enough young bigmen who are still projects, we need someone to contribute right now beside them (no, Spencer Hawes is not that someone). Calderon would be nice as Jrue's backup and his contract is an expiring one, so that's not an issue. However, I wouldn't do this trade, because the assets we get aren't the ones we need for Iggy and we lose Vucevic as well. I feel like any Iggy trade that might happen would be done just for the sake of trading Iggy like he's some kind of retard. I don't think we can get anyone as good as him in return, which is why I'm not sold on the idea of dealing him at all. I'd rather trade Thad Young, assuming anyone would want him with that contract of his. He's still a young guy, after all.

Then again, we could as well re-sign Sam Young to have all the Youngs on our team.

The Hawes signing isn't that bad. 6.5 million on average of two years. If he sucks it's not a long term contract and it's not like he's being paid 10 million.

Re: 2012-2013 Offseason

Sat Jul 07, 2012 10:31 am

Yeah, the reasonable contract is the only good thing about bringing him back. However, that's not the inside presence we're looking for. We're still a competent bigman from being a top 3-4 East team, so... nothing new.
