I don't know, it still comes down to the team that's assembled.
Thibs is definitely a great coach, especially a great defense coach, but I think Carisle is somewhat underrated and due to his experience and achievements I'd give Carisle the nod. But Thibs is only at the beginning of his head coach career, so he still has a lot of time to climb the ladder.
Carisle is underrated as a defensive coach imho. The way he mixes in the zone defense helped the Mavs to win the title.

Well outside of Beaubois and Wright, they don't have any young players who will amount to anything. There's no one else I'd rather see coaching the Mavs (except maybe Popovich). He did a terrific job coaching the team to a title last year. He deserves as much credit as the players.

I swear if we don't keep Wright I'm going to kill someone. His potential is finally showing.. and pair him with Deron whew.

Seems like a solid move. What about Jason Terry? Would you keep him around?

He has potential yes but not as the starting center and with Dirk around he is suitable as his backup.

I would rather have Kidd.

If Deron signs, and it becomes clear that Dwight wants to follow him, that means Marion and Haywood have to go, and Jet probably would have to sacrifice too much money, because Deron and Dwight are max players. It's a real possibility and it's the main reason TC isn't part of the team right now.

Howard is signed through next season, so his future probably isn't going to be linked to D-Will's after all. Never say never I suppose, but it's going to be hard to orchestrate anything when one of them isn't a free agent for another year.
If Kidd isn't going to retire, can be kept cheaply and doesn't mind being a backup to Williams should he come to the Mavericks, that's a fine one-two punch at point guard even at this stage of Kidd's career.
Tue May 22, 2012 2:28 pm
The whole reason Cuban didn't keep TC was to make a run at Howard. I hope he hasn't given up on that idea, otherwise it means that they let TC go for nothing.

To make run to Howard and Williams. Since Howard will be in Orlando next season it has been since Williams or bust for the Mavs.

I think Kidd likes the idea of being Williams backup if he goes to the Mavs. He said so in a interview.

Corey Brewer in the last title run? Still with RC around I don't think Roddy B will get the minutes again. Unless Terry leaves.

Kidd has no problem with any role changes. It's the money that he wants. At least MLE money.

Will that kind of money hinders Williams with the Mavs?
Tue May 22, 2012 6:24 pm
It would somewhat. They also wouldn't have the MLE if they're under the cap, IIRC.

I wouldn't mind having Hibbert but he is a restricted FA and would hinder a chance at Deron.
And more tambourine smashing, foot stomping Dirk!
He comes at the 2:00 mark
Wed Jul 04, 2012 5:48 pm
So, with Deron choosing Nets over the Mavs. What's next then?
Thu Jul 05, 2012 12:01 am
Bobcatsville.
Thu Jul 05, 2012 2:31 am
Get Nash, then see what's left from there.
Thu Jul 05, 2012 3:22 am
I'm curious what's more likely, Nash joining Mavs or Lakers?
Thu Jul 05, 2012 3:36 am
Nash joining the Knicks.
Thu Jul 05, 2012 5:02 am
Seems like NY's chances are increasing, yeah, not looking good.

Scratch that, he's joining your Lakers.

If Howard is still going to be available next year, I suppose they just weather the storm, continue clearing cap space and make a run at him and some other pieces. Failing that, they might spend a year or two in the basement or just missing out on the eighth seed, but they'll at least have cap room to work with as they rebuild.

If Dirk decides he wants to be a Mavs for life. He should get angry at Cuban and Donnie and tell them to get their shit together and make the team competitive to get out of the first round.
Sat Jul 07, 2012 12:13 am
As I said in another thread, they've had a long string of very respectable to great seasons that have included two Finals appearances, a championship and several trips out of the first round along the way. They've reached a point where they are getting older, tough financial decisions have had to be made and they're probably going to drop off for a little bit. The 2011 championship was the team going as far as it possibly could, the culmination of the finest era in team history.
They'll have their chances to build anew, probably starting next year. The Lakers are about the only team in the league that manage to be perpetually competitive and not every team can send their core off into retirement with a fairytale ending. Hopefully for Dirk, the Mavericks will be able to re-group and at least be relevant for the last few years of his career. If not, well, they've had a really good run over the past decade or so.
Sat Jul 07, 2012 12:35 am
They won't be relevant this year if Cuban/Donnie don't sign anyone that is at least decent. Every Mavs fans was know that this year will be finally the chance that the Mavs will land a big one in the FA because of breaking that championship team (also the new CBA happen so I guess that was also the factor) but what happen? That was plan A and there is no plan B. We let the last season pass hoping that we get Deron and it's sad and frustrating that it did not happen.
Sat Jul 07, 2012 1:02 am
welcome to nba. they missed out on deron they missed nash and they wont get howard ever. i think they are still doing the right thing by not over paying the wrong guy just to say they made moves
Sat Jul 07, 2012 1:05 am
Look, the Mavs were bound to rebuild. people get mad that they broke up the championship team, look Mark did the right thing. He knew they would get overpaid a ton and would want to be overpaid. Sure Chandler would be nice, but not for a hefty price. I can think of teams that are just making when they rebuild worse (Celtics).
Anyway, pickup Sessions and Mayo, maybe a Randolph and a CJ Miles, resign West and your good imo.
