Joe Dumars on drafting Darko Milicic: ‘I look back on it now and realize you didn’t know half of the stuff you needed to know’

"I could give a dissertation on that," Dumars said shortly after selecting Drummond. "After I drafted Darko, from that point on, the amount of background we do on every single player that you see us draft is ridiculous. We do as much or more background than any other team in the NBA because of that.

Kim English could well end up being the best player the Pistons draft when all is said and done. He's a lights out shooter and should be a quality career role player. Drummond i'm not so sure on. Everyone thought he was gonna be the next best big man in the league coming out of high school, then he showed everybody that athleticism doesn't = productivity. He has the highest ceiling and the lowest floor.

I still remember when benji was convinced Joe Dumars made the right decision drafting Darko. Sure they won the championship the season after that draft, but can you imagine if they added Wade to the mix?

And he's on another team in three years because Brown wouldn't let him get on the court over Lindsey Hunter?

That Dumars thing is incredible, they basically didn't know shit about Darko other than the workout.

I still say he'd have been great if Brown didn't fuck him up the ass. There was no reason he should not have been playing 15 minutes a game during the season.
