Adding Jerseys

Postby jstewart335 on Thu May 17, 2012 6:57 am

Ok, I've figured out the process for the actual .viv .big etc... files. My question is with the teamgear.dbf
What do I need to add to it and where do I add it?
I've searched this forum and it looks like most people use DB Commander but I can't find any tutorial or specific instructions on how to just add 1 jersey without replacing the whole .dbf file.
anyway TIA!

you can also use excel or open office as well to edit the dbf files

to add a uniform, it would be good to look at an existing entry, copy it, and then modify as needed

also, this may help http://www.nba-live.com/nbalivewiki/ind ... ting_Guide
Opinions are my own.

1 more thing... How does the game recognize the jersey? I don't see anywhere in the .dbf file a label to link each specific jersey to a jersey graphic file.
Like a file name newshirt.viv or whatever.

To that end, you'll need to make sure that a new jersey file includes a team's four letter abbreviation.

For example, chicserd.viv contains the Chicago Bulls' (chic) alternate/secondary road (serd) jersey.

OK, I made some changes but 1st i'll explain my set-up
NBA Live 08 >> PC Version >> Win Vista >> Run as Admin
NLSC Roster 2011/2012 for NBA Live 08
I load the same roster file first, OK >> then I load my save file (Miami1) OK >>

Everything works fine until I edit the teamgear.dbf
I edit with MS Excell 2010

What I did was put the .viv and .big files in my C:\ProgramFiles\sgsm directory ... NOT the C:\ProgramFiles\EA\NBALive08 etc..
Then I open the .dbf from my Miami1 saves folder >>
I copy a line with Miami's team number (14) and paste it at the bottom. The only thing I change is 'ID' ... I just add one to the previous number 446 >> 447 >> 448 etc.
I also change the 'SHPNAME' to match the last 4 letters of the filename... like miamwhit.viv = whit

So here's what i'm left with...

FALSE 447 14 2 FALSE FALSE whit 2011-12 2 1644825 7872037 3026478 89 0 2 0 1 TRUE

I save the Excell file and change the extention back to .dbf
it just crashes... what's wrong?!?

BTW:: how to read .viv files to double check for team's four letter abbreviation? Excell doesn't open it.

TIA!!

That's what's wrong. You always need to read - and save - the file in dbf format (DBASE IV). If in doubt, use DB Commander instead. You can add a new row to a database in DB Commander by scrolling to the bottom and pressing the Down arrow key.

.viv files can be opened with the EA Graphics Editor.

yes, just a few days old... it's all great info but I still must be missing something because some of the jerseys still crash the game... I did get most to work though and the photoshop tutorial by AMenace helped a ton.
