No help from puddles either. :cheeky:

They're both garbage though, no one won that deal in the end. Somehow both teams lost.

I agree that they suck, but at least they are 5 years younger than Torres and can improve. Apparently we could have signed Fernando Llorente instead of Carroll at the time. Which would have been interesting as he is everything that Carroll supposedly has the potential to be. :(

We're being linked with Gaston Ramirez, Luuk de Jong and Rasmus Elm atm. Not the big names I'd have wanted, but they seem pretty decent players.

FA Cup final tonight.

Genuinely think we can win. We've beaten Chelsea the last 4 times we've played them I think and we always seem to play better in bigger games.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Carroll score the winner.

with the premier league ending soon, do they have some sort of playoff to determine the champion?

Re: General Football/Soccer Talk

Sun May 06, 2012 2:43 pm

At the end of each season, the club with the most points is crowned champion. If points are equal, the goal difference and then goals scored determine the winner. If still equal, teams are deemed to occupy the same position. If there is a tie for the championship, for relegation, or for qualification to other competitions, a play-off match at a neutral venue decides rank.

that's a bit anti-climactic isn't it?

Only if one team is miles ahead of the rest of the league.

To be champions you have to earn it over the entire season, not just get lucky in a one-off game.

Nope, was referring to the league in that post. We have playoffs in our league in Australia and it is pretty lame.

Messi has 72 goals this season, 50 in the league. It's insane that he is still only 24. He's averaging 52 goals per season in the last 4 years.

A, fair enough, my bad.

Messi has been a beast this season, like in every though. I still wonder about two things:

A. How Messi will play under the new coach.
B. How Messi will continue improving, and then play while representing Argentina.

Playing well for Argentina is the only thing he really has to still prove I think. He can't really get much better for Barcelona.

I don't know if much will change for Barca though as their new coach is from within their system and all their teams play the same way in all age levels.
We'll see I guess.

United vs. City ... Man ... I hope QPR can create a stunner .. or else we would be defeated by goal differential :shake: ... LAME win .. but I know CIty would take credit anyway coz they don't have much of those silverware not like US .. the red devils ...

Even if goal difference is the decider, you can't take anything away from them. Plus they beat you in both games this season, including a huge win at Old Trafford.

Re: General Football/Soccer Talk

Tue May 08, 2012 2:26 pm

They have beaten us twice in the EPL games ... but don't also forget that we eliminated them in the FA Cup and beat them in the charity cup ... so that's 2-2 in 4 games this season ....

We're talking about the league though, so those are irrelevant.

Slight revenge for the FA Cup last night. Chelsea can now only get into the Champions League by winning this year's final.

Essien is such a %#^@. This tackle could have easily broken Caroll's leg and he only got a yellow for it. Which also means that because the ref saw it he can't be punished retrospectively by the FA. :x

 I wouldn't say so.

That was the craziest finish to season I've ever seen. Both ends of the table.

City go from winning 1-0 to losing 1-2, then score two goals in injury time to win 3-2 and win the league.

Arsenal lead 1-0 against West Brom, then go 1-2 down, but end up winning 3-2 to secure 3rd spot.

I don't even care that Liverpool lost. I watched the City game instead.

Unbelievable finish...

Re: General Football/Soccer Talk

Dalglish has been sacked (or left by mutual consent as the PR people would say).

I think it's probably the right decision as there wasn't really any improvement over the season and no real game plan.
I don't really understand why Kenny changed the way we played this season after we did so well at the end of last season when he took over.

Roberto Martinez of Wigan is being linked...no thanks, but I would absolutely love to see Rafa Benitez return. :bowdown2:

Damn this waiting to see who our new manager will be is really annoying. There's a new rumour every day. Contradicting reports from media on opposite sides of the world. :?

Andre Villas-Boas, Rafa Benitez, Fabio Capello, Frank de Boer, Brendan Rodgers, Roberto Martinez have all been linked. Every day a different name is favourite for the job.

Louis van Gaal is being linked as a director of football too.

And now Pep Guardiola has come out and said that he might not take a year off if he gets a good offer. That's probably dreamland though. I'm sure if he is available Abramovich will give him dump trucks full of money to get him to Chelsea.

Hoping a decision is made soon so we can get on with our transfer plans and get a good pre-season done. (Y)
