New Jersey era comes to a close for the Nets

Tue Apr 24, 2012 10:31 am

The Nets play their final home game in New Jersey today, squaring off against the Sixers. Governor Chris Christie says good riddance, while a bunch of former Nets have been invited to take part in a ceremony. Jayson Williams, now out of jail, is not surprisingly not among them.

I still remember what it felt like when the Grizzlies were shipped to Memphis. I knew we were likely to never get a team back here. Some Nets fans probably are aware of it too. I feel for those true fans. But it's all about business at the end of the day. At least Russian owner had given the fans a notice unlike Heisley who promised and sang a national anthem so fans still would attend and root for the team untill the very last game, only to see the team go away right after.

Any Nets fans in New Jersey who are planning on sticking around will at least have it a bit easier though, not having so far to travel.

For future reference, trivia buffs: Armon Johnson scores the last point in a Nets home game to be played in New Jersey.

I went to this game too, 16$ for tickets 10 rows up.. Had a good time with my friends even though it was a blow out. Being from Jersey this is kind of sad, being that the Nets and Devils are our 2 only pro sports teams.. I wish them the best of luck in Brooklyn. By the way in the early 2000's when the Nets were contending, the environment was electric.
