nbajam android modding anyone?

Sun Mar 25, 2012 5:58 am

Hey guys, been a while. I saw the topic for nba jam for android here. I've been playing around with the files and it is somewhat customizable. I've been able to extract textures but haven't had success reinserting them yet. The spreadsheet for the roster is editable as well. I've reassigned players to different teams(jerseys remain the same however) and edit ratings. I was searching through the textures and found players not listed in the roster. I was able to add tmac, yao ming, demarcus cousins, and allen iverson into the roster. I thought some of you might be interested in exploring and modding the game. If anyone is interested I can post more info on what Ive found so far.

***edit***

The file path on your phone would be:
sd:/Android/data/com.eamobile.nbajam_sxperia_wf/res

I'll give a quick rundown of the important files:

1.NBAJAM_Players_CONSOLE.csv-This can be opened via Excel or any other spreadsheet program. It acts as the player/roster database file. Here you can edit ratings, assign teams, textures, and animation info.

2.NBAJAM_Players_Teams_CONSOLE.csv-This can be opened via Excel as well. This acts as the team database file. Team ID, info, court assignment, ect.

The rest of the files have generic extensions, but are accessible using either notepad or an archive program such as winrar or 7zip. Navigate to the files in the program or rename the file to filename.zip

3.0 file-Can be opened using notepad. Seems to act as a listing of the assets used by the game.

4.a file-Can be opened in winrar. An archive containing audio for the game. Audio is in .caf format

5.g file-An archive containing player texture file, opened using winrar. Textures are in .pvr format

6.ga file-An archive containing animation files, open via winrar as well. Animations are in .anim format.

7.i file-Opened using winrar. An archive containing menu art and animation files, loading screens, as well as player portraits. loading screens and portraits are in .png format.

These were done editing the NBAJAM_Players_CONSOLE.csv. I added players back into the roster, perhaps removed after an update because the texture files remained. I put Lebron back on cleveland by assigning his textures to Jamison.

The textures are in .pvr format which is compressed .png I believe. They can be decompressed using PVRTexTool, found here:
http://www.imgtec.com/powervr/insider/powervr-pvrtextool.asp

I have been able to extract and edit the textures, but have not successfully reinserted them into the game. This is what I got so far:

This is where I'm stuck, testing different encoding options within the program and hoping to get lucky. Lol So close.

iOS versions are nicely editable as well, but I'm not going to jailbreak my devices for it

That's pretty cool, I'd be interested to see what you come up with. (Y)

Tried a few things and I've been able to extract textures and rename them or just replace the originals and rebuild the archive and everything work fine. That narrows down the problem to formating and compressing the images. Got to do more investigating.

tried an new program called texture packer, it's only a trial version and watermarks the textures with words and red tint....but

Success? Might need to purchase the liscence to see for sure.

Looking at my log, files are compressed with zlib.

I have nbajam on my EVO 4G, but it crashes on my EVO 3D. I really want it working on my 3D since it will run smoother and the screen is a higher resolution. I found a file called override which contains data on overriding resolutions for specific devices. From what I read, I would have to change data in the APK, though.

Got it working, I'll get some pics up in a lil while when I get to the laptop. Much easier than I thought, was overthinking things majorly.

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Ratings, yes. Names, not yet. Going to do some fiddling with the roster file to figure out how.

Yeah, the same files on android as well. I'm home sick, may find a solution with my free time today lol.

No luck with names guys, when I try to change them it crashes at the menu...There must be a different place to change them that I haven't found. (There's a file called res.dat that I haven't been able to open, sound familiar?) When I restore some of the removed players the name comes up as a blank space in game. So I've assigned Jordan and Barkley's textures to Randy Foye and Jermaine O'neal's Player ID and successfully changed their portraits and ratings as well. Just no names though. Thinking of doing Reggie Miller and a self mod perhaps. The jerseys appear to be almost hand drawn, may try one hires one just to see if it's an upgrade or not noticable.

I just ran across this thread. Pretty amazing. Anyone know what programs were used in the end? The modified States he was overthinking it. I would love to add MJ along with motumbo, Reggie Miller and others to this game.

Thanks

As for images outside of google for those players, you might try getty images, amazon or even facebook. I saw Colorado images for Kareem with hair on his face book page.
