That's still not too shabby, better than getting a haul of inappropriate gifts. They say it's the thought that counts but it seems to me that getting someone something they don't like/aren't into isn't putting much thought into the matter. With that in mind though, sometimes cash or a gift certificate is the best way to go.

I've really never understood gift certificates. They're the exact same thing as money, except with limits on where and when you can spend it.

Didn't get very much this Christmas but it's not like I wanted much in the first place. Only noteworthy present I got was an Eternity Cologne/Aftershave set from my mom, and the rest was clothes. Some of my family members didn't know what to get me and since I have a job, they believed they didn't have to get me anything.

it's a gimmick stores use to take advantage of lazy people. it's even better because most stores don't accept returns on gift certificates as opposed to an actual item, so your money is gone

I understand it from the store's point of view, I just don't understand why anyone would ever buy one.

I suppose in some respects it's seems a little less crass than cash and kind of half-select a present for someone in one of their areas of interest without making an unsuitable choice. If you know someone likes to buy a lot of DVDs or CDs, a JB Hi-Fi voucher can be put to good use and looks a bit nicer in a card. Not that I've ever been offended by receiving actual cash but there are some who mind find it coarse, so the gift card is probably a matter of etiquette as much as anything else.

There's also prepaid Visa and EFTPOS cards that are essentially gift cards for pretty much anywhere. Again you might say you might as well give cash and that's a fair call but I still think it comes to making the gift look a little nicer, a little less "Oh, just throw some money in a card"...even though you're still essentially doing that. As I said I don't mind either way, gift card or cash, I appreciate the thought and know I can put it to good use.

Apparently, I had the chance to drop by a hobby store last night and bought this: Pardon my love for Japanese robots.

Then with my jackhammer-precise hands, I will turn that ^ into this:

Also, could have bought that Rockman Zero scale model. :shake: I'LL BE BACK FOR YOUUUUU!

1) Why does the robot have a vagina?
2) What's a Tall Geese? Never mind the II and the III.

That is not a vagina it is a super penis hole.

About gift cards, go to the grocery store and get a universal one. They are like pre paid credit cards.

1. Maybe a penis and vagina in one. Who knows if this is made to be a hermaphrodite. If you want I can mod that and have the hole patched OR have the hole some sort of "extension" :cheeky:

2. No backstory for the robot's name... :(

like andrew said i think it's a bit different to give cash. in my family, it's something that's done all the time but for most i would assume they still want a gift & something to unwrap plus the gift giver is pretty much admitting they didn't know what to get if they give cash

Exactly. Gift cards also say that but to a slightly lesser extent because they can be specialised and based on someone's interests and shopping habits. Online vouchers for iTunes, Amazon and the like also offer more convenience than giving someone cash, if you know they like to buy through those channels fairly regularly.
