Kyrie Irving was on target from the opening tip, as he scored 21 points in the first quarter, getting to the line 11 times in the period and had racked up a career-high 39 points when the final whistle blew. The Heat won 107-102, despite leading by 20 points late in the third quarter.

Ray Allen had just come out and said he will be retiring at season's end and dropped a season-high 40 points.

Chris Bosh and Irving combined for 32 of the Heat's 36 points of the opening period, getting to the line 18 times combined, making all of the freebies. Jermaine O'Neal and Kevin Garnett were in foul trouble, both picking up 3 fouls in the quarter.

The Celtics made necessary adjustments and forced the Heat to more perimeter shots as the visitors got to the line just 13 times in the last three quarters, but couldn't contain Irving.

Irving had 25 points at the half and faced tough pressure from Rondo in the third, but he still toyed with the All-NBA defender, starting to get Gay and Wade more involved. Wade scored all of his points in the second half.

As the Heat led 94-74, the Celtics put together a 28-9 run to narrow their deficit to just 3 points, 105-102. Kyrie Irving turned the ball over and the Celtics called a time-out with 14 seconds left.

The Celtics inbounded to Ray Allen, who penetrated the paint and went for a lay-up, only to be turned back by Serge Ibaka. Kyrie Irving then hit two free throws and sealed the HEAT's victory.

The Heat and Celtics will face off tomorrow as well, this time in Miami.

Kyrie Irving didn't have 39 points this time, but Rudy Gay chipped in 30 and Jimmer Fredette provided a spark with 16 points and the HEAT won their second straight game against the Celtics, 107-99.

The HEAT started off quick behind Wade and Bosh and built a 16-7 lead, but the Celtics went to Kevin Garnett early and often and didn't let the game get out of hand and stayed in the game throughout the first half.

Garnett had 18 in the first half, but the HEAT held a 10-point half-time lead. Rudy Gay had 14 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks in the first half.

In the third quarter, the Celtics made a run. Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo went to work and trimmed the lead down to 2 points with 3 minutes left in the third. James Jones missed a shot and the Celtics had the chance to take their first lead of the game.

They succeeded, as Shane Battier knocked down a three-pointer as the shot-clock expired. Spoelstra called a quick time-out and surprisingly subbed in their second unit - Chalmers, Fredette, Jones, Haslem and Anthony.

The revamp was a success as Jimmer Fredette and James Jones made 4 three-pointers (Jimmer 3, Jones 1) in the final 2 minutes of the period and the HEAT still held a 5-point lead after three quarters.

Fredette had 16 points in 12 minutes.

As the starters returned with 8 minutes left in the fourth, they wrapped things up and didn't let the Celtics closer then 8-points when Nate Robinson made a shot at the buzzer.

Yup, 7.5 turnovers in the 2 games. Still getting used to him doing most of the ball-handling, last season it was LeBron and Wade and their handling is off the charts (though I did have 14 turnovers with LeBron one game).

Trade Galore Saturday

Despite Dwight indicating early in the season that he is ready to sign an extension, the talks between him and Orlando ran into a halt. Sources revealed that Dwight wanted a change in Orlando, but the management hadn't made any moves to improve their roster.

Howard slowly became frustrated with Orlando sticking with their core players and not making any significant moves. Until tonight.

The New Jersey Nets and the Orlando Magic have agreed on a deal to send Dwight Howard to the Nets for Brook Lopez, Jeremy Tyler, Shannon Brown and the Nets 2013 1st round pick.

The Lakers were also in the hunt for Dwight Howard, but the two sides failed to reach an agreement.

The Lakers meanwhile improved their biggest weakness - the PG position by acquiring 7-time All-Star and 2-time MVP Steve Nash and the #8 pick Will Sit from Phoenix for Lamar Odom, Steve Blake, Josh Selby and Devin Ebanks.
