Sony PS Vita

Anybody interested in getting one when it comes out?

It's intriguing for me since I commute to and from work everyday so I got at least half an hour of available gaming time each way (which I don't have at home). Currently I play Nintendo DS Lite on the train and get by with turn based RPG strategy games. But my passion is sports gaming and I hope that the PS Vita can have PS3 quality sports gaming titles, namely FIFA and NBA 2K series. I'm not just talking graphics wise, but also physics and full Manager/Association modes. If it could link in with PS3 and let you continue playing games that would be even better.

All that being said, I likely wouldn't be willing to pay premium price for it when it comes out, but may consider it within a year of release once price drops slightly and sports gaming titles increase (and hopefully prove to be good).

I reckon its unwise to keep developing portable gaming consoles that don't also serve as phones and mp3 players.

I believe one of the past NBA Live series had PSP->PS2 or PS3 cross compatibility. So you could play association games on your PSP and then send it over to PS2. It didn't work so great as the PSP version sucked. Might just be really high though..

With the rise of smart phones, casual gamers have absolutely no chance of even considering a dedicated portable gaming platform. Much like the PSP, I can't see this becoming the next big thing, there will be good games, but they will be few and far apart, again much like the PSP. Personally I think it's a bad move by Sony. The price hit per console they're going to have to take to make it a competitive product is going to be even worse than when the PS3 launched.

^ Exactly. I probably play video games too much to be considered a casual gamer but the portability is moot if I still have to bring my phone (which, while having worse games has the games I'd actually play on the bus - like Words with Friends or Bubble Buster, as opposed to Uncharted PSP: The Cursed Glare).

I'd be very surprised if the Live thing was true, as the PSP version of Live 09 I tried resembles a PSP title in graphics, features and gameplay. Gran Turismo has a similar feature though, and I'm sure that'll be one of their desperate selling points.

On the bright side, Nintendo also decided to make a portable gaming console in this day and age.

I believe volsey is correct, I vaguely recall some compatibility with at least one of the Lives (possibly NBA Live 07). I do know that one of the Smackdown vs RAW games from THQ required the PSP version to unlock Jake Roberts in the PS2 version, a concept I didn't much care for. Action Replay ultimately solved that matter for me.

Looks cool but I have to admit I've never been big on handheld gaming, even back in the day I never had a Gameboy. Aside from mobile games, I just stick to PCs and consoles.

If games are identical to ps3 then it could be worthwhile for me. If I didn't catch train everyday then I wouldn't bother.

I agree they should incorporate phone capabilities
