His rap album or the game? No worries, Lean. The game will end, eventually.

I bet this game is going to have a shit load of bugs. Just saying.

*cough* Oblivion *cough*

Most of the time when I rave about a game, they end up being crappy or with a lot of content cut out.

It will surely be buggy like Oblivion and Fallout 3, but ultimately I don't think it'll matter to most gamers (at least not to me), this is just going to be fucking epic.
On a side note, I'm already starting to regret buying it off Steam, I've never had such a slow connection pre-loading any other game with them. It's at a crawl right now, at least 10 times slower than usual so I can't even imagine how many peeps must be doing the same thing right now...

Ditto. I am still crossing my fingers that melee combat won't have "sliding mechanics".

I want those chickens to report my crimes so I can get revenge.

Does it really matter if you finish downloading the game 3 days before release? You can always try changing your location in steam which I read can fix connectivity problems by connecting to a different steam server.

Right, I guess it really doesn't matter that much. In any case, the connection picked up at some point and I just finished downloading it.
With the time difference here, it looks like the game should be available to unlock e a couple a couple of hours before 11/11/11, so around 10pm here. My main concern is having to keep on leading a normal social life after this is released, it's gonna take some serious willpower. :geek:

Just try to limit yourself to 2 hours a day after the first week.

Waiting for this from Gamefly - will either get this or Uncharted 3 first. Have a feeling I'm going to get bored an hour in, but hopefully its more like Fallout and the world can suck me in this time.

Do not buy the game(skyrim) on release, wait a few weeks or months, this way the game will be stable online and would have had many new features added to it.

Fools. It doesn't have an online mode.

Just found this list of the entire Skill Tree, not really sure if these are the 'perks' of the game.
Pretty standard I'd say, most of them were automatic 'perks' in Oblivion which were unlocked when a skill reached a certain level.

http://www.gameranx.com/features/id/361 ... ree-guide/

Anyways it made me think of the character I'm going to create. Usually I'd prefer a Nord and load up on blade, destruction, sneak, pretty standard. I've always wanted to create a completely mage type character and can't decide whether I should give it a try this go around.

So I thought I'd ask you guys, what type of build are you going to make? Good, evil, mercenary? Mage, melee, or mix? What skills are you guys going to focus on increasing?

Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

A mage-melee mix perhaps. Or just a warrior with a healing spell ready. Destruction is an automatic to me.

Conjurer-illusionist if I can. Going to try something different than the usual battle-thief I usually make.

In most RPGs, I do a first playthrough as a good guy, and then a second one being a prick to everyone. I never completely focus on one type of skills only, but I'll probably do a first character specialized in destruction and melee, then a second one in magic and possibly theft.

Less than 3 hours left till it's unlocked...

Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

IGN is giving it a 9.5, and Gamespot a 9.0. As expected, some bugs come to spoil the fun, but the game appears to be fucking mindblowing otherwise.

EDIT: decrypting the files as I'm typing this.
There's apparently an issue with vsync being forced on by default, so to disable it, do this:
To disable VSync in Skyrim, add iPresentInterval=0 to the bottom of the [Display] section of the Skyrim.ini file in the \Users\[Username]\My Documents\My Games\Skyrim directory.

First impressions (playing at 1920x1080, with everything to max):

The game is pretty, but it's not phenomenal looking either. In any case, it's certainly a nice upgrade from the original Gamebryo engine. The character movements still feel a bit awkward (although a billion times better than Oblivion or Fallout 3 if using 3rd person view), some of the physics are clunky and the shadows are ugly. Like in Oblivion, distant lands are quite "soupy", although not as bad. FOV is not very optimized for 16:9, should be wider but I'm sure it's an easy fix with all the options in the .ini files.

Hitting a foe doesn't really feel as it should, because there is barely any recoil, the enemy doesn't seem affected and there's only a bit of blood splatters to indicate that you're hitting him/her.

There a fair amount some mouse lag, and the fix that I suggested above actually seems to make it worse, so changed it back to the default setting for now (with vsync enabled). There is a bit of stuttering though.

The on-screen hints don't seem to adapt to any changes you may make to your controls, so it instructs you to use default keys that you may have changed and it took me forever to figure out how to drop items from the inventory...Speaking of which, the inventory is now much simpler but very cool, and you could see and rotate anything that you have in it.

I got a first crash to desktop after almost 40 minutes in...

Not 100% convinced for now, but I'm sure that a few hours in it will suffice to make me addicted again.

Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

I've put in quite a few hours, and only had one crash. I have come across a few glitches, or bugs, but nothing game-breaking. I do find quite a bit of juddering when panning the camera in certain cities (Solitude & WhiteRum specifically), I've tried lowering AA and some other settings thinking maybe the game was too much on my system, but no difference.

This game is ridiculously hard to put down. Always one more dungeon, one more side quest. I love how the NPC's react to things you've done. Upgraded to a magical Elven bow and some guards start saying " oh an archer, well to each his own". Smithing is surprisingly fun, mining ore isn't but it's a good way to make quick coin. I found a spell that changes iron ore to gold ore in the same cave that had probably 10+ iron ore deposits. Got a shitload of ore, changed it to gold, make golden necklace, profit.

Personally I really like the combat, favorite menu is key, (on PC definitely helps to use Xbox gamepad), and the finishing moves, while random, are exciting to see. Archery, which I never ever like in any game, is actually fun in this game, can be quite powerful when you're hidden.

Poison your arrows yet?

Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Playing a Nord male and trying to be a good guy right now, I must be 5-6 hours in already. I fixed some of the things that were bugging me (FOV, key remapping) and added some of the nice mods that are already out there (mainly texture replacements), and I haven't experienced any other crash since the 1st time.
Goes without saying that this is addictive as hell, it's just ridiculously good. :bowdown2:

Would you guys say having an interest in magical/mythological type topics is vital to having a lot of fun in this game? Idk how much Im gonna get immersed in the magic and wizardry stuff. Although I can tell would be an amazing game if you are into that type of stuff. But what about people who arent? Would they still enjoy this game simply due to how immersive it is?

Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Mon Nov 14, 2011 2:31 pm

I'm not particularly into wizardry or any similar crap but this goes way beyond that, it's as immersive as it gets and in case you play other types of RPG (The Witcher, Mass Effect) or FPS with RPG elements (Dead Island, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.), I really don't see how you wouldn't enjoy that one. That game is absolutely fantastic.
