Epic Shows That Died Too Soon

Really, this thread should be about Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn. But you can mention crap like Firefly, King of the Hill, Reaper, The Goode Family, MST3K, The Good Guys, Better Off Ted, etc.

Too bad the quality of nearly every YouTube clip is so bad or I'd post more.

Aww who cares.

Can you believe that Comedy Central wanted them to tone down the "racial topics, politics and vulgarity"? And felt the show was redundant because they already had The Daily Show?

Thankfully, Red Eye w/ Greg Gutfeld is, despite being sanitized and increasingly unfortunately more professional/serious, in some respects a version of it that has often had the same people on. (Jim Norton, RIch Vos, Greg Proops, etc.) And probably part of why I took to that show so easily. Plus often the same strange topics.

King of the Hill had a pretty good run. It deserved to go out with more fanfare but I think it ended at a good time for a long runner, before it got too stale, covered familiar ground all too often and wandered too far away from what made it a success.

If we can bring shows that never got a chance into the discussion, I'd nominate Lookwell, created by Conan O'Brien and Robert Smigel, starring Adam West. The pilot:

This is a no brainer for me: Freaks and Geeks. Amazing show that was well written, funny and at times, quite moving... not to mention that it had an excellent cast. Died out during the reality tv boom.

Ah yes, definitely Freaks and Geeks. (Y)

Agreed for Better Off Ted, Reaper and The Good Guys, would have liked to see much more of those.

The movie just wasnt enough. With the time to build it up and really establish the 'verse? Epic for all time

Arrested Development, Better off Ted, Dead Like Me, Greg the Bunny, Pushing Daisies

i heard firefly was a time travel sort of show, like Journeyman on NBC. my roommate and i were fans of it and nbc expected more success from it with Heroes as the lead-in

we also liked New Amsterdam on fox. pretty awesome story about this dude that was immortal and saw New York City grow and change over time.

did anybody watch Flashforward on ABC? i thought it was pretty good but it suffered from the break in the season

I watched freaks and geeks earlier this year and was quite saddened because i loved it but knew there was only 1 season. Biff Tannen ftw

It's sad that Freaks and Geeks got one season, but I think the way it ended was a really nice touch. Another show I watched (and I'll probably cop a little for this) name Popular got cancelled right after a cliff-hanger.

Daniel Desario (James Franco) was probably my favourite character in Freaks and Geeks, but they were all great in their own particular ways.

Gorram I hate when people use words from shows.

Same thing happened to Kyle XY. It aired months after the US here, so I knew it was coming, but it still sucked.

I'm usually not a fan of endings that are too open but given the circumstances and the way it was done, I'd have to agree. It worked for that series, it's just a shame it came to that.

I'd also have to mention The Critic. A very good, possibly underrated series that could probably hang with the rest of the top animated shows these days. It had cutaways that put Family Guy to shame.

The Critic was awesome, and got a second life on an entire separate network. A top tier comedy forever. There's a reason it's my youtube avatar: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsmzxNm7fVA

Jurassic Park 2: Revenge of the Raptors was one of my favourite parodies.

Another show I loved that got cancelled was Veronica Mars. It was kind of a concept that wasn't going to last forever, but it was still a fun show nonetheless and it got cut without tying up any loose ends.

Deadwood for sure. Had they had a fourth season to conclude the story, it would have gone down as one of the best shows ever

Watched Dilbert again because. One of the greatest animated series of all time. Should be a law that people have to watch it.

Guess I'll watch Kitchen Confidential just because it's on the same disc as the last of Dilbert.

Rocko is being tempting. It has been five years since I last watched that epic awesomeness. Which was like a decade or more since I had seen it before.

The Critic is in this same book, so much temptation.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who enjoyed the Dilbert animated series. Picked up the DVD set a few years back. The Critic is always good to dust off as well.

I have to second Freaks & Geeks, though Undeclared was the spiritual successor to it, and after starting out great, got kind of shitty towards the end of its only season.
