Haha, that's funny. Clips stood ZERO chance against the wrath of Kevin Martin and punishing inside game of Yao. Plus, Gordon was shooting 2/15 before he got injured, so Lowry pretty much did you guys a favor taking that shot-chucker out of the playoffs.

Thibbs will have his chance in the coming seasons. Like the REAL K-Mart said, Adelman has gone through a bunch of shit in Houston so finally he gets rewarded for it. Hard to coach a team to near-perfect efficiency like Adelman.

(1) Houston Rockets vs. (3) Dallas Mavericks

The Western Conference Finals will take place in Texas. Both cities, when driving, are just a few hours apart. Both teams are as evenly matched as they are geographically close. Both teams are known for offensive efficiency, both teams have an underrated defense that can force turnovers and bad shots from opposing teams, and both teams have a coach named Rick (on a sidenote).

The last time both teams faced off in the playoffs was in 2005, where Dallas knocked off Houston in seven games. After Houston had gotten off to a good start winning the first two games on the road, they unfortunately could not come out on top getting blown out by 40 points in the seventh game. Yao Ming is sure to have that in the back of his mind going into this series, and is probably seeking revenge. Here, he is presented the ultimate opportunity, especially after defying the odds of him having a successful season.

Both teams have had a somewhat easy road to the Conference Finals. Houston mauled both the Los Angeles Clippers and the San Antonio Spurs losing just one game in the process, while Dallas tore apart the Utah Jazz, but hit a bit of a bump against the Oklahoma City Thunder. They prevailed nonetheless, and now, we find ourselves looking at a highly anticipated Texas showdown. Both of these teams have a chance to bring another NBA title to Texas.

Keys to the Series

Dallas and Houston have a marquee scorer who can light it up if you give them the tiniest chance to do so. Dirk Nowitzki and Kevin Martin will have to bring their A-game in scoring, as Martin himself said once, they're the two best scorers in the NBA. Both players will absolutely be hard to stop. You can preach contested jumpshots all you want, but they will make any kind of difficult shot and make it look easy. Nowitzki averaged 29.7 points on 54% shooting in the regular season, while Martin averaged 28 points on 52% shooting in the regular season. Now, in the playoffs, Martin is averaging 30.6 points on 52% shooting, while Nowitzki is averaging 25.5 points on 54% shooting.

Meanwhile, Yao Ming has had it easy scoring in the playoffs so far. He will have his hands full being guarded by Dallas' seven-footers Tyson Chandler and Brendan Haywood. The size advantage is still there, but nothing will come easy as they are both legitimate post defenders, and you can also add the double-team. Dallas' team defense is excellent, as they know how to rotate over to open shooters after a double-team which limits the easy looks given to teams. This is where the 7'6" center's playoff experience and instincts will come into effect.

Both teams know how to flat out score the basketball, they have efficient shooters, great ball movement, and excellent coaches to call the shots. This is where the series will most likely be won. Both Dallas and Houston were tops in field-goal shooting and three-point shooting in the regular season. It will all come down to who can make their shots.

Last but not least, comes the role players. Houston has Kyle Lowry, Courtney Lee, Patrick Patterson, Terrence Williams, and Chase Budinger who can come off the bench and give a huge scoring punch on any given night. Dallas has Shawn Marion, DeShawn Stevenson, Rodrigue Beabouis, and JJ Barea on their side. Bench points will also play a crucial role in the series.

Regular Season Series

November 29, 2010 - HOU @ DAL 103-79
Houston delivered a blowout to the Dallas Mavericks on their own home floor. Kevin Martin led the charge with 22 points, 2 rebounds on 7/14 shooting, and Luis Scola contributed 20 points and 13 rebounds shooting 8/13 from the field. Courtney Lee scored 12 points and 2 rebounds off the bench shooting 4/5. For Dallas, Caron Butler had 19 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals (7/18 FG), Jason Terry also had 19 on 8/19 shooting. Dirk Nowitzki struggled with 11 points, 8 rebounds, shooting just 3/16 from the field with 7 turnovers.

January 27, 2011 - HOU @ DAL 110-89
Once again, the Rockets mauled the Mavericks at Dallas. Kevin Martin dropped 32 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists, shooting 14/23 from the field. Luis Scola shot 8/10 en route to 18 points and 5 boards. Aaron Brooks and Yao Ming both contributed double-doubles of 17 points, 11 assists and 14 points, 10 rebounds respectively. For Dallas, Dirk Nowitzki's 30 points (15/25 FG) and 8 boards was not enough as only Caron Butler supported him well with 23 points, 5 boards and 3 assists. Jason Terry had a horrible night scoring 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists, shooting 5/19 from the field.

February 12, 2011 - DAL @ HOU 89-117
Despite Dirk Nowitzki's 33 points and 14 boards, Dallas was once again mauled by the Rockets. Kevin Martin had a team high 28 points shooting 11/15 from the field, and Aaron Brooks scored 23 (on 7/12 shooting), grabbed 5 rebounds and dished out 6 dimes. Yao Ming also had 14 points (5/7), 7 boards and 3 blocks. Caron Butler and Jason Terry scored 15 and 14 respectively, Butler grabbing 5 boards and 3 steals. The Rockets claimed the season series with this victory.

April 11, 2011 - DAL @ HOU 98-96
Dallas came back from behind to barely edge out Houston on the road by two points. Dirk Nowitzki had 30 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks, while Jason Terry was not far behind with 28 points, 2 assists, and 3 steals. Caron Butler also had 15 points and 8 boards. For the Rockets, Kevin Martin had 29 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists, while Luis Scola had 22 points and 8 boards. Yao Ming also contributed 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Well, irl, that same roster won just 17 games despite having the MIP, so in a 2K game, you'd expect them to get just 25-30 wins at best. The rest had to have been Don Nelson.

Chapter 17 - Fixing Revelation

"At the start of the fourth quarter, this has been a lopsided game in Houston's favor. Mark, what do you think has gone wrong with Dallas?" asked Mike Breen during ESPN's broadcast of Game One of the Western Conference Finals. "Plain and simple, the Mavericks are not making shots. Dirk Nowitzki is shooting very poorly, missing shots that he usually makes, and also, they can't hit anything from outside. Barring a huge miracle, the adjustments that need to be made we will see in action for Game Two," Mark Jackson replied.

"And it's also the fact that Kevin Martin has ripped the Mavericks apart. He had 22 points at halftime, 28 going into this quarter. He has only missed five field goals, shooting 10/15. I don't think you could ask for a better start to the series," Jeff Van Gundy said.

"Where the hell is Axel at?" said Rockets' owner Leslie Alexander, who was watching the game in the front row alongside Daryl Morey. "He asked me to buy him a ticket for the game, and yet he doesn't show up? What a waste of my money. His seat is the only empty one I've seen so far."

"I don't know, but I hope he's watching on TV somewhere. That way, he knows what it's like for a GM's assets to succeed. This has been a great game," Morey replied. "To you, everyone's an asset, Daryl. I bet even Axel himself is an asset to you," Alexander replied.

"Of course. I see a lot of potential in him. He could possibly end up making a move in the future that further solidifies the dominance of the franchise, but not before I approve it first," Morey said, smiling. "Oh yeah, he owes me a beer, too, so he better show up for the fourth quarter or else," Morey added.

Meanwhile, at a secret warehouse in New York, a meeting between a few mysterious individuals was going on in a long rectangular table. They were watching the game on a big screen TV, and were not happy with the result. "I guess we will need some outside interference to be able to shift this series to our favor. The Houston Rockets can not win this series and go to the NBA Finals. Something must be done," said a mysterious dark figure, which appeared to be the leader. "Joey, you must make sure that the Rockets lose Game Two."

"But boss, I'm not an official for that game, what am I supposed to do?" asked Joey Crawford, confused. The mysterious figure was on his phone as he complained, hung up, then said, "That's already been taken care of. You will fly to Houston for Game Two, and one way or another, make sure Dallas takes it. I've bet a lot of money on this series, and of course, there's some personal matters to be taken care of."

As they spoke, the conversation was being recorded by another mysterious figure standing on the second floor of the warehouse, looking down upon the rectangular table. He was apparently a spy, sneaking in through the sun roof of the warehouse to try and gather information and put a stop to the gang's plans. He had gathered enough information, and was now trying to get a picture of the boss to see who it was. It was too dark, as all he had were pictures of a dark blob sitting on a chair. Taking the risk, he turned on the light of his camera, and began to snap away.

After getting a few decent pics, all the men at the table looked up, and saw him. "IT'S HIM. IT'S AXEL!!!" the boss yelled, and a huge scramble began as all the men began to take out their weapons to shoot down the spy.

"Shit!" Axel exclaimed, and made a run for it. He jumped down the stairs and as he made a dash for the exit, a flood of bullets began to fire at him, many missing him by inches.

Axel took out his smoke bombs, activated them, and threw them one-by-one all over the warehouse. What came next was a bunch of coughing, scrambling, and many yelling out "Where'd he go?!"

Axel escaped the warehouse, and made a dash to a taxi that was waiting for him outside. He escaped.

"Arghhh!!! He got away! He has our plans in mind! Make sure you don't let him leave New York or we could be in hot waters! I don't know how he found our hiding spot, but I sure as hell want him dead!" exclaimed the boss as his henchmen began to get on their cars to look for Axel.

In the taxi, apart from the driver, he was not alone. Two men by the name of Jerome and Luigi were there in the backseat, waiting to interpret the information he had found out at the warehouse.

"Alright, so before we move on, let me get something straight here. You two were my supposed hitmen who let me live after I brought Stern down. You two worked for that same mafia that was in the warehouse. How do I know I won't be betrayed and turned in, especially since it's not often you find someone breaking ties with their gang," Axel told them.

"It's a very seemple," said Luigi, the Italian man. "Jerome here liked mixtape that you gave us. In fact, he filed request for Martin and Brooks to continue on their music. You gave him connection to music he like, and he's a happy man. Me on the other hand, I just follow Jerome around because he help me get women, lots."

"Yeh, you've basically given me a great source of rap music, so I'm repayin' you by helping you stop this game fixing nonsense for the sake of your favorite team, and not killin' you," Jerome said.

"Let me tell you this now, then," Axel began. "If you do end up betraying me, just know that I will haunt you down and punish you until I feel that you've received enough punishment. I will make your life a living hell. Don't take this as a threat, take it as a promise."

"Where to?" asked the taxi driver. "Ehh, to the airport. We are flying to Houston, man," said Luigi. "First things first, we gotta stop Joey Crawford from getting anywhere near the Toyota Center. I've devised a plan to not allow him to catch his flight to Houston. I've sneaked in a deactivated bomb and unloaded weapons into his briefcase. When it goes through the metal detectors, he will be examined further. That will stall hopefully for officials to examine the situation, therefore not allowing him to get to Houston," Jerome said.

"Yeah, brilliant plan. I don't think the mafia's stupid enough to rely on just one person to carry out their duty. They have to have someone else ready and willing to be the back-up plan," Axel said. "Well then, we watch the second game of the series to make sure no referee shows any bias at all. If there is any sort of bias, we'll have to go down to the court and do some work ourselves," Jerome replied.

"So, eh, who's the boss?" asked Luigi. "You took a picture of him, right?" Axel took out the camera, and showed them the pictures. "After all the time you worked for those guys you don't know who the boss is?" Axel asked.

"We skipped those meetings and instead got women. We got the insight of the meetings from one of our coworkers," Jerome said.

"That looks like..." Luigi said, squinting. "Can't quite tell who it is, but he looks familiar," Jerome said.

Axel looked at the picture, and at once recognized who it was. After doing research on the fixing of games for the Gomez v. Stern case, he would know who it was. "That's Tim Donaghy!" Axel blurted out...

Well then, I guess your brother is just a bandwagoning fan. Good for him to stop being a Rockets fan seeing as how he's not a true fan. Nah, just playin'. But becoming a Lakers fan was a huge mistake.

Scola is a boss, before this year you could say he was one of the most underrated players in the league, but good to see he got the recognition he deserved this season. Dirk got more recognition by winning a championship, though, but he was never underrated.

Game One Recap
Things began in an atrocious way for Dallas. They managed to score a meager 14 points in the first quarter, not shooting the ball very well. Dirk Nowitzki was taken out of his rhythm early, chucking up many shots and not making many of them. He went 4/12 in just the first quarter. Where Nowitzki didn't show up, Jason Terry and Caron Butler filled in nicely. Terry had a team high 26 points to go along with six rebounds, two assists, and two steals, scoring 13 of his 26 in the third quarter. Butler had 22 points, three rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocks to accompany Terry. Nowitzki scored only 13 points (shooting 6/22 from the field) and grabbed nine rebounds.

For the Rockets, Kevin Martin had the game high 34 points, to go along with eight rebounds. He seemingly scored at will, shooting 12/17 from the field, 3/3 from deep range, and 7/7 from the charity stripe. He had 22 points at halftime, and didn't have to do much in the second half, seeing as how Houston had a comfortable double-digit lead. Houston shot 50% from the field compared to Dallas' 34%.

Dallas seemed to have a few runs in them throughout the second half, thanks to Terry's big second half. The margin appeared to be too much however, as the Rockets always had an answer for everything the Mavericks threw at them. "We let their defense get the best of us. It's difficult to get good shots up when you have motivated defenders in your face, breathing down your neck," Dallas veteran point guard Jason Kidd said. Kidd had a near triple-double of nine points, nine assists and seven boards.

"Unlike against the Spurs, our offense was clicking. The shots were falling, we were getting to the foul line, and everyone did their part. Combine that with a great defense, and that's an easy win," Aaron Brooks, who had 14 points and nine assists, commented after the game. Houston takes Game One by a score of 102-87.

Houston's just three wins away from their third NBA Finals appearance, but a veteran-filled team like Dallas will likely have an answer the next few games.

Game Two Recap

The adjustments Dallas needed to make were not there early on this game. Dallas shot just 25% (6/24) from the field, but were bailed out by the benefit of the whistle getting eight free throw attempts in the quarter and nailing them all. In the first half, that's how Dallas kept themselves in the game. They went 12/13 from the line for the half, and as the game progressed, their shooting percentage worked its way from from the 25% mentioned earlier. Ultimately, Dallas ended up shooting 41% from the field, but they could not keep up with Houston's efficiency.

Houston shot 55% from the field for the game, and all of that, came from the preached ball movement that coach Rick Adelman told his team to do. "The best way to counter a great defense is to keep the ball moving. That's what we got from our lead player Kevin Martin. Instead of wanting to score and force up a bad shot, he got others involved. And when you're best scorer scores the way he always does while getting his teammates to score, that's one unstoppable team," Adelman said. And at that, Houston had 28 assists on 44 field goals, with Kevin Martin securing the double-double, his first ever in the playoffs. Martin had 27 points and 10 assists, showing his skills as the primary ballhandler of the Rockets.

Meanwhile, Dallas went a bit cold in the third quarter, allowing the Rockets to finally push to a double-digit lead. After Jason Kidd scored his second of three triples to make the score 58-62, the Rockets went on an 8-0 run to make it 70-58, and kept stretching the lead further out going into the fourth quarter.

Despite allowing some easy offensive boards early on, the Rockets recovered nicely to win the battle of the boards 43-41, with their second double-double man Luis Scola cleaning them up. Scola had 17 points and 13 boards shooting 7/11 from the field. Yao Ming also helped out with 18 points (8/13 from the field) and nine boards, also picking up a couple of assists and three steals. Kyle Lowry was the last of the double-digit scorers with 13 points, six assists, and three boards shooting an excellent 5/7.

For Dallas, Caron Butler led the way with 27 points, 2 rebounds, going 10/23 from the field. Dirk Nowitzki wasn't far behind with a monster double-double of 24 points and 18 rebounds, going 10/22 from the field. Jason Kidd was a pest on defense with five steals accompanied by 15 points and five assists, going 3/6 from deep.

Pressure is now on the Mavericks to try and take both of their home games; Houston remains undefeated at home this post season, while Dallas has only lost once at the American Airlines Center.

"We just need to get our act together. We've gotten this far, it's too late to accept elimination when we're so close to the ultimate goal. We've been anhilated twice now, but we'll take that as amounting motivation to come back stronger in Dallas," Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle commented.
