To those who placed Dirk above KG or Barkley in their list, why? What are you smoking? At least X admitted his Euro love.
Thu Jul 21, 2011 11:48 pm
So placing Dirk above Karl Malone is legit to you then?
I don't see why not. Dirk's stats are just as awesome. And he also has the Finals MVP trophy, beetch.

The only poster who placed Dirk above Malone was Lamrock and he did said that his list was half-assed.
His other half probably drunk again.NovU wrote:Dirk's stats are just as awesome. And he also has the Finals MVP trophy, beetch.
O
rly?Barkley has similar if not better stats than Dirk despite Sir Churles being only a 6'5" PF.
Officially he's 6'6, most believe he's 6'4, I chose 6'5 because he's taller than Wade in a commercial they did. Unless Wade is actually 6'3 and not 6'4.KG may not have the stats that Barkley or Dirk has but KG is a better all-around player and played both ends of the floor very well.
Didn't follow the prime 7 years. I used Dirk's latest season as a cutoff because it is the season where most of you only realized that you love Dirk, so 13 seasons.
If the Mavs didn't win it all, none of you would be even placing him in your top 5.

Possibly, but looking back at his career numbers he had a decent shot of making the top five even before this year. The 2011 Finals certainly does raise awareness of him and his career accomplishments, though.

Agreed, regardless of the championship I would've put him in top 5.
To me there is Duncan in class of his own, then Malone & Barkley, then Garnett & Dirk & then the rest of the guys from 6 through 13.

Why he's above on my list. KG can do it alll on both ends, while DIrk is much more offensive in my mind.

grin...
only if that midget pf and foul mouthed kg had hair like dirk...
Sun Jul 24, 2011 2:31 am
1.Tim Duncan
2.Malone
3.Barkley
4.KG
5.Dirk
6.McHale
7.Rodman
8.Gasol
9.Webber
10.Kemp/Stoudemire
I'll post descriptions later.

Rasheed Wallace is an honourable mention that I forgot about when I was compiling my list (unless we're considering him a centre for these lists, in which case he'll be an honourable mention for me on that list).
Fri Jul 29, 2011 7:56 am
Time to get started on centers?
Fri Jul 29, 2011 11:17 am
Ben hasn't posted his list yet, but I've got my list of centres ready to go whenever that topic is started.

Here's my quick top 5:
1. Charles Barkley (86-93) - Yeah, yeah, Tim Duncan may be the best PF ever but not in my books. While Duncan was an excellent offensive player, he was really a dominant player on the other hand. Meanwhile, Barkley was an incredible, unstoppable offensive force during the last 80's and early 90's and did so while listed at 6'6" with shoes on (and standing on a deck of cards, rounded up)
2. Tim Duncan (00-07) - A victim of the lockout and an untimely injury, I had to start his prime with the 00-01 season, and Barkley's numbers beat his in my book. Duncan is nonetheless the popular #1 and is one of the best players the game has ever seen.
3. Dirk Nowitzki (00-07) - It's hard to think of Dirk, defending Finals MVP, as past his prime, but as arguably the decade's most consistent superstar (03 class didn't play 00-03 and Duncan started to go downhill after his last title), and a game changing player, I have to give him the nod over the Mailman.
4. Karl Malone (93-00) - Malone was awesome, though he's hurt by the chicken (Malone) or the egg (Stockton) argument as well as seven years not encapsulating his brilliance.
5. Kevin Garnett (01-08) - KG was a superstar on both ends of the court and had himself more than one MVP-caliber season.
Bad list with inconsistent, nonsensical justifications, but I like it.
Sat Jul 30, 2011 9:38 am
Me too. I like it more than your first half-assed list. And you are the first to place someone else other than Tim Duncan on top.
Sat Jul 30, 2011 11:49 am
I'm surprised Lamrock didnt do a list that said
"I was gonna list the best power forwards, but you've never heard of them"
Sat Jul 30, 2011 12:22 pm
lol I half expected him to list only Blazer power forwards.
Sat Jul 30, 2011 1:00 pm
or sonics power forwards. i think barkley does have a case to be higher on a lot of peoples' lists. i mean they created that 5 second back down rule because of people like him

Mark Jackson. Yeah, that one coaching the Warriors.
He was also a one-time All-Star and the inspiration for the unofficially named "Mark Jackson rule," which dictates that players can't back down their defender for more than five seconds on the perimeter.

Shadowgrin strikes again!
@Lamrock Duncan has 4 champion rings, Barkley has 0. Duncan wins no matter the situation. Don't you know the memo already? If a player has championship, then he is automatically better than anyone who doesn't!
Mon Aug 01, 2011 6:50 pm
YEAH!
That's why Robert Horry tops basketball noobs like Tim Duncan or Charles Barkley in my unofficial list. What noobs. Can u beat 6?
Mon Aug 01, 2011 10:51 pm
Robert Horry would surely be on my top-five-role-players-list...
Anyway I really like Chuck, but #1 should be Tim Duncan. In that case rings make the difference.

Hah
@SteveHTOWNEver heard of a guy named Michael Jordan?
He pretty much crushed Chuck's chances at winning a championship.

The 2002 finals were the first basketball games I've watched on tv, so yes... I heard of this guy.

Chuck still had his chances, MJ retired... several times. But I agree, that Chuck in his prime had his nemesis. He should've won that damned ring with the Rockets...
Tue Aug 02, 2011 10:10 am
The Rockets really only had a decent shot at the title in 1997, where Stockton ruined the party in the Western Conference Finals. After that, age and injuries took too much of a toll on their big three.

You forgot to add the part (since you're a Bulls fan) when even if they would have got past the Jazz, there was still Jordan and Pippen to go through. Nobody ever did go through Jordan and Pippen in the Finals.

Still would've been a great matchup.
