With the first pick of the 2010 NBA Draft. The Charlotte Bobcats select Gerald Woods of Duke University.
Image

The Toronto Raptors sighed. That was their guy, he was the man who was going to change there franchise. The man who won a national title at Duke, and had comparisons to Kobe Bryant, went 1st overall to the Bobcats (where he was likely to go.)

With the second pick of the 2010 NBA Draft. The Toronto Raptors select Russell Lyons of New Orleans University.

The Raptors had the next pick and picked a guy with comparisons to Carmelo Anthony, but it wasn't their man Gerald Woods.

The next pick went the Wizards who picked Isaac Benjamin, who had comparisons to Tim Duncan.

There is a reason I started it off this way. Lets get down to business now.

____________________________________________________________________________________________
Welcome to my new Franchise story with the Toronto Raptors.

Game: NBA Live 10
System: XBOX 360
Minutes: 7
Games: 82
Difficulty-Superstar
Settings-Adjusted for realism. (message me for in-detail settings.)
Rosters: as of 2011 nba final rosters. no draft picks from this year though.

Just so everyone knows, i simmed my first season because i knew the raptors were bad and i wanted the first pick, but i got the 2nd pick.

Small review of the previous season i simmed...
Mavericks beat Knicks in the finals
Tracy McGrady and Jason Maxiell were traded from the pistons to the raptors for Amir Johnson.
Leandro Barbosa was traded from the raptors for Richard Jefferson from the spurs.

Major transactions from that season from other teams:
Carmelo traded from the knicks to the Hornets for Chris Paul

everything else was small...thats all you really need to know from the season i simmed.

_____________________________________________________________________________________

Gerald Woods was on the Raptors eye his whole college career and when he was coming out for the draft they knew they had to get him. When he was drafted, they knew they had to trade for him.

So after the draft, the Raptors offered the Bobcats Andrea Bargnani for Gerald Woods, and it was a done deal. The Duke National Champion was a Raptor and it was meant to be.

That wasn't the only off-season transaction though.

Richard Jefferson was traded for the 3rd overall pick Isaac Benjamin, and Demar Derozan was traded for Javale Mcgee. T-Mac resigned for 4 years giving the young gun Gerald Woods some lessons on how the NBA is before he becomes a superstar.

Now lets look at the Roster for the 2010-2011 Toronto Raptor Season.

Starting 5:
C-Javale McGee-77 overallImage
PF-Linas Kleiza-77 overallImage
SF-Tracy McGrady-76 overallImage
SG-Gerald Woods-81 overall (rookie)
PG-Jose Calderon-78 overallImage

Reserves
PG-Jerryd Bayless-77
SF-Russell Lyons-72 (rookie)
PF-Isaac Benjamin-70 (rookie)
PF-Jason Maxiel-71
C-Hamed Haddadi-70
PF-Matt Bonner-69
SG-Dominque Jones-64 (IR)
PF-Ed Davis-66 (IR)
C-Jason Foxx-62 (rookie) (IR)
PG-Javier Rubio-59 (rookie)

A whole new roster is pretty much in this rebuilding squad from last year, Matt Bonner, Dominque Jones, Hamed Haddadi all came from free agency to help this team along with 5 new draft picks.

The goal of this season is to grow, improve, and complete. The Raptors are rebuilding by getting the first 3 draft picks, and just because they are rebuilding that doesn't mean that they don't have a championship on their mind in The Canadian Town.

October 29th, 2010--first game Toronto Raptors @ Philadelphia 76ers.
Preview
Opening night..both teams 0-0. Key additions from last year, for the 76ers, Thabo Sefolosha.

The rest of the starting lineup consists of Lou Williams, Andre Iguodala, Elton Brand, and Marise Speights.

How will Gerald Woods do in his Debut? Lets Get to it.

Raptors Lose in a Heroic Comeback in season opener. 105-104

1st Quarter: 26-18 76ers.
2nd Quarter: 52-43 76ers.
First Half Scoring Leaders
Andre Iguodala 16
Gerald Woods 15
3rd Quarter: 77-69 76ers.
Final Score: 105-104.

The 76ers had control of the ball game the whole time. Right from the start of the 2nd quarter they were up in double digits pretty much the rest of the game.
Andre Iguodala was hot out of the box and finished the game very strong with 28 points, including 5 three pointers.
Image

Down by 13 with 3 minutes left, 1st overall pick rookie Gerald Woods starts leading a comeback for the ages.
Image

With the help of Jose Calderon and Linas Kleiza
Image

Gerald Woods and the Raptors hit 10 consecutive shots in a row in the last 3 minutes, sharing the lead back and forth. With 9 seconds left on the clock,
Lou Williams hit this layup to go up 105-104.
Image

The raptors had 9 seconds to hit a shot, the ball was giving to the star of the raptors Gerald Woods. Woods in his first career game, was giving the ball with the game on the line, who would have thought that the rookie would be put in a situation so early in his career to win a game. He failed, but it was also his first career NBA game and the rookie did have 36 points, that was impressive enough.

Gerald Woods also did shoot 8/14 from the free throw line. If he hit 2 more free throws they would have won the game, he was not the only bad free throw shooter though, the team shot 13/24 total from the line, that's horrible. Free throws blew this game.

Top Performers:
Gerald Woods: 36
Linas Kleiza 21 5r
Jose Calderon 20 6a

Lou Williams (Player of the Game): 31
Andre Igoudala: 28
Thabo Sefolosha: 15

Next Game: Atlanta Hawks (0-1)

Woods Terrific! Raptors win home opener!

Atlanta Hawks @ Toronto Raptors: November 1st, 2010

The game started off with a lot of scoring, and a perfect 5/5 from Woods in the first quarter. He led the Raptors to a 28-26 lead at the end of the first.

At half time the Raptors kept the dominance up with a 53-46 lead. Woods was leading all scorers with 18 points. Jamal Crawford had 16 and 6 assists at the time for the Hawks.

The rest of the game was just all Raptors, finishing the game with a 98-88 victory.

Here is a highlight from the Player of the Game Gerald Woods.
phpBB [video]

Rookie Gerald Woods finished with 27 points.
Other top performers included:
Jose Calderon 21 points
and Rookie 2nd overall pick Russell Lyons had 17 points off the bench.
Image

Hamad Haddadi was a perfect 4/4 with 10 points and 7 rebounds off the bench also.

Jamal Crawford had 32 and Nick Young had 29 to lead the Hawks in scoring.

Gerald Woods shut down Superstar Joe Johnson and kept him to 11 points. If he keeps this up he will make a name for himself very early in the NBA. Maybe soon he will be able to play his idol, his NBA comparison player, Kobe Bryant, what a match up that would be.

Coming Soon: An inside look at the rookie phenom Gerald Woods.

Next Game: Indiana Pacers 1-1 @ Toronto Raptors 1-1

Great start for Woods. Averaging 30+ points in his first two games in the NBA is damn good. Keep it up. (y)

Pacers take down Raptors...Woods goes cold.

Indiana Pacers started off the game slow against the Raptors. First quarter ending score 24-21. After the first quarter it was all Pacers rest of the game. Took a halftime lead of 55-39.

Gerald Woods had only 6 points at half time, a season low. J.J. Barea was having a dominating game with 17 at half time. He would go on to win player of the game and have 32 points.
Image

It was just pure domination from the little guy.

He also had a lot of help from Danny Granger who had 28 points including 7 three pointers.
Image

The final score would be 108-95 Pacers.

Matt Bonner stepped up for the Raptors off the bench hitting 6 three's. 5 of them in the 4th quarter to make a push towards the end but it wasn't good enough.
Image

T-Mac would also have 18. Surprisingly Gerald Woods would still have 16, Calerdon would have 15, and Lyons would finish off the double digit scoring with 14.

Hansborough had a double double with 16p and 11 rebounds for the pacers, george hill would have 16 also.

The Pacers stay in Toronto and play the Raptors again in 2 days.
Hopefully the raptors won't get swept on back to back games.

Next Game: Indiana Pacers 2-3 @ Toronto Raptors 1-2

RAPTORS TURN BACK TO BACK HOME GAMES VS PACERS INTO A SPLIT. ON A LAYUP HIT BY GERALD WOODS WITH 11 SECONDS LEFT.

The Pacers had total control of the first half. J.J. Barea was in MVP mode having 18 points and 9 assists at the end of the first half and with the lead of 49-43. The second half was all Raptors though. Led by rookie Gerald Woods who ended up having a Raptors high 22 points.

Image

He also had big help from when they stole the lead in the 3rd quarter for the first time with a big 3 pointer from Jarryd Bayless.
Image

The last 2 minutes were very heated the lead was shared back and forth with 1 point leads. Until Gerald Woods hit this layup with 1 second left on the shotclock and 11 seconds left in the game.

phpBB [video]

The crowd was going nuts and it sure was a barn burner in Toronto. Granger would then go on to miss his next shot, and they would foul Calderon and he would hit 1 free throw to end up winning the game 97-95.

The player of the game would go to J.J. Barea who did have 32 points and an amazing 19 assists. Danny Granger helped out with the loosing effort with 26 points.

The Raptors had very balanced scoring from the whole squad. Everyone who played scored, knowing that everyone can put it in the hole in some way will be very key down the road.
Gerald Woods led all scorers with 22 points
Linas Kleiza had 18
The Point Guards Bayless and Calderon each had 11.
Rookie Russ Lyons had 10 off the bench.
Key starters McGee and T-Mac had 8 a piece.

The bench scoring will be needed next game against the defending 2009 NBA Champion Dallas Mavericks.

Reigning Finals MVP Dirk drops 44 on Raptors and win 109-103

Dallas Mavericks walked into Toronto with a 3-3 record and Rudy Ferenendez as their leading scorer at 24.9 points per game. Caron Butler was next at 22.8. Dirk was 5th on the leading scoring list for the Mavericks behind JKidd and J.E.T. with 13.8 but that changed big time when they played the Raptors.

It was Mavericks from start to finish and all Dirk. Dirk ended up having a massive 44 points.

Image

Rudy Fernendez did have a big game also along with Dirk having 26 points. His sharp shooting 3's really shut down the Raptors.

Image

The Raptors really need a dominate post player, Isaac Benjamin (3rd overall pick) is the future, but if they want to contend now, Javale McGee is going to have to step up a little more.

Gerald Woods finished again with a team high 27 points, and did play very well, Jose Calderon added 20 also. But the big story was Russell Lyons, dropping 26 points really it was a shy 26 points, if you didn't look at the score board you would not have known that he had 26 points.

Image

Raptors have the Clippers up next who are 2-4, a game that won't be as difficult as the Mavericks so they can get back to 500.

Raptors are now 2-3.

Coming Soon: Season Review so far, and an inside story on the rookie phenom Gerald Woods.

Woods goes for career high in big victory over Clippers!

The 3-4 Los Angeles Clippers traveled to Toronto to vs the 2-3 Raptors. They took command in the first quarter, but not enough command. They ended the first quarter with a 29-26 lead, but the Raptors would take the half time lead at 58-52. Mo Williams was the star at the game at that point with 14p and 5a, and he would lead them to a 76-75 Clipper 3rd quarter lead.

Gerald Woods and T-Mac then took over the game in the 4th quarter combining for 27 of the total 41 points the Raptors would put up in the 4th quarter alone. There was a point when T-Mac hit 9 straight points in a minute in a half that really established the lead for the Raptors for the rest of the game.

Image

Gerald Woods was the story of the whole 4th quarter keeping the Raptors in the lead. He ended up putting up a massive career high 44 points including 18 in the 4th quarter alone!

Image

5 Players would end up going in double digits for the Raptors as the sharing of scoring is really going well for Toronto.
Calderon 16p 5a
T-Mac 15p
Kleiza 14p
Russ Lyons 13p off the bench, really becoming a scorer off the bench getting good minutes for the 2nd overall pick.
McGee would have 8 and 10 rebounds.

For the Clippers Mo Williams, Eric Gordan, and Randy Foye would share the scoring with 25, 24, and 20.

The Clippers would go on to win behind Gerald Woods' new career high 116-103. The Clippers move to 4-4 and the Raptors get back to 500 at 3-3.

There next game is vs the Minnesota Timberwolves who are 1-6 will it be an easy win for the Raptors? We'll see.

Gerald Woods SLAMS it down with 2.4 seconds left on the clock to win the game 107-106!

T-Wolves (1-6) @ Raptors (3-3)

Darko Milicic
Kevin Love
Tayshaun Prince
Michael Beasley
Tony Parker
vs.
Javale McGee
Linas Kleiza
Tracy McGrady
Gerald Woods
Jose Calderon

Big match up for Woods tonight. 6'8 Guard Michael Beasly vs 6'4 Woods. Lets see how he handles it. Let's get to it.

26-25 Raptors
55-43 Raptors
halftime stars: Woods 13 Beasley 12
77-74 Raptors

Raptors had control of the whole game, up by 19 at one point, and let the lead go in the 4th quarter. Michael Beasley led a comeback for the ages.
Image

With the final minutes ticking the clock the T-Wolves really looked like they had a commanding lead, but Jose Calderon hit 3 three pointers to keep the T-Wolves from running away with the lead.

Image

In the final 30 seconds the Timberwolves had a 106-102 lead. Calderon would steal the ball with 20 seconds and hit a clutch 3 pointer to make it 106-105. The ball would be inbounded to Tony Parker, which he would then get fouled. Tony Parker would then MISS THE NEXT 2 FREE THROWS WITH 15 SECONDS LEFT ON THE CLOCK!! Talk about a Veteran player not being clutch.

The ball would then be given to you know who, Gerald Woods. Woods had the ball with 14 seconds left on the clock and waited until 5 was left and made this happen.

phpBB [video]

He would throw down that dunk with 2.3 seconds left on the clock and make it a 107-106 lead.

Woods knew the game was not over yet, but he had an idea that it was, he had hit some clutch shots in his rookie season so far, but this was the closest game winner yet!
Image

Minnesota would then call a time out but a chuck up 3 by Beasley would not be enough. Toronto takes it 107-106. The real controversy was how did Tony Parker miss those 2 free throws? It was very unlikely of him, maybe that is why San Antonio got rid of him, they guy is getting old, he is a great mentor for the young rookies there in Minnesota that's why he is there. (no rubio is not in my dynasty even though he should be the 2011 new draft class is not here)

Woods would end up finishing with a monster 32 points. The Rook is having some year. Calderon would finish up with 21 including 5 clutch three pointers. T-Mac would finish up with a nice solid 15 to help out.

Image

Balanced out scoring from T-Wolves Beasley with 29, Parker 16, Prince 18, Love 19, Milicic 12.

The Raptors have a 2-3 Spurs next who are a tough test, and a very good Chicago Bulls right after that, and the Miami Heat 2 games after that. Some tough games are ahead for the 4-3 Raptors who are above 500 for the first time this season. The question is who will stop Gerald Woods, whose season low in points this year is only 16. He is averaging 29.1.

Image

Next Game Spurs @ Raptors. Retro Jersey worked, we will see what they wear next game.
