Gordon leads Clippers to upset win over Celtics 103-94

Image

The Los Angeles Clippers simply dominated the Celtics on offense on Saturday night. Led by Eric Gordon's 26 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. The Clippers never looked like losing. The Celtics gave up too many looks in the paint and fouled too often. They also turned over the ball 19 times which will never give you much of a chance of winning. Eric Bledsoe had a break out game with 19 points and 14 dimes outplaying All-Star guard Rajon Rondo. The Celtics were cold all night Kevin Garnett was 2-15 from the field and Paul Pierce was 4-17. The only Celtics who shot well were Ray Allen (23 points and 6 rebounds) and Glen Davis (12 points and 9 rebounds). The Clippers played team basketball with five guys in double digits. Rookie of the Year candidate Blake Griffin had 14 points, 9 rebounds and 6 steals. He also had one thunderous dunk over Ray Allen.

KG Leads Boston to 96-86 win over Utah

Image
Kevin Garnett shot the ball poorly the other night against the Clippers. On Monday in Utah he changed that. He got it down low and went to work scoring 22 points (10-14 FG) he also was aggressive on the boards with 8. Ray Allen continued his hot shooting streak he had 22 points and 5 rebounds. He connected on 5 out of 9 three pointers. Rajon Rondo ran the offense smoothly and got to the free throw line (7-8 fts). Paul pierce was still cold but got to the free throw line to finish with 10 points and 3 assists. Anthony Parker provided a spark off the bench with 9 points (3-3 3pt fgs). The Celtics played well from the defense and played gritty defense. Paul Millsap was Utah's best with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Deron Williams had another solid game with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 12 assists. For the second time against Boston this season Larry Hughes shot the ball well again he finished with 21 points. The Celtics take on Phoenix on Wednesday at the Garden.

Celtics fall to 76ers in tough fought battle 97-94

Image

Despite scoring well and playing relatively good defense the 76ers ended Boston's five game winning streak

The Celtics had a problem on Friday night. They couldn't grab a rebound of any sort. The Sixers embarrassed them in the rebounding department out rebounding them 58-33 including a 11-3 advantage on offensive boards. Kevin Garnett was asked after the game about the rebounding statistics. "Well we don't much about getting offensive rebounds we wanna get back on defense but we've got to grab defensive rebounds if we want to win ball games and we didn't do that well tonight," Coach Doc Rivers also expressed concern about lack luster defensive rebounding lately. David Lee with 20 points and 16 rebounds. Marresse Speights ended with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Perhaps the worst rebounding number was Jrue Holiday's 7 rebounds. Holiday is not normally known for grabbing boards. Kevin Garnett was woeful on the night with 8 points and NO rebounds. The Celtics cannot win with KG grabbing no rebounds. Paul Piece and Rajon Rondo tried their best to win the game for Boston down the stretch but the Sixers got easy put backs which put a dagger in the Celtics hopes of winning on the night. Pierce finished with 29 points and 6 rebounds. Rajon Rondo was stellar with 16 points, 10 assist, 8 steals (yes that's correct) and just 2 turnovers. Jeff Green also did his part off the bench with 14 points and 4 steals. Green seems as though he is fitting in with the Celtics and is playing nicely off the bench.

Jones gives Pacers win with .5 second left

A breakdown on defense cost the Boston Celtics allowed Dahntay Jones to get to the hole for the game winning dunk on Wednesday. It gave Indiana a 96-94 win. Coach Doc Rivers said after the game it was simply a stuff up between who had who and that it won't happen again. Danny Granger and Dahntay Jones were the reason for the Pacers win. Granger put in 30 points and showed great all around play with 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Jones had 21 points and 5 steals due to poor ball control by the Celtics. Darren Collision also had a good game getting a double double with 15 points and 10 assists. For the Celtics Ray Allen, Rajon Rondo and Paul Pierce led the way on the night. Ray had 23 points and 7 rebounds. Paul Pierce continued his great play of recent with 21 points. Rajon Rondo continued to power Boston with 20 points, 12 assists and 4 steals. Kevin Garnett didn't have a good night shooting just 3-11 from the field. Every statistic in the game was pretty even and if it wasn't for the poor defense on the final play the Celtics may have come out of the game with a victory. The Celtics hit the road to take on Houston on Friday.

via BasedWorld Sports
Rockets to hot for Celtics to handle

The Houston Rockets took down the Celtics on Friday with inspired play from Kevin Martin and Yao Ming. They defeated Boston 97-107 witht he Celtics unable to get many stops. Yao Ming was a force to be reckoned with scoring 18 points, pulling down 11 rebounds, stealing the ball twice and swatting away 2 shots. Kevin Garnett after the game said "Well no matter what we did they scored we doubled Yao their other players were hitting every three," "I ain't making excuses but when a team is playing like that they're hard to stop. We've gotta start playing good defense as well again though," Doc Rivers said pretty much exactly the same. Kevin Martin was a huge reason why the Rockets won he scored 28 points including 3-5 from deep. Paul Pierce had another 20 plus point game with 21 on the night but he didn't help the Celtics with 6 turnovers. Turnovers are proving to be a huge problem for the Celtics at the moment. Rajon Rondo scored 14 points and only had 3 assists on the night. His ball control was also poor, he had 4 turnovers. The rest of the Celtics team was also pretty ordinary. The Celtics will now move on to New Orleans tomorrow to take on Chris Paul and the Hornets.

Hornets outwork Celtics win 99-92

Image

The Celtics played great defense but the Hornets showed great offense trumps great defense

The Celtics losing streak is now at three after losing to the Hornets on Saturday Night. Trevor Ariza and David West led the way for the Hornets. West had 21 points, 10 boards and 5 dimes. Ariza had 21 points and 10 rebounds. Chris Paul finished with 15 points, 6 rebounds, 9 assists and 2 steals on the night. Paul Pierce had another 20 point game making it six in a row. He finished with 20 points and 8 rebounds. Kevin Garnett was also good with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Rajon Rondo had another double double with 10 points and 11 assists. Ray Allen was cold going 2-13 from the field and 0-6 from downtown. Once again the Celtics couldn't get enough stops to win the game. The Celtics will now head to the Big Apple to take on Amar'e Stoudemire and the New York Knicks on Monday. They will be trying to end this three game losing streak.

Rondo leads Celtics to win with triple double

Image

Paul Pierce had his seventh straight 20 point performance

The Celtics performance on Monday night against the Knicks was beautiful to watch. You had Paul Pierce creating his own shot and playing good defense (24 points and 6 rebounds on the night), Kevin Garnett going to work down low and from mid range (21 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks), Ray Allen hitting that silky smooth jumper and Rajon Rondo pushing the tempo, attacking the basket, finding teammates and crashing the boards. Rondo was a huge reason why the Celtics won. He finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 16 assists. Kendrick Perkins also played his part with 3 blocks. The Celtics defense was outstanding smothering the normally hard to contain fast Knicks offense. The Knicks ended up being 34-94 from the field and 2-16 from deep. Landry Fields finished with 21 points ad 6 rebounds but was 8-20 from the field and 1-6 from deep. Amar'e Stoudemire was the only Knick to play a good game he finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds. The Celtics will now have a one day break before taking on the Grizzlies in Boston on Wednesday.

Celtics Big Three leads team to win 94-88

Image

The Celtics Big Three looked great on Wednesday night. They did what they are supposed to do win the Celtics games. Kevin Garnett was hot scoring 19 points (8-10 from the field) and pulling down 6 rebounds. Paul Pierce's streak of 20 plus point games ended at seven. He finished with 17 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Ray Allen had a good all around game. He contributed with 15 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 blocks. Rajon Rondo had a quite night finishing with just 9 points and 4 assists. The Celtics played tough physical defense all night and made it really hard for the Grizzlies to score in key moments. The Celtics still had a few turnovers but not as many as previous games that lead to losses. Rudy Gay was the Grizzlies best scoring 32 points and grabbing 6 rebounds
Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph both contributed. Gasol 12 points and 13 rebounds, Randolph 12 points and 12 boards. The Celtics will take on Charlotte in Boston on Friday

Kevin Garnett gets pumped after a Jermaine O'Neal dunk

Paul Pierce leads Celtics to win 83-75

Image

Paul Pierce was back to his stellar March play. Pierce led the way for the Celtics with 27 points, 6 rebounds and 6 steals. The Celtics defense was the reason for the win in a pretty low scoring game. Ray Allen was the next highest scorer for the Celtics with 13 points. Kevin Garnett had 10 points. Stephen Jackson was the top scorer for the Bobcats with 23 points. Gerald Wallace had 16 points but had a bad shooting night 7-17 from the field. This game was ugly and the game never really got exciting. But this was to be expected as both teams are defensive minded.
The Celtics will now look to continue their good play in Minnesota on Monday where Kevin Garnett will take on his old team.

Beasley leads T-Wolves to upset win 106-99

Image

Some great play from young gun Michael Beasley led the Timberwolves to one of their biggest wins of the season against Kevin Garnett's Boston Celtics. The fans were incredibly happy and Kevin Garnett looked extremely disappointed with his teams efforts. Coach Doc Rivers thoughts were different "I'm resting the guys for a few of these big remaining games and for the playoffs of course. The Celtics got killed on the offensive glass. The Timberwolves collected 17 offensive rebounds converting many of them into second chance buckets. Michael Beasley proved that he can be the man with 32 points and 8 rebounds (four of them offensive). The Celtics interior defense was pounded. The Timberwolves scored 58 points in the paint to the Celtics 38. Many of these were courtesy of fast break dunks from Celtics turnovers. Rookie Wesley Johnson also showed his potential with 20 points on the night. Kevin Love had a double double with 17 points and 15 rebounds (four offensive). For the Celtics Kevin Garnett led the way with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Rajon Rondo had 16 points, 9 rebounds but was woeful with just 3 assists and 7 turnovers. Paul Pierce went missing with just six points and 3-11 from the field. The Celtics will now take on the Pacers in Indiana tomorrow.

Led by Kevin Garnett's huge double double of 20 points and 17 rebounds a season high in rebounds the Pacers never had a chance. Ray Allen was the leading scorer on the night with 22 points. Paul Pierce put in 19 points and pulled down 5 rebounds. Rajon Rondo was back to his best with 15 points, 15 assists, 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Jeff Green was good off the bench with 15 points and 6 rebounds. For the Pacers Tyler Hansbrough led the way with 16 points and 6 rebounds but he was 4-13 from the field. Danny Granger was woeful with 13 points (3-17 FG, 2-9 3PT). The Celtics will take on the second in the West Spurs in a huge game on Thursday night in San Antonio.

Postby nbaman1 on Tue Jul 19, 2011 6:34 pm

The Award Races
With just over two weeks left in the regular season now is a good time to see who is likely to take home a regular season award.
Most Valuable Player

Image

Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers
31.2 PPG 4.0 RPG 4.3 APG 2.4 APG 2.9 TOPG 49% FG
Kobe is having another great season he is scoring at ease shooting a career best 49% from the field getting his teammates involved and the Lakers currently have the best record in the NBA 57-16 with the Celtics just behind. If you though Kobe was getting too old think again the Lakers are going into the playoffs with a big shot at a threepeat and it's thanks to Mr.Bryant.

Image

LeBron James of the Miami Heat
23.8 PPG 7.2 RPG 6.2 APG 2.1 SPG 1.3 BPG 2.2 TOPG 47%FG
Any MVP list isn't complete without LeBron James sure he may not be putting up close to 30PPG this season but he is still putting up great all around numbers and he's the reason the Heat have been clicking lately after a very slow start. The Heat are tied for the second best record in the East with 48 wins and 27 losses. LeBron has been their leader and will be the key to the Miami Heat's title chances this post season.

Image

Rajon Rondo of the Boston Celtics
13.1 PPG 1.1 ORPG 4.4 RPG 10.8 APG 2.5 SPG 3.4 TOPG 48% FG
Rajon Rondo has ignited the Celtics all season long. When the Celtics have played poorly it will normally start with Rondo. When the Celtics have played great normally Rondo's a huge reason why with some huge assists numbers. The Celtics have the best record in the East 53-20 and a lot of it is because of Rajon Rondo and his do it all play style. If the man had a jumper he would be unstoppable.

Image

Manu Ginobili of the San Antonio Spurs
22.1 PPG 5.7 RPG 5.4 APG 2.7 SPG 2.6 TOPG
Manu has played a great season and is helping the Spurs to win games. They are second in the West 52-22 and it's thanks to Manu and Tim Duncan. Many thought the Spurs were too old to make another run well here they are again poised for another long run in the playoffs. Manu probably won't win MVP but he should be considered.

Image

Tim Duncan of the San Antonio Spurs
21.0 PPG 3.0 ORPG 10.6 RPG 2.0 BPG 2.1 TOPG 51% FG
Like Manu Ginobili, Duncan has led the Spurs to another great season. He has almost got in a time machine and gone back to the year 2006 because Duncan is putting up great numbers. He is anchoring the Spurs defense and is contributing on offense. He has grabbed lots of offensive boards as well.

Image

Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls
27.2 PPG 2.3 RPG 6.8 APG 1.5 SPG 3.5 TOPG 47% FG
Derrick Rose has been a big reason the Bulls have made a huge improvement this season. He has improved his offensive game and is hitting lots of jumpers. His passing has improved and he is doing smarter things on the court. The Bulls are just half a game away from tying Miami and Orlando for second in the East and it's thanks to Derrick Rose. The Bulls could be poised for a run in the playoffs as well.

Image

Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks
26.9 PPG 1.5 ORPG 8.2 RPG 1.2 SPG 1.4 BPG 2.3 TOPG 50% FG 48% 3PT
Dirk Nowitki is getting older but that hasn't stopped his production. The man is shooting 50 percent from the field tied for a career high and 48 percent from three a career high. He has had some big performances this year and has lead the Mavs to the third best record in the West. If the Mavericks are to go very far in the playoffs Dirk will have to be big.

Image

Dwyane Wade of the Miami Heat
23.3 PPG 1.5 ORPG 4.4 RPG 5.7 APG 2.4 SPG 1.4 BPG 2.4 TOPG 47% FG
Dwyane Wade has helped shape the Heat into the second best team in the East with the help of LeBron James of course. Wade has great doing everything on the court. His defense has been great and he's hitting a high number of shots. Wade and James will need to be big in the playoffs for Miami to win.

Manu's clutch jumper leads Spurs to win 110-109

Image

Manu Ginobili with the game winner with 2.6 seconds to play

The Celtics and Spurs were set to face off on Thursday night in San Antonio. It was sure to be a great battle with two of the top teams in the NBA facing each other. Both teams started out slow with the Celtics getting on top of the Spurs to take a five point lead at the first break. Paul Pierce was on fire early hitting everything. As was Richard Jefferson of the Spurs. In the second quarter the Celtics went cold for a fair portion of the quarter. Ray Allen had an off shooting night. He was 7-17 from the field and 3-9 from deep. He still managed to finish the night with 18 points. At half time the Celtics had a two point lead. The game had been a struggle but also very fun to watch. Kevin Garnett couldn't get anything to go and neither could Tim Duncan. Tony Parker and Rajon Rondo also were having issues getting going on offense. In the third quarter the Spurs ran all over the Celtics and at the final break they were up nine. Richard Jefferson was big during the quarter as was Manu Ginobili. In the fourth quarter the Celtics again struggled to find their groove on offense while the Spurs were red hot. The Celtics were down by 13 at one stage but would rally thanks to Rajon Rondo pushing the tempo and getting to the free throw line. He was 7-8 from the line. The Celtics looked like they were going to run over the Spurs but Tim Duncan came to life hitting a few bank shots. With a minute to go the Celtics took the lead with a clutch bucket from Paul Pierce. Tim Duncan responded straight away and the Spurs had a one point lead with 45 seconds to play. Paul Pierce again would deliver with a huge shot to give Boston a 109-108 lead with 25 seconds left. The Spurs in bounded the ball and gave it to Richard Jefferson who held the ball until the 8 second mark. He passed it to Manu Ginobili who faced up and hit a fadeaway jumper right in the face of Ray Allen who defended the shot extremely well it gave the Spurs a 110-109 lead. With 1.7 seconds left the Celtics could go for the win. The Celtics inbounded to Pierce after they botched the inbounds play and Pierce was forced to put up a deep three he missed and the Spurs won.
After the game Coach Doc Rivers said "I loved the team's efforts tonight they didn't give up most other teams would've given in and got blown out we didn't and that's a credit to our guys. Sure it would've been nice to get the win but we weren't even in the game until the five minute mark." The Celtics take on the Hawks tomorrow night in Atlanta.

Pierce, Rondo lead Celtics to win 109-101

Image

Big games from Rajon Rondo and Paul Pierce led the Celtics to a nice win over the Atlanta Hawks on Friday Night. Rajon Rondo had a great game the night before he was even better in Atlanta. He finished with 22 points, 5 rebounds, 13 assists, 3 steals and a block. He got to the line 18 times and made 12 of the free throws. Rondo was very confident after the game "Nobody can stop me from getting to the basket, I'm too fast man," Coach Doc Rivers said he was pleased with Rondo and Pierce's recent form of late. Kevin Garnett got back on track after a poor performance against the Spurs. He finished with a double double 14 points, 10 rebounds, a steal and a block. Ray Allen struggled once again going 1-6 from the three point line. Finishing with just 11 points. Jermaine and Shaquille O'Neal had solid performances off the bench. Shaq had 8 points, 5 rebounds and 3 blocks, Jermaine had 8 points and 4 rebounds. For the Hawks most improved player candidate Josh Smith was on fire scoring 36 points grabbing 9 rebounds and dishing out 3 assists. He was 13-17 from the field and 10-10 from the free throw line. He was attacking the basket and no one on the Celtics team could stop him. Joe Johnson had a horrible shooting night he finished with 20 points (9-27 FG), 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals. Al Horford had a solid performance with 15 points and 15 rebounds. The Celtics will now head back to Boston to take on the Pistons on Sunday.

Boozer's big game leads Chicago to 103-93 win

Image

Nothing the Celtics did to try and contain Boozer stopped him

A 19 point and 19 rebound game from Carlos Boozer led the Chicago Bulls to a 103-93 win over the Boston Celtics. The Bulls swept the Celtics 4-0 in their regular season matchup. Derrick Rose had a relatively quite game until the fourth quarter when he started getting to the free throw line. He had 15 points, 9 rebounds and 16 assists. Taj Gibson was great off the bench with 12 points and 4 rebounds. One of the biggest stories of the night though was Ronnie Brewer. The Bulls started strained his abdomen after a hard foul by Kevin Garnett as he was driving to the basket. He is expected to miss 2-4 weeks which means he could miss the rest of the season if the Bulls don't last long in the playoffs. For the Celtics Ray Allen led the way with 31 points and some hot shooting from three point land (5-9 from deep), Rajon Rondo had a good game with 21 points and 8 assists. Kevin Garnett got off to a hot start but didn't get much off the ball in the second half thanks to great defense by the Bulls. Paul Pierce had a great all around game with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. It was a neck and neck game until the fourth quarter where the Bulls caught fire and steamrolled the Celtics. The Celtics will now face Washington back in Boston on Friday before their showdown in Miami on Sunday.

Celtics sign free agent Jannero Pargo to 1yr/880k deal

Image

Last night the Boston Celtics announced that they had signed Jannero Pargo to a one year deal. The Celtics had a free roster space with rookie Avery Bradley in the D-League so they were able to sign Pargo. Celtics President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge had this to say on the a local radio station earlier today "It's just for some bench depth because in the playoffs anything could happen we've gotta prepared just in case an injury does happen. We felt that we had enough players at every position except the point guard spot. Pargo last played for the Chicago Bulls during the 2009-2010 season. He averaged 5.5 points per game and 1.4 assists per game. He is 31 years old.

Celtics team play too much for Heat to handle

The Boston Celtics and Miami Heat have played each other three times already this season. The margain in these games has been 7 points or less every time these teams are very evenly matched. The Celtics won the first two battles and the Heat won the most recent battle right before the All-Star break. The key difference in all the games is how well the teams play as one unit. The first two games the Celtics played as a team and had many contributors but still had key performances from many individuals. The Third time it was the Heat led by LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh who outperformed Boston's Big Three. This time it would be the Celtics team who outperformed Miami. Led by Ray Allen's 26 points and 9 rebounds the Celtics were too hot for the Heat. They shot 50 percent from the field and this was thanks to smooth offense that was run by Rajon Rondo. But it wasn't just that the Celtics defense was good on the night even though the Heat scored 103 points. The Heat had to work hard for every basket nothing came easy. The Celtics had good performances from Paul Pierce 19 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, Kevin Garnett 14 points and 6 boards and Rajon Rondo 14 points, 10 boards and 5 steals. Jeff Green contributed off the bench with 13 points as did Glen Davis who put in 9 points and pulled down 5 rebounds. Coach Doc Rivers was happy with the teams efforts "I thought we played great every time the Heat challenged us we went right back at them. Any time we get contributions from lots of players we are very hard to beat. I thought our teamwork was excellent on both ends of the floor." Jeff Green also liked the teams efforts "It showed that our team is deep and we have a number of players who can step up and make plays." The Heat didn't have much chance of winning when Dwyane Wade went 5-16 from the field to finish with 13 points and 7 assists. LeBron James had 30 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists but he didn't get enough support. Chris Bosh had a double double with 20 points and 11 rebounds but didn't play good defense allowing the Celtics bigs easy buckets. The Celtics will now travel to Washington to take on the Wizards tomorrow night before wrapping up the regular season back in Boston against the Knicks.

Rivers: Starters to be rested in last two games

ESPN Boston
Celtics coach Doc Rivers announced today that Rajon Rondo, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Shaquille O'Neal will sit out the last two games of the season. He also mentioned that Paul Pierce and Ray Allen might play a minute or two if they are needed.

Jermaine's big game leads Celtics to win

Jermaine O'Neal played his best game of the season tonight putting in 22 points, grabbing 9 rebounds and blocking 3 shots. He was 9-15 from the field and was a key reason for the Celtics win with four starters being rested. Delonte West also had a good game with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. But Delonte West could be injured during the playoffs after dislocating his right index finger in the fourth quarter. "We'll get X-Rays tomorrow to see if any major damage has been done, I think I'll be good to go though," Scans the next morning revealed that no major damage had been done and Delonte would be fine to play. Jeff Green had a good game with 15 points and 6 rebounds. Rookie Luke Harangody put in 12 points and grabbed 6 boards. New Celtics point guard Jannero Pargo had 7 points on the night. Javale McGee was the best Wizard on the night he had 16 points and 11 boards. Josh Howard had 15 points as did Andray Blatche. The Celtics won 99-92 and will take on the Knicks in Boston on Wednesday night.

Green and J.O'Neal lead Celtics to win 91-100

Once again Jermaine O'Neal and Jeff Green had big games which helped the Celtics to win another game without 4 of their starters. Green had 25 points and 2 steals and O'Neal had 16 points and 15 rebounds as well as 3 blocks. Glen Davis also had a good night scoring 17 points and grabbing 7 boards. Von Wafer had 15 points and hit two threes in the win. Amar'e Stoudemire led the way for the Knicks with 32 points and 7 boards but cost his team points with his four turnovers. Raymond Felton had 11 points and 11 assists on the night but he also had 8 turnovers. The Knicks had 20 turnovers on the night which was a key reason for the loss. Celtics coach Doc Rivers after the game was happy with the play of Jermaine O'Neal and Jeff Green "I thought they were both great for these last two games. It's going to make splitting the minutes real tough when you've got so many players doing well. Jermaine when healthy has been good for us this season and Jeff looks like he's finding his rhythm." The Celtics will now have to wait and see the results of the other games before finding out who they'll play in the first round of the playoffs.

Celtics take 1-0 after Allen's game winner

A three pointer from Ray Allen with 12 seconds to play gave the Celtics a 111-110 win over the Atlanta Hawks. Ray lead the Celtics in the scoring department on the night with 26 points, he also had 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Pape Sy put up a drifter on the buzzer but great help defense from Kevin Garnett made the shot tough and it rimmed out. The Celtics starting five was great Paul Pierce had 18 points and 7 rebounds, Rondo had 17 points, 7 rebounds, 16 assists but was costly with 7 turnovers. Kevin Garnett had 16 points and 6 rebounds, Kendrick Perkins had 11 points and 8 rebounds but struggled to stop Al Horford from grabbing offensive rebounds. Joe Johnson was the leading score for the Hawks with 25. Josh Smith had 23 points and Al Horford had 13 points and 18 rebounds (eight of them offensive). The Celtics started out slow with the Hawks taking a 4 point lead at the end of the first. The Celtics continued to struggle they couldn't get stops and when they did they gave up offensive rebounds. The Hawks took a 15 point lead into halftime. The Celtics made a huge comeback though outscoring the Hawks in the third 38-21 Ray Allen and Paul Pierce led the way. The Celtics had a 2 point lead going into the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter was a back and fourth affair with Joe Johnson and Ray Allen exchanging buckets. Ray would have the last laugh though and the Celtics will now prepare to face the Hawks in the Garden again on Monday night.

via BasedWorld Sports
Horford's big game leads Hawks to 112-98 win

Al Horford has had his way with the Celtics so far in this series. So far he has pulled down 30 rebounds (thirteen offensive) and has scored 38 points. None of the Celtics centers have been able to contain Horford. Celtics Coach Doc Rivers suggested after the game that he might try a few other players "I think we'll give Kevin a shot and see what he can do and we'll go from there. Al's a very talented player and has improved a great amount since the 2008 playoffs. One of the biggest stories of the night was Josh Smith who went down with a back injury after a hard foul from Shaquille O'Neal. Smith could miss the entire series depending on how his back heals "Josh was very sore after the game but he thinks he might be able to get over it," Hawks shooting guard Joe Johnson. Marvin Williams stepped up in Smith's absence and scored 20 poiints. Joe Johnson had another good game, he had 19 points and 7 dimes. Kevin Garnett led the way for Boston with 23 points and 8 rebounds. Ray Allen shot the ball well again hitting four threes. Paul Pierce continued to struggle from the field he had just 16 points and was 5-14 from the field. Rajon Rondo had another stellar game 11 points, 5 rebounds and 15 assists. He also cut down on the turnovers but still had 4. The Hawks led for the entire game and every Celtics comeback was stopped by big buckets from Horford and Johnson. The Hawks ran away with it in the end to tie the series at one apiece.

Hawks take game three 106-100

The Boston Celtics have been badly outrebounded so far in these playoffs. In game three Atlanta outrebounded them 50-32. Al Horford is a major reason for this he has being banging on the boards creating lots of offensive rebounds. Horford on the night had 16 points and 21 rebounds. Horford has sure drawn the attention of lots of teams with his play during the first round. Joe Johnson was the Hawks leading scorer on the night with 30 points. He also had 14 assists playing point guard because Pape Sy was injured.Ersan Ilyasova contributed with Josh Smith being out he had 16 points off the bench. For the Celtics no one could get it going consistently all night. Ray Allen was the leading scorer again with 23 but he was 8-21 from the field.Rajon Rondo had 11 points and 10 assists but had 7 turnovers. Paul Pierce's offensive struggles continued he had just 6 points on the night and was 3-13 from the field. The Celtics are now down 2-1 and will play in Atlanta again on Friday before travelling back to Boston to face Atlanta on Sunday.

via BasedWorldSports
Celtics defense helps them to 97-95 victory

The Celtics defense so far in this series has been pretty average but the Atlanta Hawks have shot the lights out in every game so far as well. That changed on Friday night. Led by Kevin Garnett and Kendrick Perkins the Celtics were determined to not give up easy buckets and second chance points. The Celtics still lost the battle on the boards but only by 11 rebounds. The key stat on the night was that the Celtics took control of the ball. They had just two turnovers on the night. Normally during the season they had around 14 turnovers a game. The Celtics started out strong and led by 8 points and halftime. The Celtics started to take control of the game in the third quarter but the Hawks stormed back late in the quarter thanks to some big buckets from Al Horford and Patrick Patterson. The Hawks outscored the Celtics 27-20 in the final quarter and even had a chance to win the game with a Joe Johnson three on the Buzzer it missed and the Celtics won the game 97-95 to tie the series at two apiece.

Ray's 26 leads Celtics to 101-96 win

Another great shooting performance from Ray Allen helped the Celtics take a 3-2 lead in their playoff series against the Atlanta Hawks. Ray Allen was the only Celtic to score 20 points. Six Celtics were in double figures the only Celtic who played and didn't score was Glen Davis who struggled to get involved. The Celtics once again lost the battle on the boards but they shot 43 percent from the field compared to Atlanta's 40 percent. Both teams took care of the ball, the Hawks had 9 turnovers and the Celtics had 8. The Hawks started hot and took a 10 point lead into the first break after a hot start from Joe Johnson. The Celtics picked up their game in the second quarter and at half time they trailed by six. The Celtics played one of their best quarters of the season in the third quarter combining great defense with crisply ran offense. The Celtics took a nine point lead into the fourth quarter after outscoring the Hawks 29 to 14 in the third. Al Horford struggled on the night he was 3-10 from the field. The Hawks showed once again in the fourth that they never say die they kept playing well but in the end couldn't get the result they were after. They outscored the Celtics 33-29 in the fourth quarter. The Celtics will now travel to Atlanta looking to wrap up the series on Tuesday.

Celtics defeat Atlanta 101-88 move onto round two

The Boston Celtics saved their best defense of the series to last. In game six against the Hawks they had 18 blocks. "We were just sticking our hands up, making good rotations and trying to contest every shot," Celtics center Kendrick Perkins after the win. He had 7 blocks on the night. Centers Jermaine and Shaquille O'Neal had four blocks each. The Celtics were aggressive from the start outscoring the Hawks 26 to 11 in the first quarter. The Celtics held their lead the rest of the way and the Hawks never got the game back below double digits. Another key to the win was that the Celtics only lost the rebounding battle 47-42 unlike in the other games where they lost that battle by at least 10 rebounds. Al Horford was again shut down scoring just 13 points and going 6-19 from the field. Joe Johnson continued to struggle badly from downtown he was 0-10 from the field. The Celtisc will take on the winner of the Orlando versus Indiana series. The Pacers are on the verge of an upset leading the series 3-2 and game six will be at home later tonight.

Rajon Rondo leads Celtics to 102-94 win lead series 1-0

By Bob Richardson
Rajon Rondo has always been seen as the key to the Celtics winnning the Championship this year when he is playing well the Celtics are probably one of the toughest teams in the league. Rajon Rondo's game one in the Eastern Conference Semi Finals was one to remember he put in 24 points, had 6 rebounds and 7 assists. He was the main reason for the win with Ray Allen struggling to score a rare event after Ray has been stroking it during these playoffs. The Celtics started off well but so did Indiana led by Danny Granger who was on fire hitting eveyr shot. The Pacers jumped out to a ten point lead at halftime but the Celtics fired back in the third led by Rondo and Paul Pierce who were both aggressive getting to the line 18 times and connected 15 times. The Celtics trailed by just 2 points at the start of the fourth quarter and never looked back. The Celtics played great defense mainly due to Kevin Garnett who had 2 steals, 3 blocks and didn't allow the Pacers to grab offensive rebounds. The Celtics will take on the Pacers at the Garden again on Saturday night.

Ray Allen's hot hand leads Celtics to 106-100 win now lead series 2-0

By Bob Richardson
Ray Allen doesn't like it when he has a bad game, he'll be straight back in the gym to practice again. Ray had a poor game one but as we know Ray always comes out looking to do better. In Game two he came out and was stroking it from the get go. The Celtics thanks to Ray Allen and Paul Pierce led by five points at halftime and six points at halftime. The Celtics were back to their best on defense with 11 blocked shots. Rajon Rondo had a very ordinary game he had just five points and a nine costly turnovers. The biggest story of the night though was Danny Granger who strained his achilles after an awkward fall after a Shaquille O'Neal foul. Early reports are saying that he will probably miss the rest of the series. This is a big blow for the Pacers who don't have many scoring options and Granger was their main option. The Celtics and Pacers will now head to Indiana for game three of the 2011 Eastern Conference Semi Finals

Celtics team defense key to 95-89 win.

By Bob Richardson
The Celtics headed to Indiana with a 2-0 lead and it wasn't looking like they were going to be challenged by the young Pacers squad. No one for the Celtics was dominant on Monday night. Kevin Garnett was the leading scoring with 20 but it was all around contributions on both ends of the floor that lead to the Celtics 95-89 victory.

Coach Doc Rivers was happy with the teams performance after the win "I told them before the game slow the tempo Indiana is young and will like to run, our guys listened and the game was a defensive battle which suited us just fine. We won't just rest on this victory we want to sweep them so our guys can get some rest."

A problem for Indiana so far has been their pivot Roy Hibbert he has fouled out in game one and game three. The Celtics have attacked the paint at every opportunity and Hibbert was commited fouls. The Pacers badly missed Danny Granger on offense. Coach Jim O'Brien was quick to say so "He makes it easier for everyone else because the defense focuses on him and that creates open shots for the rest of the team. I'm not going to sit here complaining though someone else needs to step up and take on the scoring load." The Celtics were lucky that Indiana couldn't convert on multiple fast break opportunities after the Celtics turned it over 15 times. The Celtics will now look to sweep on Wednesday Night in Indiana.

Celtics sweep Pacers with 110-96 victory

By Bob Richardson
Paul Pierce finished off the series like he started it with a great twenty point performance on Wednesday night. After a relatively quite first round Pierce decided that in order for the Celtics to have a great shot at another championship he would have to lift. He did just that and the Celtics reaped the rewards sweeping the Pacers 4-0. Indiana never looked like winning a game let alone the series and will be hoping that they can add some key pieces to get better next season.

The Celtics shot blocking once again was outstanding thanks to two blocks from Shaquille and Jermaine O'Neal and and a trio of blocks from Kendrick Perkins. "Man they're one of the best teams that I've ever played at contesting shots, they don't allow any easy buckets it's either a block, a great contest or they foul you. If they continue this type of shot blocking they'll be a very hard team to beat." Pacers Center Roy Hibbert after the loss. The Celtics bench has started to perform with twelve points from Glen Davis, nine from Delonte West, six from Jeff Green and four from each of the O'Neals. "Any time we can sit on the bench for a longer rest and watch the bench guys perform it's great for the team and it's great for us because we get to rest," Celtics captain Paul Pierce after sweeping the Pacers. The Celtics are now set to face off against the Miami Heat after the Heat took down Derrick Rose and the Bulls in seven games.

Thanks for the comment. Started sometime in December last year at Operation Sports and another forum. Operation Sports dynasty section is pretty dead so I decided to post here as well. So I'd already played the whole season by the time I got here.

Ah, that explains it.

One thing that I would suggest is that you link all your posts in an archive in the first post, so its easier to find an individual game recap or article. Otherwise we'd have to scroll through this entire page just to find something.
