That's not the point. Here's the point:
The Cavs are trading for a need, not by better player. They have two options.
A) Keep Hickson and have a long jam at the 4 spot with Thompson and Jamison.
B) Trade Hickson for a 3 that can help instead of having Gee and Eyenga there. They also get rid of their logjam at the 4 spot.

My Thoughts on what they should've done...
#1: Trade Jamison to prevent this "long jam at the 4 spot"
#2: Trade Parker & Davis or Sessions & Parker...free up some cap space maybe get a couple picks..

But why keep both Hickson and Thompson when they're both similar players?
Jamison has the advantage of playing the 3 and 4 while Hickson is essentially a 4. Jamison has an expiring though so they could trade him but he is a valuable player with a pretty versatile game. And Davis has a immovable contact lol that fatty is staying in Cleveland for a long time.

Hickson can't be any worse than Thompson on offense. Thompson can consistently dunk, that's it, but I think this is a weird trade. Cleveland gets a SF who got bumped out of the rotation by Donte Greene and wasn't really great at any particular thing.

Sacramento gets another scorer who can't play defense to go with their team of ball hogging scorers who choose not to play defense. I have no idea how the hell that team is going to co-exist on either side of the ball

Doesn't matter. Players don't get paid during the lockout.

Yeah, but teams don't know about the Cap system that would be in place.

It's not like the Cavs would keep him either if an amnesty clause will be included for teams to release players.

What? Have you seen Thompson play? His game doesn't only consist of just consistent dunks, but he also has a consistent 15-18 foot jumpshot to go along with that. His offensive game is better than Hickson's in my opinion.

A good move for the Kings, they cleared their logjam at the 3 and brought a young player in Hickson, their rotation looks solid. Cavs did almost the same but with less effect IMO, although I wish Casspi the best, he should get plenty of minutes.

Anyway, I still think the Cavs made a huge mistake by not taking Derrick Williams with the 1st and Brandon Knight or Kemba Walker with the 4th:
PG: Brandon Knight or Kemba Walker
SG: Someone
SF: Derrick Williams / Omri Casspi
PF: J.J Hickson / Derrick Williams
C: Anderson Varejao

I think it's better than:
PG: Kyrie Irving
SG: Someone
SF: Omri Casspi
PF: Tristan Thompson
C: Anderson Varejao

Kemba Walker + Derrick Williams > Irving + Tristan Thompson IMO :?

Parker is a FA as far as I know.

Yeah, I've seen him play like 10-12 times. He doesn't have much post game, he can't hit a free throw, and there's no way in hell his broken jumper is more consistent than Hickson's inconsistent jumper. The more alarming thing is how dreadful he was this year against good front courts: Dominated by Derrick Williams and Solomon Hill, dominated by the Morris' brothers, dominated by Henson/Zeller, dominated by Nikola Vucevic and dominated by Alex Oriakhi.

If his jumper was as consistent as you think, he wouldn't have been bottled up like that on offense, albeit his inability to guard without fouling was partially to blame.

NBADraft.net wrote:The major inadequacy that limits his game to the paint is the fact that his jumper needs serious work … He showed very little confidence in it all year and the ones he did take looked hesitant and were off-balance (he shoots with a major fade on almost every shot) … He shoots the ball over his head and extends the release too high, making his stroke very erratic and the results extremely inconsistent… To compound the issue, he shot an abysmal 49% from the foul line, raising the concern level on his outside touch even more

Draft Express wrote:Thompson's biggest weaknesses from a situational standpoint are his post-game and jump shooting. With nearly 37% of his touches coming down low, the Canadian big man only scored 0.749 points per-possessions with his back to the basket, 2nd to last in this group after Jeremy Tyler. As a jump shooter, Thompson scored a sample worst 0.654 PPP on a meager 0.7 attempts per-game, which is not much of a surprise considering his 49% free throw conversion rate. The 20-year old big man lacks significant polish at this point.

Simply, the dude can't shoot.

Lineup:
Brandon Knight
Kawahi Leonard
???????? ????????(maybe Travis Leslie)
Derrick Williams
JJ Hickson

Oh man. I thought you were talking about Jason Thompson, not Tristan Thompson. My bad. Yeah, Tristan Thompson can't shoot period, he sucks outside of 13 feet. I meant Jason Thompson has a consistent jumpshot.

I wrote it like this to show two options, without the trade putting DW at the 3 and with the trade putting him at the 4:

One thing: Restart for Cavs.

PG: Irving
SG: Gee
SF: Casspi
PF: The new King Tristan
C: Varejao

I'd say this deal improves the Kings instantly. The Kings have a core in Tyreke, Demarcus and J.J. Now everything will depend on their development. If things turn out well, perhaps they'll become today's Grizzlies in a few years or so. As for the Cavaliers, they should be a solid rival of WAS for that last place in East.
