Hornets land Green and Wafer in a three team deal. ![]()
New Orleans, LA.
New Orleans Hornets, Boston Celtics and Detroit Pistons agreed on a trade which sent Jason Smith to Detroit, Marco Belinelli to Boston, Rip Hamilton from Detroit to Boston, Troy Murphy from Boston to Detroit, Jeff Green and Von Wafer to New Orleans.
Since Pistons hired John Kuester, Rip Hamilton was snubbed and benched. Kuester benched other veterans and placed rookies in starting lineup. After 17 games Pistons finally fired Kuester and hired Wesley Brown, but Pistons still was in trouble. Rip Hamilton was unhappy with situation in team and requested a trade.
''What a 8 years here in Detroit......'' Hamilton said it after the game against Atlanta Hawks in Detroit. ''I want to say thanks to city of Detroit. We won a championship here, and appeared in finals one more year. Thanks''. He left arena...
In next day NBA announced three team trade. Boston cleared up salary cap by trading Murphy away with his 11$ Million dollars for 10-11 season. Celtics acquired experienced veteran with a ring and good shot. Richard Hamilton will be a 6th man for Celtics, he will be Ray Allen back-up.
''Well, it's better to be a back-up for greatest shooter in NBA history and chance to win another time, than be benched in Detroit.
Jeff Green and Von Vafer will arrive for next game against Sacramento Kings in New Orleans Arena.
Jeff Green wasn't surprised with trade: ''Well I wanted trade too, and I finally got it. Thanks Boston for this two months. I learned a lot in Summer Camp, preseason and two months of regular season. Good luck in future Celtics.''
