Mike Brown to coach the Lakers ?!

Postby Dee. on Wed May 25, 2011 1:59 pm

So the rumors are that Mike Brown and the Lakers are getting serious about him getting the coaching job. Why the heck would they get him if theres are atleast a few better coaches on the market ? If this goes down, I really think the Lakers are going downhill.

What do you guys think about Brown possibly taking the job?

With their roster I don't think they can really fall too far but that would be a surprising hire, especially with the way Kobe's been backing Brian Shaw.

While the roster may not change, the players and getting older and not as durable, i'm not one of the guys that think Kobe might be getting too old, but they surely need some damn speed. Theres an article on NBA.com saying that the Lakers narrowed the search to Adelman and Brown, they added that they do want to save they're salary and would pay 5mill at best. Not liking the Brown idea at all.

The Lakers' average age is only slightly higher than that of the Mavericks. I think the notion that the Lakers are old is being overblown in the wake of the second round sweep. They could do with a bit more speed at the point with Fisher moving into a bench role if he's still around but I don't think the situation is that dire.

If Lakers want experience, they should go with Rick Adelman. If they want someone popular with the players, they should go with Shaw. No way am I going to like the team hiring Mike Brown. Kobe's given his blessing to Shaw/Adelman as well as one of the Van Gundy's.

I remember a close playoff game where a timeout was called and mike brown looked lost and confused and his assistant drew up the play. Not the sort of head coach i want.

Those Cavs teams did manage to win 60+ games under him before running out of steam in the Playoffs though. The Lakers' roster is superior to any Cavs team during LeBron's tenure (or any other era in their history, for that matter); if he's got some good assistants around him, then maybe it doesn't work out too badly.

Depends on whether they blow up their roster or not.

In all honesty, the team shouldn't be blown up; it's just Laker fans overreacting. Same goes for any trade speculation about Russell Westbrook.

As long as the Lakers don't try to rebuild, I agree, the team is still a top team.

I doubt they make too many changes. Maybe they look to get a little younger and faster at the point but there's no reason to panic and making sweeping changes to a core that recently won back to back championships.

^Lakers did that in my Rockets dynasty after Derek Fisher left for Cleveland.

So what will the Lakers' offense look like now? Will Mike Brown just say 'get the ball to Kobe, and see if something can happen'?

That's what I was gonna say. I guess a bigger defensive approach for the squad?

So what really is it that LAL are after here in this deal? Mike Brown, is he really the right guy? Possibly a scape goat for Kobe getting old?

I love this, since I hate the Lakers. Great hire!!!!!

Now if only the Clippers could get Rick Adelman, we'd have a complete turn around in LA in just 2 years.

Edit:

Mike Brown is still living off of LeBron's greatness. Like others have said, the only offense that Cleveland ever ran under him was isolations for LeBron. I wouldn't expect it to be much different for LAL. Rick Adelman would have been a much better hire. I can't believe he was fired. Houston was stupid.

I'd like to see Rick Adelman in Golden State. God knows what that offense of theirs is capable of with Adelman there. I'm guessing Shaw will help to run the offense while Brown will just focus on D.
