Wolves general manager David Kahn said he knew Minnesota was "dead" when it got down to the final three of himself, Utah executive Kevin O'Connor and Nick Gilbert.
"This league has a habit, and I am just going to say habit, of producing some pretty incredible story lines," Kahn said. "Last year it was Abe Pollin's widow and this year it was a 14-year-old boy and the only thing we have in common is we have both been bar mitzvahed. We were done. I told Kevin: 'We're toast.' This is not happening for us and I was right."
KAHN!

It's going to be great seeing Kyrie Irving and Blake Griffin turn the Clippers into the best team in LA once again.

I just dont get it. The Mock drafts I see all have the Cavs selecting a PG at #1. Hello! The Cavs need a good big man! They need to trade Jamison for another pick.
They could trade jamison to sacramento/anaheim for the Kings first rounder. That would get them three picks.
Pick 1, Kanter
Pick 4, Kawhi Leonard
Pick 7, Knight
hmmm... three ks. maybe not so good....
Irving will go number 1, Knight will go in top 5 (maybe as high as 2), Leonard is overrated & really shouldn't go in top 5 (I guess it's a weak draft so he will go lottery).
You don't take a big man just because you need one. Irving is good. And besides, they can get the Turk at 4 (if Jazz pass on him).
It's better to take best talent & the rest will sort itself out.

Maybe you should inform the various general managers of the NBA.

The Cavs should pick the best available player (Kyrie Irving).
Thu May 19, 2011 4:59 am
i think the cavs should trade the 1st and 4th pick to the celtics for jermaine o'neal. its win win for sure

Cavs have to take Derrick Williams. Baron Davis is still a solid point guard and they've got a gaping hole at the 3.
Then if Kanter drops to 4, then they HAVE to draft him.

They should take Irving and trade the fourth pick with that trade exception for some veteran, who can contribute right away.

So proud to be a cavalier fan, any way what about Jared Sullinger from ohio state? Maybe cleveland should draft him. All i know is that the cavs need two wingmen, and maybe another center. Who's the guy from arizona that some people say the cavs should pick? I don't think they should get another duke player.
Thu May 19, 2011 9:03 am
Sullinger didnt declare. And i hope minny doesnt take derrick williams, so the jazz can take him
Thu May 19, 2011 9:09 am
Yeah that's who i mean Derrick Williams is whom the cavs should take first, and then if Kyle is still around maybe take him with the 4th pick.
Its funny how the Utah Jazz always have a top 5 or 10 pick each year, maybe they'll draft another nice rookie like the last draft.
Thu May 19, 2011 9:26 am
im glad to be a cavs fan!!! my predictions is #1 pick Derrick Williams!!!! & #4 pick is.........Kemba Walker!!! 2nd round maybe get Malcolm Lee or Scotty Hopson we need a shooting guard bad!
pg Kemba
sg Malcolm Lee
sf Derrick Williams
pf Varejao
c J.J Hickson(Beast)
best lineup ever and cavs make the 8th seed 38-44

WAT? The Jazz have only had two top-ten picks in the last eighteen years, not including this year.
http://www.nba.com/jazz/history/history_draft_alltime.htmlLast three top ten picks for Utah: Gordon Hayward 9th in 2010, Deron Williams 3rd in 2005, Thurl Bailey 7th in
1983.

What about last years pick that they got from new york or new jersey wasn't it? And Gordon Hayward was utah's #9 pick in the 2010 draft. Oh yeah i reread your post, what i meant by always, i meant since last year the jazz have been in top 10 in the draft.

That was the pick they got from New York, not their own pick.

Kahn backpedals.
Kahn, in a statement sent Wednesday by the Wolves to The Associated Press, said he wasn’t suggesting a conspiracy of any kind.
“I don’t believe in jinxes, curses (or) hocus pocus, and I certainly don’t think we were wronged,” Kahn said. “But I do believe in the power of story, and I joked last night that it’s a heck (of a) better story for a 14-year-old kid to beat out a couple of middle-aged executives standing together on a stage on national TV—and that our league seems to always have its own share of luck in being a part of these stories.”
Kahn added: “That was the entire meaning of what I said last night in a joking fashion and what I believe was received in such fashion.”

Sure, Kahn, sure....
We hear you.

i dunno what part of 25% chance he doesn't understand
Thu May 19, 2011 3:45 pm
Go to 2:12. He was clearly joking. He might be the worst general manager this league has ever seen but I kinda like the guy

they keep showing that clip at 2:20, without the context of his comment on tv

Clippers GM Olshey doesn't regret trading pick.
“Protecting the pick was never an option,” L.A. general manager Neil Olshey told NBA.com. “There is no way to Monday morning quarterback this (since) our draft position wouldn’t have been the same had we not made the deal as I’m sure we would not have finished 11-11 post-trade without Mo Williams.

I can appreciate putting on a bold face moving forward but surely he doesn't believe that. Mo Williams and a .500 finish in a season where you miss the Playoffs is not an even trade for the number one pick, there's no GM in their right mind that wouldn't at least secretly wish they could have that swap over again.
