Fri Feb 25, 2011 5:47 pm

I dont know whats happening but when im playing NBA 2k11 (25% out of 100% of the time that i'm playing) my computer turns off.. my game doesnt crash but it directly turns off.. :( when i am playing other game it doesnt happen.. just nba 2k11.. does this happen because of the mods that i put in my game folder? because i put a lot of mods from almost all of the patchers to make my game realistic.. help.. i dont know what to do.. :( hope that someone can help me... thanks..

what other games do you play wherein the PC doesnt turn off? how are your PC temps? specs?

Usual suspect would be that your PC is overheating and/or PSU is insufficient. Software alone should not cause a PC to shutdown if the system is stable.

it also happens to me before randomly (early this year before the patch) and i used to suspect due to overheating. I tried playing only one game at a time - meaning after one game, i would turn off my pc or close the game for a while, and then after few minutes or hours i will play again. :) but the weird thing is it happens only to 2k11.

so far it doesnt happens again. :) I also found some sites stating it might be some problem with your Settings file, but i am not sure.

Hope this helps :)

the other games that i play without the pc turning off is NFS Hot pursuit, NFS Shift, Test Drive Unlimited, COD Modern Warfare 4, etc.. yeah i think the problem is overheating.. guys why is it that when i check the dxdiag the processor isnt showing up.. it says "n/a".. but my processor is AMD Sempron 2.7 GHz.. does that mean that my processor is destroyed because it overheats when it says in dxdiag is "n/a"? im so worried because i dont have money to buy new processor.. that could be so expensive.. :( thanks for the answers bros..

verify first that your processor is indeed overheating. download a monitoring app like realtemp and a few minutes into playing the game, press ALT+F4 (to quit the game) and see the max temp.'
I did notice that NBA 2k11 can tax a processor and even on my i7 950 I see high CPU usage across all 8 virtual cores

For solutions, first thing I would do is to clean your CPU's heatsink off any dust (dont use vacuum cleaner!) just blow or better yet, if you can get a can of compressed air then dust off your PC.

If you do find that your CPU is overheating, try turning off the cloth simulations. That works the CPU the most.

Buy new power supply and clean your PC.

IMO, its irresponsible to tell people to buy stuff without checking first if they really need it

check the maximum CPU temps. What is your Sempron's model by the way so we can help you check with AMD spec for max temp for the Sempron.

as for your PSU, please fill up your complete specs so we can see if its too much for your PSU
