If Williams frequently clashed with Sloan, I can't imagine him being a whole lot happier playing for Avery Johnson.
It seems safe to say that the Jazz weren't too confident that they'd be able to keep him around beyond next season. The LeBron and Melo situations certainly seem to have a few teams worried, something we already saw with Orlando making those trades earlier in the season. With the possibility of losing Williams in mind it's a fairly good deal for the Jazz and assuming they can keep him or make another big move with him in the offseason, it's good for the Nets as well.

On that note, do you think they will bring Sloan back in the future?

No.
Just in case anybody in Utah is getting any wild ideas Jerry Sloan might return as coach now that Deron Williams has been traded, that's not going to happen. "No,'' Sloan said in a phone interview with FanHouse on Wednesday. "That didn't have anything to do with it. I left on my own terms.'' FanHouse.com

I still think Sloan's taking the high road as far as discussing the specifics that led to his departure, it's still strikes me as weird that he'd resign midseason shortly after agreeing to a one year extension. Nevertheless, I'm inclined to believe him when he says he won't be back and the Williams trade changes nothing about his decision to step down.

I see this as a J Kidd trade more or less. SImularity's:
1. Notice the Nets' poor recent play at the time of the trade.
2000 (season before kidd trade) 26 wins
2010 (season before williams trade) 17 wins
2. "It is the second bug trade involving the 24-year-old Marbury, who came to the Nets in March 1999 from the Minnesota Timberwolves in a multiplayer trade"
This is Devin Harris' 2nd big trade after being traded from Dallas in a multi-player trade
3. How the new Nets PG found out about the trade:
"As ecstatic as Marbury sounded last night, Kidd, 28, had the opposite reaction in Phoenix. His wife, Joumana, blasted the Suns owner Jerry Colangelo on her Phoenix radio show, ''The Positive Side of Sports,'' for not telling Kidd before he found out through the news media."
"'He was taken aback by the way everything happened,'' Colangelo said. ''He was a little emotional, but after talking to him for a while, I thanked him for everything he did for us."
Deron also found out about his trade through the news media and he was NOT happy about it.
4.Controversey surrounding the new Nets PG
"The deal is not without a tinge of controversy. The Nets were willing to overlook that Kidd was arrested on Jan. 18 on a misdemeanor assault charge when he struck his wife during an argument over the feeding of their son, Trey. "
Deron is also facing controversy after allegedly causing the dismissal of Jerry Sloan.
5. Involvement in USA basketball
''I know Jason Kidd and I know his wife, having been around him during the Olympics and U.S.A. Basketball''
Deron also won a gold medal as PG of the USA team
6.Contract situation (MOST IMPORTANT)
"Kidd, who began his career in Dallas, has two years remaining on his contract, but he can opt out in the final year of the nine-year $54 million deal; he will make about $8.4 million next year."
Deron also has two years left on his contract with an opt our for the last year.
How it Worked Out:
Obviously well. Kidd led the Nets to two consecutive eastern conference finals eventually losing to the Spurs and Lakers. Kidd SHOULD HAVE won an MVP award but was beaten out by Shaq. Kidd became a legend in NJ and undoubtedly the best PG in the NBA.
The player option DID become a problem with Kidd as he tested the market and sparked a bidding war between NJ and San Antonio after he declined his 2003 player option. The Nets resigned Kidd after the Nets agreed to also sign his buddy Alonzo Mourning

Favors wasn't working out too well for the nets, hopefully they can salvage a good free agent signing this offseason.
