I like that the Knicks were able to hold on to Landry Fields, that's a win on its own.

The one thing I hate about this trade is that it means Denver likely overtakes Portland for 5th place.

One question for all the posters here. Why the concstant Melo hate? I'm not going to sit here and lie and tell you that I've always loved him, but he is one of the best offensive players in the NBA right now. Sure, he can't defend (neither can anyone else in New York) and he isn't your typical play making superstar.. But why do some of you posters here consider him as a bad player? Am I missing something here?

Finally the drama is over. I don't really care about the trade since I'm OK with all the players lol..

I don't consider him a bad player, and I am the biggest Melo "hater" on here. I just think he is the most overrated player in the league (now that Rose has become a legit star) and that we've had six months of drama over a player that is about as good as Kevin Martin.

I really don't think trading three of the Knicks' five best players as well as a myriad (including Gallinari who has room to improve and has been arguably as valuable as Melo at this point) for a ball stopper who doesn't defend.

Great move for Denver though. They had no leverage and still managed to improve by trading their star player.

More like more chance for the Jazz to make the playoffs while Denver sinks down along with the Grizzlies(Gay injured).

Done with betting. On paper, Denver's roster looks way stronger and New York's weaker, however. Forgot about Gay's injury. His actual impact on the team is overstated though.

I've always liked Melo the most out of his 03 Draft class (yes, more than Darko!) and always felt that he was Team USA's best player between 2006-07. However, the Knicks should have just waited till the Summer to get him if they were gonna give up their whole team for him.

Ur on, Lameduck! Denver pretty much returning to rebuilding mode and Felton might actually get traded right away. Rofl.

Even if Felton stays, I seriously don't see Gallo, Felton and Wilson successfully playing at the level Denver was playing with Billups and Melo. These guys now play in the tougher conference and they're all softies.

And NYK now definitely has right pieces to build around. Billups - Melo - Amare. This trio should be able to attract many good veterans like the Heat and Celts were able to.

Anyone notice that Balkman returned to Knicks with that trade?

You should really know that win shares are a very haphazard way to evaluate player performance.

I'm pretty sure Billups is staying in New York, the Knicks are going to try and convince him to stay for their 'playoff run' (bahahahahaha).

Nuggets did brilliantly to maximize value considering how little leverage they had, but Felton/Afflalo/Gallo/Harrington/Nene/Chandler/Smith/Lawson/Andersen is going to make most offenses piss themselves laughing.

I know that, I'm just sayin' that the Knicks sacrificed their future and may not have even improved their talent. Pau Gasol is a better player than Melo and he was traded for Marc Gasol and cap space.

On a side note, I hope this trade means that the Miller+Przybilla for Harris+Murphy deal happens. Pryz Bizz has been there forever and I like Miller a lot, but if Harris plays like he did before the 12-70 Nets season and stays reasonably healthy, he'd be great to have.

The talent bit I agree with. The only way I see the Knicks doing anything is if the Chris Paul to NY thing really does turn out true. Carmelo and Amare are both elite scorers, but they don't really do anything else particularly well, and can't play defense.

Finally, the Melo comedy is over hahahaha.

I don't like the trade from the Knicks' side that they gave up too much. That being said, I've always thought Melo is perfect fit for NYC. He seems like Bernard King v2.0. The key to this deal is what Knicks get from the other players. They need to get strong play from Billups for this deal to be a winner. They also need Renaldo Balkman to give meaningful hustle minutes off the bench. Glad they kept Fields though.

I don't have an issue with Knicks giving up Chandler, he was quickly going from underrated to overrated & they were going to overpay to keep him. I don't have an issue with Raymond Felton getting shipped. He went from underrated to overrated. Watch Ty Lawson take his starting spot away from him in Denver (if Nuggets keep Felton, they'd be better off trading him & just starting Ty).

I don't have a problem with Knicks giving up Anthony Randolph & Eddy Curry, or even Mozgov.

I do however have a problem with them giving up that 2014 1st Round pick, those two 2nd Round picks and Gallinari. I liked Gallo as a super 6th man for the Knicks. Sadly he will waste away with Nuggets & not reach his potential now.

A lot of people are saying the Knicks had ALL the leverage, but Carmelo made it clear he wanted the extension before the new CBA. Over the last few weeks it was obvious he was worried about getting his money, and wasn't really willing to lose millions. Obviously the Knicks possibly could've gotten him for nothing, but I don't think Walsh (coughDOLANcough) wanted to take that risk and maybe he accepts the extension with Denver or New Jersey. Billups is staying I've already read several reports of that, he's on a year and a half loan pretty much. This is the begining of a bunch of moves.

Trust me this off-season the team will be re-tooled again, trying to find all the pieces to the puzzle. Next year I pretty much promise the Knicks will be a 50 win team. As for Chris Paul in 2012, I've been reading a lot that he has a knee condition, and after watching what is going on with Brandon Roy in Portland, I'm not sure I would want to risk that. While Paul might be better in New York, I would much rather see D-will.

And by the way, I think people look way too much into all these 'metric stats'. You can't sit here and tell me that this Denver team is better then the one with Billups + Melo.

thank god it's over. now we''ll just hear abuout how bad /good melo is playing in ny for the rest of the season. and this scenario was well played by denver. they screwed themselves by scaring the nets away from the bargaining table earlier in the season. they used the knicks and nets against each other to build value for their trade. their gm should be executive of the year. wait, so mozgov got traded to denver too?

How do you see that? They were a 43-win talent team, pro-rated, before making this deal. I don't think replacing Felton, Gallinari and Chandler with Melo, Billups and Corey Brewer provides them with an additional seven wins worth of talent. They're taking on 37.4 mil in salaries. Now, a bunch of guys...on lower salaries are expiring, but how then do they make the moves to get someone which makes them a 50 win team, especially if they still have plans for Chris Paul or Deron Williams?

I really don't see the Knicks going too deep in the conference even with two scorers like these, when they're still defensively inept.

so what are dolan & isiah thomas's plans for next year?? sit on all their cap space or sign a bunch of temp players to 1 year deals and then hope for CP3 or Deron?

Billups said he'd want a buy-out if traded to New Jersey, what about the Knicks?

I like it well enough for the Knicks and Nuggets. New York overpaid but depending on what happens with Billups, giving up Felton needn't be too big of a blow at point guard. Denver probably would've liked more picks but that's a solid package for Melo. Randolph was out of the rotation and Curry's been reduced to a contract and a roster spot at this point, I expect Brewer will get more of a run with D'Antoni. It doesn't do a whole lot for the Timberwolves but Curry's contract will come off the books and they're basically contending for the first pick now so from their point of view, why not?

Who's going to do the re-tooling? It won't be Donnie Walsh. I'm sure he's tired of Dolan's bs, and I don't blame him. That means you-know-who will be running the Knicks again, which is bad news.

CP3 had ONE knee injury last year Doobie. give him a break. he obviously came back this year and proved to everyone he's still the best PG in the league. btw, wouldn't you think amare has a better chance of than cp3?
