He might not have been interested in competing again. Not all defending champions return.

Of course it's OK. There's no rule forcing players to compete in those competitions. Invitations are extended to players who would make suitable contestants and are interested in competing.

Josh McRoberts was petitioning to get in.

Try n 2 get 2 400,000 followers by all-star, if I do I think I will do da dunk contest again, this time in Celtic gree

I think he's going to be fine in the contest, not just another impressive in-game dunker that comes up short in the contest environment. At least, I certainly hope he doesn't Shannon Brown the event.

Even if the format is broken, we should at least see a couple of impressive dunks to make it worthwhile. (Y)

Those dunk mixes on NBA.com are great. Griffin, Ibaka and McGee have their share of dunks, they show like 5-10. And then comes Jennings, who has just 2 fastbreak dunks and they show them 5-10 times.

disappointed in McGee's mix on nba.com they didnt show the shove/flagrant dunk on Brand or my favorite Raptors Superman dunk

Jennings 2 dunks are funny in comparison

I wonder if Griffin can top his dunks when the contest comes.

Re: Dunk Contest 2011

Jennings just doesn't seem like he gets enough air to get really creative. Just enough to do nice windmills, but he will really need to freak it in air to stand out.

he'll probably do some crazy passes to alleyoops

Something I'd like to see them drop (but no doubt they won't) is the requirement of using a teammate on at least one of the dunks. Don't ban it of course, if someone actually cooks up something creative that requires a teammate then by all means go with it but forcing players to use a teammate on at least one dunk just seems to limit creativity. It's just taking away an attempt that could've been something more original and there's a lot of familiar ground being covered with the teammate dunks.

@ 1:10 - Always pulled that off in 2K's Dunk Contest with that big horse?(roadblock) as an obstacle when I need an instant 100.

I wish someone would do that in the DC. Obstacle or no obstacle.

Video of McGee training:

The part of him catching that sheet is very creative. He made that inverse 360 by Vince look waaay too easy
difficult stuff, but he makes it look so easy. does his wingspan allow him to almost dunk without jumping

Re: Dunk Contest 2011

Mon Jan 10, 2011 7:18 am

McGee's standing reach is 9'6.5'' and his vertical is 32.5''. I think how easy it looks might hurt his chances. He'll always has his dunk from the free throw line to try though.

The sheet one is interesting but Blake can hit his head on the rim, so I hope he doesnt do that.

Standing dunks have no business being in a 4 dunk competition. They are impressive but not to "casual" fans. That VC was waaaay too easy but I'm sure he'll do that for his first dunk.

Personally I loved the side of the backboard tap then dunk.

Other contestants look fine (although I can think of another handful that's better than Ibaka) but BRANDON FRIGGIN JENNINGS? :facepalm2:

He can barely do a two handed fast break dunk, enough said...seriously? NBA? :turrible:

Re: Dunk Contest 2011

The sheet dunk was kind of creative, but there's no way that should be a 50 if he did that in the contest. It's all about the prop rather than creativity with the ball and there's been too much of that in the contest in recent years for my liking. It's like Howard's sticker dunk; everyone seems to fawn over it but it was a fairly ordinary dunk with a backboard tap. Creative in its own way, sure, but not one of the greatest dunk contest dunks of all-time.

The 360 windmill would be a good opener for him if he uses it. It's been over ten years since Vince Carter did it in the contest, it hasn't been done to death like a standard free throw line dunk, windmill, 360 or between-the-legs so it'll still be cool to see him pull it off and it should garner a good score.

Mon Jan 10, 2011 11:44 am

I'm waiting for someone to do a reverse 360, reverse windmill

Re: Dunk Contest 2011

On TNT a few nights ago they showed how many in-game dunks were made from the contestants. Pretty funny, the highest was 72 I think, the others over 40... and Jennings had 2

Re: Dunk Contest 2011

Mon Jan 10, 2011 7:57 pm

No one had seen Spud Webb dunk before the 1986 contest. I wouldn't go so far as to say Jennings is going to win, but those two career dunks may be a little misleading.
