Houston Rockets 110-107 Los Angeles Lakers
In 20 minutes of action, Yao had 15 points, three boards, and four blocks.
This was a highly anticipated game, and both teams delivered. The game started with the Rockets dominating, but the Lakers came back in time to take the lead before the end of the first quarter. The Rockets took control of the game in the second however, and led almost the whole way. Aaron Brooks had a monster night of 22 points, nine assists, and three rebounds, ultimately becoming the performer of the game. Kevin Martin had a team high 24 points, but on a miserable 9/24 from the field, including 0/5 from the third dimension.
In the fourth quarter, the Lakers regained the lead, and led by as many as six. The Rockets however, battled back. Kevin Martin and Aaron Brooks scored their fair share of points, and Yao Ming contributed a three-point play. The Lakers would not go down without a fight. Kobe Bryant had a game high 34 points, and would rally back to the point where there was 10 seconds left, and the score was 110-107.
Shane Battier was in charge of guarding Kobe the whole game, holding him to 14/34 shooting from the field. In the last 10 seconds, the story was the same. Kobe surprisingly shook off Shane Battier, and got an open look for three, but it barely bounced short, and the Rockets hung on to steal the season opener in front of the Los Angeles crowd.
"It was definitely a lucky win. Kobe usually makes you pay when you leave him that wide open, but with both teams struggling from three, it makes sense," said Aaron Brooks after the game.Player of the Game-

Hot shooting was key to the Rockets victory.
As you can expect, this was a high scoring game. Without Yao Ming, the Rockets sped up the tempo of the game, which led to their hot shooting all game. Kevin Martin had a better shooting night of 6/13, and 7/8 from the line, good for 20 points. Shane Battier had a team high 21 points on an efficient 9/11 from the field, and was awarded the player of the game honors.
On the other side, Monta Ellis torched the Rockets, with a game high 31 points on 13/19 shooting, and 3/4 from the third dimension. Both teams made nine three-pointers each, the Warriors going 9/21, and the Rockets going an eye-popping 9/13.Player of the Game-

Chauncey Billups: 10 assists, 9 points on 4/23 shooting. Yikes.
The Rockets' hot shooting continued, but they weren't the only ones. Carmelo Anthony torched them with 47 points, on 20/30 from the field. "I'm concerned with our defense. This hot shooting can't go on all season, and if we're allowing teams to get hot, this will be a long season," said head coach Rick Adelman. Courtney Lee was surprisingly the top scorer for the Rockets. He had 19 points.Player of the Game-

For Nellieball, I had some fairly decent pics with the camera. Couple tips: take pictures of paused replays (obviously), make sure the picture is only of the screen and nothing else, make sure your lens is perfectly clean, and perhaps most importantly, only go with 320x240 pics. Anything bigger and the poor quality really shows.

[3-0] Houston Rockets 107-97 New Orleans Hornets [0-3]
Kevin Martin scored a season high 27 points! | David West had to step up after CP3 went down.
The Rockets' hot shooting continues, but this time, the New Orleans Hornets kept up with the Rockets' hot shooting. The score was 54-52 in favor of the Hornets at halftime. David West and Emeka Okafor were really stinging the Rockets' interior defense. In the third quarter, the Rockets took the lead after Chuck Hayes made two free throws, making the score 62-61. A big turning point for the Rockets was when Chuck Hayes fouled Chris Paul when he was going up for a layup, and Paul strained his achilles. He is expected to miss a couple of weeks with this injury.
With that huge loss, the Rockets backcourt took over the game, pulling ahead just before the fourth quarter. Despite lacking Chris Paul, Trevor Ariza and David West stepped up big for their team, helping the Hornets keep the game close. "I think we underestimated them a little too much after their floor general went down. I'm just glad we picked up the W," said Kevin Martin, whom, thanks to him, the Rockets were able to close out the game on two ice cold mid-range jumpshots.Player of the Game-

[4-0] Houston Rockets 100-95 San Antonio Spurs [3-1]
This And-1 play iced the game for the Rockets | Tim Duncan had 22 first half points, but was slowed down in the second half
This game started with both teams trading buckets, before the Rockets got hot and went up 22-14. However, the Spurs would score seven unanswered, after forcing many turnovers from the Rockets. The Spurs would gain the lead in the second quarter, and would lead the whole way up until the last couple of minutes of the fourth quarter. The turnover fest from the Rockets made this game much harder than it should have been, as they had 15 compared to the Spurs' nine.
Terrence Williams scored a three-pointer to bring the Rockets within one point, 88-87. It was basically all the bench's effort to bring the Rockets close in the fourth quarter. Both teams traded buckets, until the game was 92-91 in favor of the Spurs. Kevin Martin drove baseline for a layup, and was fouled by George Hill. He made the bucket and the free throw, putting the Rockets up 94-92. "It was an excellent fourth quarter effort by our bench players. This Spurs team is very physical, which is why Coach Adelman rested Yao for our first game of this back-to-back. To beat them without Yao is just an amazing feeling," said Kevin Martin.
The Rockets were able to close the game out with clutch free throws, stealing yet another win on the road. They did this without their star Yao Ming, and they shut down Tim Duncan in the second half with the double-team, holding him to nine second half points. The Rockets are on a roll to start the season, as next they head home to host the Minnesota Timberwolves, then start a three-game road trip, starting at the nation's capital to take on the Washington Wizards.Performer of the Game-
