Whats the difference betwen layup and shot inside/close ?

Wed Dec 22, 2010 4:11 am

What is considered a layup ?
is it when a player is moving towers the basket and tries to lay it up ?

and Inside/close would be when a player is static near the rim and tries to lay it up too ?

I always thought that when a player didnt try a jumpshot with a release timing it would be considered a layup , but I guess I'm wrong. not counting low post moves of course

I want to know this since nba 2k9, can anyone help me ? I'm really confused if getting shot inside will help my layups or not

layups are usually considered to be off the run and the other two would be off a set shot or post move. the layup skill will improve chances of making one (duh) and unlock layup packages

Inside shots are under the basket. They are stationary(static, as you said) shots. Close shots are from around the charge circle to the free throw line including post shots. Like JaoSming said, layups are on the move.
