Cleaning your controller/Button sticking

So what's y'all's experience on this? Ever do it, is it worth it to do regularly?

I dont care about looks or appearances of my controller (im the only one that uses the damn thing) but my a button is sticking like a motherfucker.

havent had an issue with this, my issues are with the little knobs on the analog sticks wearing out

Unplug the battery from the controller. Get a q-tip and dip it in warm water and rub it around the perimeter of the button. Then just keep tapping the button untill it loosens. Repeat this step again, and it should sort your problem.

I had the old logitech dual action that had a problem with the analog controller(s). It was not a physical problem, it was a problem with the sensor and there was a video about disassembling it and cleaning it on youtube. I couldn't find any rubbing alcohol, so I just scraped the little part with the screwdriver and it was as good as new.

Not regularly, only when it is absolutely needed like in your case of button sticking.

I agree with Pdub, open that shite. Just be careful in opening it as not to break anything, especially that part where the sticks are connected or pull/break any wires

Use a soft or medium eraser to clean the 'rubber' (left side of the pic, those black 'dots' in those gray things)


Also use an eraser to clean the 'board' or whatever the hell its called. (those black areas in that green thing where the buttons are aligned)



Make sure you leave no dirt/eraser bits. A good blow hopefully removes it (like how some people blow the slot on those NES/SNES catridges) or use spray cans like Pdub suggested, though I think that is a bit of an overkill or not cost effective. Why buy blow when you can do it yourself?
Unless you're like Sylvester the Cat, then a spray can is really a must.
A swab with alcohol can also be used to remove dirt if it's really sticking. Just be sure any area you applied to is dry before assembling back the controller.

Do note that I have never opened a 360 controller nor had the need to open the one I have because it's still working fine.
I'm giving my unsolicited advice based on my past experiences with older consoles like NES (Famicom), Genesis (Megadrive), SNES, PS1/PS2, and PC controllers.
Considering my personal record of breaking/abusing controllers, I think the 360 controller is one of the decent things Microsoft has done correctly.

The little plastic under my a button is ripped and not bouncing back like its supposed to. Dont think theres anyway to fix that. Cleaned that shit up a bit and put the son of a bitch back together, a button seems to be fixed but may be a matter of time till it borks again. Might buy a second one and relegate this one to back up. Anybody familiar with the afterglow controllers?

I'm taking a wild guess that you can buy those plastics (those gray things in the first pic I posted) for the 360 controller. Though I think you have to buy it as a set for a whole controller and not separately like if you only need the ones for d-pad or face buttons.
I don't know if there's some available 360 ones, but for past controllers I had there were sellers for it. Cheap too, I think I had a whole bag for my Famicom (NES). If the plastic set costs more than 10% of a new controller, fuck it. Just buy a new one.
Google it or sumthin' if you're planning to find a seller of those plastics.

feel was fine but the buttons stick (ha) and the wii gestures dont translate well with it. just really finicky with Jam and Donkey Kong

So far mine feels better than my madcatz ever did...odd. Buttons more responsive. Still getting used to different alignment/feel to it though. Little pissed though: box showed it glows green. It glows blue. stupid false advertising.

that's funny cause we got ours because we thought it would be blue, but ended up green....returned it for a blue one

I've pulled apart the PS3 controller a couple times or so. Not hard at all to put together except the R1/R2/L1/L2 are kinda annoying.

Again pull it apart, clean the rubber things under the dpad and face buttons, and I cleaned each individual button as well, I don't think that usually makes much difference though.

In the old controllers, the so called sixaxis ones, I used to have really horrible sticks due to FPS. They used to wander off the side slightly on their own, so I pulled them apart, but I wasn't able to do anything about it. Since I've boughten a couple Dualshock 3's though I haven't had any problems other than the small odd spill that leads to a sticky button.
